IU Basketball: Who is leaving? Who is staying?
hoosierpap replied to IndyHutch's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Given the current structure and NBA rules, it isn't beneficial at all for certain players to even come close to getting a degree. The kids didn't make the rules, the adults did. -

IU Basketball: Who is leaving? Who is staying?

I know a few teams have Bryant as a first round grade. That's all I've heard. I would expect that he hasn't made the decision yet because he doesn't have all the information, but that's an assumption. One thing to keep in mind is the NBA is looking at age, not class year. TB is young. His birthday is 7/31/97, 18 years old. De'ron Davis, for comparison is 19 years old, born 11/20/96. The argument can be made that staying in college doesn't help you develop more than having a full time, NBA staff working with you - and I tend to agree with that. There are certainly cases where staying in college helps develop players, and fringe players should almost always go that route, imo. TB needs to look at where he is projected, what his direct feedback from NBA teams are with regards to where they are picking, and go from there. He needs to look at the payscale and if he is comfortable with that and team fit, go. If not, come back and work his way up the draft boards. Smart decisions can be made but there is risk involved regardless. -
I've been talking about Phil Booth for years. Literally. Anyways, swat arrived w about a min and a half to go. Should be a good night in town

(2018) PG Darius Garland to Vandy
hoosierpap replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I agree with what Wayne said. But, also, that's going to be something he looks at. No one told me that or anything, but recruits examine their PT situation. The thing is all those guys are combo guards, at best. Al and Cujo played point this year in HS which is nice, and esp. Al seems to be trending that way moreso than the other two, but he is still not a natural point. Garland is and I would think would get his crack at PG with the others rotating around him. Now, add a soph. Scruggs and things get a little messy for Garland. -

2016 (F) Freddie McSwain Jr. to IU
hoosierpap replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Sorry, I have been all over the place lately. I think he has some similarities. I know Creans system cans sorta muddy up the 3/4 spot but evaluating a player coming in I believe it's still applicable. I think McSwain is more of a 4 shaping into a 3. Where TW was coming to play the wing at Indiana and you've seen him bring the ball up the floor in meaningful minutes. I don't think McSwain is there or will be but Crean does like to develop that so who knows what IU fans could see. He probably shoots similar TW his first two years- which is not very good. The shot is a concern. Athletically, he seems to be off the charts. It doesn't take a pro scout to see a few videos and come to the conclusion that he is soaring above everyone on those alley oops. Looks to have elite athleticism for the HM level. Troy certainly has that. Seems to be a good rebounder with 9 a game but have to wonder how much of that is playing against inferior athletes. Trying to imagine what Troy could have averaged at that level. Hard to project, I guess you just judge on what you have. I don't know much about his defense. No one seems to be talking about it which is worrisome. He had a couple cool blocks but that doesn't do much for me. As it relates to Troy, can't be a ton worse?? -
