Our OG discussion gave me this new thread idea -- rank the top 5 Hoosier NBA careers. ONE CAVEAT: They have to have suited up as Hoosier, so no citing Larry Bird or Guy-Marc Michel. I'll start: Zeke McGuiness OG Bellamy Dick Van Arsdale Honorable mention/second five: EJ, McGlocklin, VO, Woody, Tom Van Arsdale
-
After Zeke, OG may be on the verge of supassing McGinnis and Bellamy for the second greatest Hoosier NBA career ever.

Former Starks-era Knicks hater. I really like this Knicks team. OG Brunson Bridges, Hart, Towns. All good dudes that play with skill, overachieve, and don't whine. Easy set of players to root for.

That small sample size likely spurred RMK to be ahead of the curve when the 3pt line became a full time thing about five years later. Knight got some shooters and it was bombs away for Alford and Jay Edwards.
-
And in primo OG Anunoby style, he has been doing all of this while wearing his athletic shoe brand of choice: Skechers.

Wow. Just wow. For the Glory of...

So the fix is in for the nationally beloved Spurs against the boring, small market Knicks? ;]

Waiting for our referee conspiracy theorists to opine on pre-ordained referee bias, which clearly would favor the big city Knicks.

We identified Fernando Mendoza at $2 million-ish per as a severely undervalued player. This year? We are likely spending $2 million on Hoover and consider him undervalued compared to other available top tier QBs. In any event - we agree on much of this - seems like a semantic difference.

I'd define Moneyball as maximizing the roster given the money a team has. So the calculation of whether a kid like Sales is worth it is a contextual, opportunity cost calculation. It's along the lines of; Sales and a player like Nick Marsh eat up the same budget amount -- who should we pursue? Or, should we throw a million at a freshman like Sales and have a million less to throw at multiple $250k three/four star top 500 freshman. Last year we threw a giant bag at Fernando - turned into a fantastic moneyball play. We could have kept Tayven Jackson and spent more on other positions, but instead spent a lot on Fernando.
-
This is a classic Moneyball exercise for the staff. For each player that interests the staff, we have a large but not unlimited budget. Each player that we spend on, whether it's a developmental high school recruit, an elite high school recruit, or a portal player, comes at an opportunity cost of using that budget to pursue other players. The ultimate goal is to have a high sign rate on the players that we think are cost effective. And cost effective can include elite/expensive high school players.

I'm not sure how many top-of-the-top recruits Cig even wants. I think he's more likely to spend $500k on a player like Turbo Richard than a top 100 player in most instances. For us to spend on a top 100 recruit over a proven player, our staff is going to have to believe that player can start from day one.

A national program that may be willing to ante up the biggest bag of all for a top ten player has made him want to learn more? That tracks and I can see why he would want to learn about that option. This is the rare kid that can make $1 million as a freshman. Coaching, development, 'vibe', and proximity to home all matter, but that is with the caveat that the money has to be reasonably similar. Because any of these programs, including LSU, will get him drafted into the first few rounds at worst. I get it - he could wreck a knee without ever playing and then all he has is that one year bag. Three and four star kids don't have a one year bag that can set up a reasonable stable financial life forever; they are more likely to have a bag worth a couple hundred thousand. Subtract taxes and agent fees and that is not 'entire life' supporting money. But Sales' $1 million? That's about $600k net after taxes and agent fees, and that can make a long-term difference for a family even if things fall apart healthwise at age 19.

15 scholarships. If she's a fantastic athlete that isn't yet very good at basketball it's fine. If not? She's a one year recruit that doesn't play and then transfers out. -

Admittedly, that is far more functional than "Rice Nerd." -
I cordially invite you to the 1:25 mark of this video. Brendan Sorsby is Elmo! Confused? You’ll see:

College football P4 conferences considering a boycott? The ball is in your court: A Texas court scheduled Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby's trial against the NCAA for Feb. 8, 2027, two weeks after the College Football Playoff National Championship is scheduled to be played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The 99th District Court in Lubbock County, Texas, where Texas Tech is located, scheduled the trial Monday, the same day a judge granted Sorsby a temporary injunction that might clear him to play for the Red Raiders in 2026 even after the NCAA declared him ineligible for wagering on college sports. The NCAA has already appealed Judge Ken Curry's ruling to the Court of Appeals for the Seventh District of Texas in Amarillo. Each of the four justices in the Seventh District -- Chief Justice Judy Parker and Lawrence Doss, Alex Yarbrough and Laura Pratt -- are graduates of the Texas Tech School of Law, according to their online bios.

What say we lock up Emedobi and Lewis?

Calling it an addiction does not legally absolve anyone from consequences. Jeffrey Dahmer was addicted to murder and cannabalism. I'm calling it - Sorsby doesn't play college football ever again. There seems to be a unified tsunami that will overwhelm the legal authority that would technically allow him to play.

OG with a BIG first half in game 3.
