Agree and think we need more guards as well
-
Also, Our NIL is great except when it isn’t.
-
I think we need more ball handlers than wings. Don’t like when the staff misses their target but now that their plan did not work they can work on mine. Last year we had 2 pg’s and when X went down we saw that was not enough. desperately need better 3 pt shooting as well. I suppose a wing could have done that prefer we focus on ball handling and shooting guard. I will even let the staff say this was their plan all along.

I have no reason to believe it is reference to any specific recruit but wonder why you think it would be little 5 related? I have not been back for a little 5 in years. I know it drew a lot of IU crowds and some of my Purdue friends came down one year but does it draw a lot of non IU or bloomington people?

Could be that the college coach is thinking the stuff from earlier is the fresh news

Barnes has really done well there and was a dark horse favorite of mine for the IU job a few years back. I wonder how the players there feel about Barnes and if the involvment of TJD and Jalen in the visit here will help convince them this is the better place. If they have 4 who could come back but are not sure it would seem that having guys like TJD and Race come back last year when most thought they were gone would be a nice boost for us

I used to think so but when you factor in unofficial visits and game travel extra travel the idea of traveling just because it is free is probably not as interesting to kids as it might be to us. Your second point though about just going to Alabama out of respect makes sense. Especially if they built a relationship with him in his original recruiting or if some of the players know him. Lets hope it is less interesting when he gets there. -
We felt pretty good about Clowney before he went to Alabama. At least they did not have a great tournament run

Our facilities are nice but they are somewhat limited by having to work within Assembly Hall for the locker room and that space was limited since it is an older building. Cook Hall was excellent when built, and while still very nice others have newer or better training spaces. When Archie came he actually pushed to get some things upgraded because he felt we were far behind where we needed to be. Not recruiting related but I know the corporate entertainment area is considerably lacking. They did get a bigger room recently but a few years back when we would take clients to a game we could stop by this room for adult beverages and snacks but it was so crowded it was something we often skipped. These sponsers bring in a lot of $ for the program. I will say that the 76 suite is really nice and the upgrades to Assembly Hall with the statues and more open feel in the lobbies are excellent for an older building. Basketball is not alone. I visited a lot of D2 and NAIA soccer programs over the last few years and many had nicer soccer facilities than our 8 time national champion program has. -
Does this apply more to HS kids or portal or both?
-
I know this is portal talk but player development is key to our roster as well. I have watched IU since the late 70's and have enjoyed seeing players get better the more they stay. Not just better because they are older but some players make more noticeable jumps. Felt Trey's shooting improved a ton for this year and I thought TJD became an incredible 3/4 other than the lack of shooting. I can see some athletic potential in guys like Gunn and Banks and hope they make a big jump this summer. If they do, then they are a bigger add than some of the portal guys but if they just marginally improve or stay the same then we need some instant portal starters. As I look at the team, I wonder who will be our #1 guy to go to when we need clutch buckets. If that is going to be Malik or even X both need to improve a lot this offseason. I see a lot of guys who can be pieces, even starters, of a good team but replacing TJD, JHS as our top players will require special players if we want to continue as a top 20 team.

(2023) - SG Jakai Newton to INDIANA
8bucks replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Now that our focus is on next year, what should we expect from Newton? -
What happened here?
-
I also wonder how the guys we are after transform the roster such that Woody can coach 4 out 1 in as he has said he prefers.

Did he sit enough for a red shirt
