It has little to do with the top end. There won't be many B1G teams that will play top teams like that. It's the bottom end. If there are a few more games in the 100-200 range, a few in the 201-300, and none in the 300+ range that's a top 20ish OOC SOS. Adding 2 more games against top 25ish teams will only do so much for you when you have 7, SEVEN games against 273+ teams. That's laughable! Are we preparing to play teams like Rutgers and Minnesota by these terrible noncon opponents? I guess it's just padding stats so when we go into conference play with an OOC SOS in the 8+ averaging 90 points a game with an average margin of victory of +25 it'll look good.
-
Not sure where to put this so I'll just post it here. UL just received another commit, this one from the #14 PG in 2017. They now have the #3 center (#32 overall) in Malik Williams and the #14 point guard (65 overall) in Darius Miller. It's quite obvious recruits couldn't careless that UL might have more San ruins it the new BOT might give Slick Rick more time to watch his son coach.

Really disappointed in the bottom of this schedule. The good: 3 teams in top 10 The bad: 7 teams in KenPom 273+ The ugly: 5 teams in KenPom 300+, 3 at 340+ Hopefully, that was just down years and some of those teams rise. If they don't we'll have a terrible OOC SOS again

There was an article about recruiting talent out of Europe. It was largely controlled by who took their foreign trips to Europe and used a certain tour company. It was remarkable how well certain schools recruited Europe after taking a trip with that company. I'll try to find the article. It's not really elite talent but I'm sure certain things are happening in the US as well. Edit: as promised http://www.si.com/college-basketball/2016/03/09/foreign-tours-recruiting-canarias-academy-minnesota-seton-hall#_

I believe it was an interview after the Derby City all star game that DD said he was told to work on his corner and trail threes. At that time, I felt like we could see DD and TB on the court together. I don't discount DD's abilities but I'm just going the cautiously optimistic approach to frosh outside the top 20ish. On a similar note, I've heard from several people that CuJo could be an absolute steal in this class and could be a lethal scorer off the bench. If both those guys click with all returnees having great seasons we will go 9 deep. That's also not counting McSwain or Green but I'm expecting only solid mop up minutes from them.
-
Cautiously optimistic is where I am. There are still plenty of questions. How does JBJ, and others to a lesser extent, return from their injuries? How do the frosh perform and where do they fit in, ditto for McSwain and Newkirk? I can see it going anywhere from 7-10, without losing much.
-
It is shaping up to be but that's something for later. The 2012-2013 season was supposed to go at least 10 deep but with Patterson not making it to the fall semester, Hollowell, HMP, PJ not panning out, and Creek not coming back at full strength it never materialized.
-
Unfortunately, that's probably what will happen if everyone stays healthy. Part of the reason it was successful early last season is Yogi and JBJ weren't interested in playing defense. Another part was TB unable to defend at a high level early his freshman year. If we have the bigger wings (Hartman, OG, JMor, McSwain, and DD) I'd like to see more of them and have RoJo, JBJ, JN, and CuJo split time at the guard spots. If Green and CuJo are all world frosh than I wouldn't mind seeing more of the three guard lineup. However, like you I'm sure we'll see a little bit of both whether we like it or not.
-
It's nitpicking but I see JMo as more of a 4 than 3. OG will probably get the nod to defend the 4 unless the opponents 3 is extremely quick and Hartman cannot stay with them. I see JMo coming in and OG sliding down to the 3. I have no idea where or what McSwain will be or do. I believe DD has the ability to play a 4 against a bigger front if we decide to go that route. I like the flexibility of our front court this season. I would love to see Bryant and DD moving away from the lane against bigger teams like pu and Wiscy. I really think we'll have the opportunity to beat some teams by inverting with bigger guards and "bigs" who can shoot from outside.

Starting a new topic so we don't place needless information in Romeo's recruiting thread. The confusion is, how are programs like UW, UCLA, and NC State landing crazy recruiting classes and elite recruit when they're currently programs are meh at best. UCLA: I get UCLA's history and they're competing with Arizona and Cal for the elite recruits on the west coast. However, Alford has done what in his tenure as a coach? Stood up for a terrible individual because he played for him. He made a few Sweet 16s and won in a mid-major conference in the regular season. None of that screams the ability to land elite recruits or top end recruiting classes. UW: I get that they landed Porter because of his father. How did they land Markelle Fultz, Nigel Williams-Goss, and a few others from across the country to a program that is terrible? It baffles me how they good to great players when they haven't done anything as a program. NC State: Is the definition of WTH recruiting. They've been to a Sweet 16 or two under Gottfriend yet they continue to recruit out of this world. Year Recruiting (Individual) Results 2016 #4 (7, 25, 56,58, 199) N/A 2015 #61 (40, 176) 16-17 (ACC - 13) (No postseason) 2014 #18 (44, 60, 71) 22-14 (ACC - T6) (Sweet 16) 2013 #10 (25, 67, 82, 289, JC 10) 22-14 (ACC - T7) (2nd Round) 2012 #11 (14, 23, 47) 24-11 (ACC - T4) (1st Round) It doesn't make send how they're pulling top 10ish or top 20 classes without doing anything. They've made one Sweet 16 under Gottfried and haven't won or got close to winning the ACC yet he's pulling top 25 recruits. This makes absolutely no sense to me. I'm not arguing about going up against the likes of puke or Duke. They've done well and paid well. I think we can challenge the likes of MSU, UNC, and UL for recruits even though they've gone further in the tourney we've had some regular season success. We're also close to some of those recruits. I get that recruiting is a really messy game and that kids have a mind of their own. What I don't get is how some of these programs are getting top recruits without connections and previous success. It smells fishy...

If we're struggling in the half court with that lineup something is wrong. JMo or OG should have a huge mismatch in the post. If Bryant has continued to work on his outside shot we can somewhat invert the offense. I expect JMo and OG to go from the do it all garbage men to being relied on a little more. If RoJo can get lost among Bryant, OG, and JBJ he can get his.

It seems like it is extremely early unless he just wants to narrow it done now so he could take OVs in the spring and be done with it? -
Brunch and brinner are the two best meals of the day!!

I'm not sold on the three guard lineup that much for several reasons 1) this is the deepest most versatile front court Crean has had at IU 2) we have three guards coming off injuries, two that cost them a season 3) the three guard lineup was horrendous to start last season I'm good with running it for s few minutes here and there if we need to but I can't see us going long periods running three guards.

Scribner is one of three middle schools in Floyd County, Indiana. It's across the Ohio from Louisville. That team had Lamont Roland, Ladrell Whitehead, and Chad Hunter. They all could have been HM if not for grades and other off the court issues. I saw Michael Lewis drop 45 or so on them at New Albany. It was one hell of a performance but NA got the win. -

A lot of business decisions will be made while Natee is running. I'd imagine we'll see quite a few whiffed tackles at the legs. -
