Stevens clarified in an interview with Dan Patrick that he actually loved recruiting. Not sure where that rumor came up from but it's false.

Prediction League (Game 23 - Penn State 2/1/17)

PSU- 76 IU- 68 -
Arguing semantics at this point. You view the terms "blueblood" and "elite" as mutually exclusive... I see a difference in the 2. No big deal. We are on the same side. We both agree that Indiana is in dire need of a capable coach. All the infrastructure is in place to be elite again. Go get a coach.
-
We will continue to be a blue blood. There is a difference between being a traditional blueblood program and a program who is currently competing at an elite level. We are a blueblood bc of our history and our resources.
-
I disagree for the simple fact that all that's needed to be considered a blue blood once again is a great coach. We've been set back decades due to Knight, the admin, and Sampson. As bad as things seem now, we are in a MUCH better state than when the last 3 coaches were hired. It's not even close really. I'm in the camp that thinks our next coach is going to be a big splash. Maybe that's being overly optimistic...I'm really trying to be objective and measure the climate around our program. The case of "no coach is going to want to come in with the pressure of our fanbase" is nonsense to me and we have plenty of cases which prove that to be incorrect. We now have a completely updated Assembly Hall, a state of the art practice facility in cook hall, B1G money pouring in to pay what we've not been willing to in years past, and no dark clouds hovering over the program. Crean needs to go but he needs to be sent off showered in praise and thanks. He's not the guy but he got us back to the point where we are a destination job once again. My opinion of course.........Bold Prediction: Fred Hoiberg to Illinois and Billy Donovan to Indiana.

I can't think of a single player who I've so desperately wanted to succeed at the next level, than Yogi Ferrell. My all time favorite and maybe the most unappreciated Hoosier of all time. I remember wanting to pull my hair out when people criticized him. We are finding out this season just how good/valuable he was. Best of luck Yog's. We miss ya! :(

Can we please stop mentioning Steve Alford as an option. That would be an awful hire. Alford is terrible and has no business coaching a blueblood program.
-
I don't think he's getting another year but I'm usually wrong.
-
Of course he does.
-
I've said this same exact thing. If my kid had the opportunity to play where he wanted, I'd likely encourage him to play elsewhere. The ONLY reason Indiana would be an option under Crean, is the fact that I love IU. There are so many better options.

Fred Glass accepts mediocre basketball
HoosierTrav replied to Magnanimous's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It set in with me 2 years ago. Last season ended up being a pleasant surprise but Crean has dug himself such a deep hole with the fanbase. He can't fool us anymore with the ra ra speeches and the occasional competitive season. He would need to make a final four (or better) and show that his teams don't have much of a drop off the following seasons. We have seen exactly what we have with Crean. Hopefully this basketball program means as much to the admins as it does us fans. -
Oh my
-
We are close.
-
This is correct and exactly what's going to happen with Crean when the time comes. He will not be "fired".
-
Buyout won't be an issue at all.
-
Bc he got 9 in the first place.
-
Agree completely. Let's watch him accomplish something other than a few good regular season wins. We have that already. I do think Holtman is light years ahead of Crean, in terms of in game coaching.

The Optimist's Shorter Rotation Theory
HoosierTrav replied to Beachfront Property's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
My opinion? We are getting awfully optimistic about beating one of Tom Izzo's worst teams, at Assembly Hall. -
I hate when people ask this. How can anyone answer this? Take a risk..Make the job available...Target your candidates...Gauge interest...Use all of your resources to get them...Don't take no for an answer.... We aren't going to know who we can really get until the job is available. Fire Crean and take a swing. Can't hit a homerun if you don't step to the plate. Crean, as much as he isn't the right fit, really made this job a premiere job once again. We will have plenty of options once the job is available. Just don't expect to know before Crean is fired. I'm actually in the camp that believes Crean leaves Indiana on mutual terms, rather than being fired. We can avoid a ton of negative press this way as well.
-
We know what we have with Crean. I can live with us taking a shot at someone new and it not working out. But we can't let the fear of failing to hire a winner, keep us stuck in mediocrity. He made millions and was given a ridiculous amount of time to get us a final four. Time to let someone else give it a go.
