  1. Miami is a really good team. The freshman Henderson is fantastic. This is a great game.
  2. Colby Garland, 6’1” pg from San Jose St is in the portal. Played for Devries at Drake; 3rd team Mountain West last year. Kinda stocky lefty. Excellent numbers last season- rebounds well and gets to the FT line a ton, so I assume he’s a physical player. Very well could be a thing—wouldn’t think he’d be an especially expensive pickup.
  3. And he’s still really really good. Amazing to me how he sounds basically like the same guy as he did twenty years ago.
  4. Are you proposing a secluded meal that includes Stephen Spielberg, Zendaya, Margot Robbie, Ben Affleck, and MICK CRONIN? i am so down with that.
  5. Yes! Sub-optimal first few weeks that contributed to a meh first year. Doesn’t mean all is lost; means learn from it and do better.
  6. Your post is a recitation of non-specific catchphrases. Every situation is different and the details of each situation are absolutely relevant. Will Devries succeed? I don’t know. But I do know it’s too soon to tell, that Devries hasn’t whined at all, and that “breaking down a door” sounds like a slogan, not a way for a coaching staff to establish a consistently winning program.
  7. Another way of looking at it: Only one of the last three coaches that has moved up from Utah State has succeeded.
  8. On the other hand, McCollum is yucky and his style of play is poopy.
  9. Watching another kinda unwatchable game: UCLA v UCF. One nice realization for me from this game? Steve Lappas is a great listen as the color commentator. New York salty and smart.
  10. It will be delicious.
  11. If basketball was usually like Iowa versus Clemson, I would never watch basketball.
  12. Would love a broiled Pork Chop.
  13. Now I will never find out what there were 61 of.
  14. Gimme an H! Gimme an OFSTRA! What's that spell?!!?
  15. Graves with a Santa Clara desperation three for the lead and Oweh with a 35 footer at the buzzer to send it to overtime. Hot damn what a game.
  16. And JUSTLIKETHAT Kentucky pulls ahead by seven midway through the second half... ... ... ... only to then give up a scoring run. Santa Clara by four at the under eight timeout.
  17. Crean wasn't mediocre; he was consistently inconsistent. Solid peaks and real valleys. And he wore out his welcome after nine years. For sure, he was better than the two coaches that followed, but that doesn't mean he should have stayed after nine years. I'm a fan of the previously stated strategy of giving each coach a fair chance to be the decades-long great coach, and when that is clearly proven to not be the case? Try, try again.
  18. Hot seat and he'll be back next year = terrible situation. Feels like next year he will have some well paid mercenaries that won't gel and will beg off with some vague injury early. Or, they can win today and go on a run. But the former is far more likely.
  19. Keeensucky down two to Santa Clara at the half. UK with major size and athleticism advantages... shoots 15 three balls in the first half ... makes four of them. And makes one free throw in the first halfThey look confused and sleepy. I will now show a graphic depicting Kentucky's currently signed freshman recruiting class for next season:
  20. Those VCU guards played like they had rocket jets coming out of their a$$es. Super-fun to watch.
  21. His recruiting profile picture on 247 screams "My agent just informed me that I'm going to be in West Lafayette for four years:"
  22. Yes - culture can be built quickly. But building that culture does not necessarily immediately show in the won/loss column. I am certain that Todd CreeperGolden and Danny AngryHurley started building a winning basketball culture immediately, but it took a few years for the fruits of that culture to be evident. Of course, many other coaches that weren't immediately great in the won/loss column were ... just not great. We will have portal transfers, and we will see them as soon as the portal opens. Those portal transfers are a two-way street; they can be dissatisfied player-originated or they can be 'staff dumping bad culture players' oriented. For me Trent Sisley is a bit of the IUBB canary in the coalmine; if he stays even after receiving minimal late season playing time I am far more optimistic about the culture that CDD is establishing.
