Big Ten Tourney Non-Indiana Game Thread
HoosierAloha replied to MartintheMopMan's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Nebraskaball just had a 5 minute possession where they missed 37 shots but got 36 offensive rebounds. Good job Rutgers! -
And honestly NC State beating Duke in the ACC tourney? Not likely.

Implementing IU's defense at Cameron earlier in the season.

Creaning or something. I dont' know.
HoosierAloha replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I don't wish for any player to be "Creaned" but if he decides to go elsewhere to play or needs more time for the ladies I'm cool with that. -
I can see a "worst case" scenario where IU beats the lowest seeds possible and struggles to get a 2 seed. That would include others in front of IU holding serve in their respective tourneys. It would be extremely difficult to keep the B1G regular season and tourney champ off the 2 line though.

(2016) SG Grant Gelon commits to IU

So shouldn't we continue saying this so Grant turns out to be a huge surprise and a contributor like the others...? :scratchhead: -
Predictions for Big Ten and NCAA tournaments
HoosierAloha replied to Bittersince87's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm not sold on pu being able to beat IU. They struggle against good guards and athletic wings. They shoot poorly away from wacky arena. Against the top half B1G teams pu had to have other worldly performances from a decent player or two just to get the win. Davis went off against MSU, 6-8 from 3, to beat MSU in OT by 1. Mathias had an excellent shooting game to get by Maryland. Thompson (6-8 from 3), Edwards (3-5 from 3), and Swan (shooting Nigel Hayes number of FTs) to beat Wiscy. Also, if you press them and keep them from getting open looks from three you can beat them. I truly believed IU took their foot off the gas towards the end of the game at Assembly Hall and it almost cost us. I don't see that happening in a rematch in Indy and could actually see IU winning by double digits. Although pu will definitely be bringing their "A" game to get a shot at big brother. -
Troy has been better but he's still not anywhere close to where he needs to be. In the Maryland game he had two boneheaded turnovers that lead to 4 points (inches away from 5 points) for Maryland. He also continues to be out of control on his drives and throws the ball towards the rim. He has all the ability in the world to be a great finisher. You can the majority of the time if Troy will make a layup when he leaves the ground. When he makes he is squared to the basket but more often than not he just jumps and lets the ball go. Also, he still tends to have 3-5 defensive plays where he leaves the rest of the playing 4-5 because he is terribly out of position or just plain guarding air out behind the three point line. Games in March against good coaches teams will look to attack Troy. He has been better but still has multiple WTH Troy possessions in each game.

Prediction League (B1G Tournament)
HoosierAloha replied to HoosierAloha's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I guess I should have asked if either team could keep it within 10 points. This should be better for Thur-Sat games. -
It frustrates me to watch as Troy is completely out of position on defense or just kind of stops when he comes to a screen. I can't remember what game it was but OG and JMor showed a thousand times better understand as soon as they came in. Troy had just left his man wide open for three and turned it over on the other end then got yanked. The next defensive possession JMor got caught in a moving screen (must have been Iowa) but OG switched and got out to the shooter to prevent an open look. It amazes me the level of defense OG and JMor bring to the team off the bench.

In conference, if we could have won either the game @Wiscy or the game @PSU we would be a lock for a 3 seed. If we could have avoided both losses against terrible teams in Maui we would easily be a 3 seed without an outside shot at a 1 seed depending on how we play in the BTT. Those losses really killed our resume but seemed to have made this team better.
-
The BTT starts tomorrow at BLF. Vote for who wins these first round matchups. (if the poll actuall works) Who do you have winning the first round games and why? 13. Minnesota vs. 12. Illinois 14. Rutgers vs. 11. Nebraska I'll try to do one for each round of the BTT and see how well we do overall as a site.

Nick has been bringing it on defense lately. There will be plays he just can't make because of the lack of elite athleticism but man he works his butt off. I'm still confused by who Troy is guarding at times. There were several times he ran out past the arc to defend.... an area? with nobody there. I really hope he continues to guard ball handlers rather than shooters. He loses focus quickly and isn't able to get through off ball screens.

Yes, he was there.

Did they have anything on basketball? I'm guessing they have about a 10:1 spring ball to basketball post count over there. -

IU up to #9 (#4 adjO, #66 adjD) in KenPom, #19 in RPI, #10 in both polls, and the last 3 seed in the bracket matrix. Keep moving up!

There are potentially really great matchups in the third round; Iowa vs. pu and UW vs. Maryland. Then IU vs pu and UW vs. MSU in the semi-finals!!

Injury Updates- JW/ROJO/CH/OG
HoosierAloha replied to hoosierpap's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Ummm, boob? I would play him enough to get him in a bit of a flow in the first half and then go from there.
