  1. This is what is wrong with recruiting kids outside of Indiana. Not enough homegrown favorites like corn on their plates! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  2. ... How is that data incorrect? It's three years outdated, which I mentioned when I said, "this is 5 year data from 2013..." You're now talking budget within the state, yet it was demonstrated to you earlier that Indiana isn't losing out on it's in-state targets to in-state schools; the real threats are from outside the state. It's very difficult to have a logical conversation when you constantly try to change the premise of your original argument. Apologies for interrupting your busy schedule with facts. Like I said though, that Google search took me ten seconds, which I did between meetings :)
  3. Fun side note from that article, we spent $0.68 on basketball recruiting for every $1 spent on football recruiting.
  4. Yeah agreed. I didn't dig too deep to find more recent numbers as the newspaper that acquired them had to go through public records requests, but seeing Kansas and Louisville up top aligns with what I expected. I'd also assume as much as our recruiting budget has grown, theirs have grown proportionally.
  5. Probably an incorrect assumption, based on this 5-year data from 2013, but nice try! http://db.desmoinesregister.com/college-basketball-recruiting Fact checking is incredibly easy if you can spare 10 extra seconds and access Google :)
  6. Get that for sure, and it's good you can admit that. I think, as you've pointed out, pride almost always is a negative and blinding force. Better to keep it out of recruiting, in my opinion. As a fan base, we over-analyze recruiting, probably because there's nothing else to talk about when recruiting is peaking. End of the day, our main concern should be how we perform with the pieces we have, and not where those pieces came from. Another B1G Championship, and at least another Sweet Sixteen will only enforce that our recruiting is not a problem. Some may point to Duke and UK, but as others have said, the intentions of the players those teams are recruiting don't align with what our staff values in a player. Hence, like it or not, an player like Langford, despite being an extreme talent and in-state, probably won't end up at Indiana. I personally don't see that as a problem, as long as we're competing with a different strategy.
  7. I think the IU staff NEEEDS to recruit the right players for our program, as they seem to have done well with the last two recruiting classes. I will never understand the burning desire to focus so much time and money on a narrow batch of players when we can find the right players from anywhere around the country. If the right player is in-state, go after them hard! If we win, that's great for everyone; hometown kid playing for the Hoosiers! If we lose, oh well, good thing we're recruiting all around the country as well. We have to invest in relationships in other areas of the country as much as we do in-state to hedge against years when local talent may be down, or when the players don't fit our needs. The benefit of having strong local talent consistently developed in Indiana is that when we perform at a consistently high level, it is more likely that the recruit is already an IU lean.
  8. Yeah I was pretty annoyed seeing such blatant and ignorant opinions based on race. 99.9% of individuals on here are mature enough to not post that kind of thing.
  9. You're a ******* idiot, and since this site isn't managed anymore, shut the **** up.
  10. Yeah, and his point still stands. You need tune up games against some inferior competition.
  11. Finally something we agree on [emoji846]
  12. We're gonna have to be gritty underdogs to win some games, and I love his attitude. It's not as important as having a technically sound QB, but that attitude shouldn't be underrated.
  13. Can't do much except perform as a program. these kids don't care as much about that. They want to play NOW and want the NBA.
  14. Mostly. I can still see posts when someone quotes them :(
  15. PSA: The mute button works still
  16. The kid is clearly a scorer who just hasn't been told to stay inside the arc. Not worried about that once our staff gets a hold of him. The comparison to Stanford Robinson was made above in a negative light, but Stan looked extremely promising his freshman year. Between Sheehey telling him to shoot with his opposite hand and his character issues, I don't think we saw his potential. If Al plays with a similar style, bulldog who can get to the rim and finish through contact, I'm pretty excited to see him coupled with our shooters in 2017.
  17. Nah, he'll just learn to tune out the ignorant and hateful people. It's what adults do.
  18. His shot mechanics on his 3 greatly improved from freshman to sophomore year. As someone else said, his shot selection was poor this past season, but it's possible that his desire to impress NBA scouts led him to take more of these bad shots. He's a respectable 3 point shooter, shot over 36% his final two years in college. Don't really get the hate. Saying he has zero NBA skill is pretty harsh. A lot of hate directed towards him because of his mother, but the kid made a decision that he thought was best for himself and the people he cares about. No need to rip on him. Sort of a bitter-ex move to continue to do so...
  19. McCarthy's kid was attending Crean's basketball camp
  20. Bilas went too far though. Said players should be able to go back if they don't like their draft position. I cannot disagree more. Let them go back if they go undrafted, but the players do have to own some of the risk.
  21. To say Victor is average player based on his performance in Orlando thus far is incredibly ignorant. He was playing WAY too many minutes, had to be the primary ball handler too often, and had very little consistency in his coaching staff and supporting cast. In OKC, regardless of whether Durant stays, we will see him play a much more defensively focused role, with much less of a need for him to contribute offensively given Westbrook's dominance and the presence of two or three better scoring options.
  22. Former UK guard Charles Matthews headed to Michigan
