  I could see if Mallory is kept on, which I'm record as saying I think will happen, that the "logic" behind it is that we were still too young and lacking talent to be better and that more talent and more experience will fix our problems.  We had all better hope and pray that is accurate because I believe that is the path we are heading down.     I want Mallory gone too, but I'm starting to gear my thoughts regarding him toward, "let's hope he can figure this out," as opposed to "let's hope he gets fired," because I just don't see that happening.

Well a friend of mine close to the program told me that CKW was kind of forcing Mallory to play younger guys that weren't ready to play yet in hopes of developing them, so maybe that could be a reason CKW doesn't want to fire him? 

Everyone needs to relax. Mallory will be gone. 119th out of 120th defensively in BCS? Not staying. Especially when Lynch's teams were better in that category & that's why he was canned. Every recruit that DM has visited has been in conjunction with CKW. You probably forget about the DC when the HC is the other guy across the table. I'm sure CKW has someone in mind, but they're probably in a bowl and won't be contacted til after the bowl game. They will most likely bring in a DC with head coach & DC experience and maybe with recruiting ties in a new area of focus (ie: east coast). That would seem ideal with Rutgers & Maryland coming in, but still a maybe. As far as a demotion to safeties coach, I don't know if that's feasible. Pay cut and I dont think the new DC will want him around. We have very good asst def coaches and that worries me more. I don't want to see a cleaning of house and starting with an entire new staff or even partial new staff. All are well spoken and bring the right kind of recruit to the table. If one of them gets an offer for a better opportunity, then so be it. My guess is that we start to hear some chatter for new DC candidates after this recruiting period is over (20th?). nds... I'm with the group that would like to see Mallory go, but if it hasn't happened by now I can't imagine that it will.   I think there is a bigger question here for those who would want to replace CKW now. Who would we get to replace him? What coach in his right mind would look at our situation - one of the worst programs in a BCS conference, improvements in the w/l record every year, and fired after 3 years, not to mention all of our other disadvantages as a program - and say that he wants to take a shot here?    Regardless, CKW is definitely getting at least one more year. And while I agree that his decision to retain Mallory may end up leading to his dismissal, getting rid of him now is a bad idea. I would go so far as to say the one thing I'm most sure of right now with IU football is that showing a lack of patience with a CKW and firing him now will not make us a bowl team any faster.

Well Charlie, maybe you need to back that up with some facts as to why Wilson should go. My reasons he should stay would be that he is a offensive genius, he attracts high quality assistants, and he is attracting a higher level of recruit then any coach since Bill Mallory. Another reason would be, until its obvious that CKW is not the man for the job, jumping back on that 3 year coaching carousel would be another step backwards. On the downside, CKW is a offensive coordinator that is learning to be a head coach. Whether that will be a successful transition, still a bit hard to tell, but I see no reason to jump in and change head coaches again. So if you have any solid reasons for his dismissal, throw them out there.

  I have been and for the moment still am a big supporter of CKW.  I do believe Mallory has to go.  Having said all of that, if CKW sticks with Mallory and doesn't try to improve things by making a move then he is staking his future as IU's coach on Mallory's ability to improve the defense.  If I were Fred Glass, I'd be making that point abundantly clear to him.  

I've literally been having nightmares at night about this (probably a sign that I take IU a little too seriously).  CC is right, Mallory has been on a recruiting trip with Wilson.  The only scenario I've been able to devise that makes any sense is that Mallory is going to be retained as safeties coach, but Wilson will bring in another DC.  Wilson could tell recruits as much which would ( A ) satisfy their concerns about the defensive numbers this year and ( B ) prevent losing ground with any recruits who Mallory had been working on.   Purely speculation.  Just trying to find someway to put my mind at rest because every day that passes increases the likelihood that Mallory will be back as DC next year.  Which is an absolutely disgrace.  Any DC, at any school, in any conference would be expected to be fired after fielding the worst defense in that conference's history.  Why that wouldn't hold true for Indiana...
