IU Wonka

Victor Oladipo- Hoosier's MVP Thus Far?

Recommended Posts

ESPN's Andy Katz just recently released a video in which he claims that he believes that Oladipo is IU's MVP up to this point in the season. (Video found here:http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/71576/katz-on-victor-oladipos-impact

Do you think Victor really is the team's MVP thus far? Is he (dare I say) the best player on this squad? Could he be a lottery pick in the NBA draft?

What are your thoughts?

Not only best player on IU through this point in the season, but also has to be a leader for DPOY and a candidate for 1st team All American.

I think he has definitely been the MVP of the season so far.  He has been light years ahead of everyone else.  His hustle alone puts him on another level.  I think with every made 3 point shot, Victor is one step closer to the lottery.  I agree with Andy Katz that if Victor can prove to NBA scouts that he can hit the long range shot, he's in the lottery.

I equate Victor's defense to THAT guy at the gym who has to guard you in pick up games.  You want to take it easy, but this guy is all over you.  That is Victor 100% of every game.

Yes, without a doubt. He has been our most consistant player every game because of his defense and his penetration.

If he can sustain his 3pt/mid range jumper for the remainder of the season, I definitely think he can be drafted in the top 20.

His shot will always get better because he's a hard worker and in the NBA, all you have to worry about is basketball.

Going to hate to see him leave.

So far, he's the team MVP...............

Needs to show that hungry attitude offensively the rest of the way in the Big Ten season..............and continue his defensive presence.

I already follow you!  But yes, I think Victor is the best player, but Will is the best looker... Just Saying :)

Before the season began, I said that if Victor could develop an actual mid-long range shot, he'd be the best player on the team and a future monster in the NBA. He's done just that. Compared to last year, Vic's raised his field goal percentage by 20 percent and his 3 point shooting by 25 percent. He's certainly been the MVP so far. I don't have any problem saying he's the best player on the team either. The guy defends, hustles, and now has an offensive game. NBA is written all over him. It'll be a sad day when he leaves.

I still remember the UNC game this year. I had behind the basket seats, and the group of guys behind me (all IU fans) booed when Vic would shoot an outside shot. I turned around during a timeout and asked why they were booing, and they said, and I quote, "Victor can't shoot the ball, he just can't do it. He needs to drive every time the ball touches his hands." I asked them if they ever watch shoot around when he will sink 3 after 3 after 3, and they said shoot around doesn't count, only games do. I personally think Vic heard them  :D

From an outcomes standpoint there is no doubt that VO has been the MVP and I hope he is able to translate this passion and energy into a long NBA career befire he heads into the business world.

We do need to remember though that he is able to do what he does offensively in part because defenses have to double down on Zeller and never stray far from Hulls, Cwat, Yogi or others.  This is a tough team to defend and someone will always be able to hurt you.  Defensively VO is IU's best no doubt, but Yogi is getting better every game and Remy is developing as well.

Crean and staff are doing an impressive job of developing players.

Cody Zeller is the MVP of the Hoosiers. Zeller is getting 16.6 ppg compared to Oladipo's 13.6 ppg. Zeller is also grabbing a team high 8.1 rpg. While Oladipo is avg 2.4 spg Zeller is getting 1.4 bpg. Oladipo is the energizer of the Hoosiers but Zeller is still the Leader. Some say he should be doing more, but the work he is doing is undervalued.

I'm baffled how scouts still have Oladipo as low as 28th in the first round.  If he keeps working as hard on his shot as he has everything else, and he will, he is easily a lottery pick.

I completely agree with this post.

Every game I hope Vic does just enough to help us win but not enough to become a high draft pick in hope of him staying one more year. But that's just wishful thinking

lol, I've looked at it like that before too.  But then I think about this...   VO wasn't a highly touted recruit, Coach Crean has molded him into a great player.  Recruits see this and probably think "I'm better than Oladipo was in high school, I wonder what Coach Crean could do with me?"  That my friend, equals new committment!

I haven't looked into quite that far. But I have noticed how well Crean has been able to develop players. I never would've thought Sheehey would be the player he is today. I'm looking forward seeing Perea growing into a dominant force. I do wish that Jurkin would have been red shirted though

Vic is the heart and soul of this team. His enthusiasm is contagious and his effort is unmatched. He makes defense fun to watch. Hope we get to enjoy his senior year cause I see him playing the next level and contributing somewhere. His game is ideally suited for the nba, can score off the dribble, athletic, and can defend several positions. Love watching him play. Agree with earlier post, give Crean a lot of credit here, he is not the same player that showed up on campus a couple years ago.

Vic is fun to watch for everyone - he is what hoosier fans value. He always did work hard and show enthusiasm, but now he has shown improvement to the point of being possibly the best player on the team. He has come thru in the clutch - Vic stirs the crowd, fills the stat sheet, and most importantly makes plays that win games.
