$11.5M/yr is a bit hard to believe. That would make Brad perhaps the highest paid exec in the NBA. Below are some links with what other execs make. All of them, including names like Pat Riley, are less than $11.5M/yr. https://frontofficesports.com/highest-paid-nba-general-managers/ https://www.sportskeeda.com/basketball/all-time-top-5-highest-paid-nba-gms-featuring-pat-riley-bob-myers Maybe Brad does make that much… it would just be surprising. He made $4M/yr when he was the coach and tripling that to be GM doesn’t really make sense.

Are you Ken Nunn? I had to ask ;-)

As of now each school gets to decide the allocations and it is still TBD. I assume the Title IX stuff won’t stick, unlikely half the rev share going to women’s sports when FB generates most of it. Something close to 70% for FB and 20% to MBB seems likely. Then layer on NIL on top of that. I doubt the NIL Clearinghouse slows down the NIL train — no way they veto big NIL deals big schools want to make and players want to take — both sides would go to court.

$6M I heard. What a return on investment.

If we got him I would be beyond excited. That said, a lot of our fans, me included, would be penciling in so many future banners I would worry about the jinxes!
-
Makes sense. And on this analogy, regardless of who we get, I want Scott digging deep so we trade on as much insider info as possible.

It's hard to figure out which coach will blow up and be awesome, and it can be risky, but that's what a great AD can do...
-
Reputation issues that come from having a coach with DV problems, among other issues like drinking. The risk that he does something again at UNC, which would embarrass the school and get their AD fired. He is just a tough guy to hire for big time programs.
-
Those people appear to be out of this hiring process.
-
It would be very surprising if UNC hired Beard. They will have the same issues IU does. UK looked at a lot of coaches last year and Beard’s name never really came up. The issues aren’t unique to IU.

Cignetti and the overall development of FB is enough evidence for me Scott can get this right.

This is what another poster (Eyedoc) linked to. It’s an example. https://x.com/lubbockist/status/1488482798377779203?s=46&t=zoBJGD5TXRBDk1ODyOZqlg I’ve already posted about him, not much left to argue about.
-
If we continue to hear pretty much no rumors over the next few weeks from Trilly, Thamel, etc., the higher the chance Scott already has his guy.
-
In the UK search it seemed like they couldn’t even get Oats to engage, he was a quick “no.” It will be tough, but he is worth our best shot if Brad passes.

NIL era is reducing an important Bill Self competitive advantage…

On this note, I’m optimistic we can get our athletics org chart fixed in the next few months. Scott has the long history at IU and he’s developing a track record that will allow him to fill the power vacuum when Quinn leaves. The next BoT Chair should be less interested in meddling with sports. The donors should be embarrassed and neutered after their Woody support, so they will pipe down. Pam should be supporting Scott and providing cover from bad outside influences. If the above happens things will be much healthier with Scott running the atheltic dept and therefore he can be held accountable for the teams’ results. Cig always references Scott and Pam and constantly thanks them. That’s who he interacts with and that is exactly how it should work. No trustees, donors, old mentors… these are all bad influences that should not be involved. I hope our next bball coach talks about Scott and Pam the same way Cig does. That would be some much welcomed stability after 25 years of people meddling with the bball program.

They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
Pagoda replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Upside of losing today is it keeps making Woody look terrible. I’m so sick of him. The more losses the worse he and his cronies look. -
When Dusty was asked about the IU job in the postgame conference he did not demonstrably deny interest and therefore he tacitly indicated he would take the job.
-
The media that covers IU is so soft. They should just ask, it’s a huge story. It’s another reason the IU job is great. No need to answer hard questions if you don’t want to. Gee what an intimidating “fish bowl.”
-
Search firm may also help with background checks, data on market compensation, and good old CYA to make sure we don’t miss anything.
-
Yea, hopefully Scott can figure it out. I say this a lot, but beyond Brad I have no idea who we should hire. I’ve never met these guys and interviewed them. I don’t know who translates to IU and who is Archie. There is so much I don’t know and never will get to. But, it’s fun to speculate and joke about the process as it plays out. It’s also pretty stressful… it’s a massive hire.

Like him or not, he is one of the best minds in basketball. He runs the Boston Celtics and is the NBA Exec of the Year. It’s not like he only knows NBA bball and can’t understand college bball. He has done the college thing and he was awesome at that too.
-
I would guess it’s both. If Brad doesn’t want the job, he is still a great source for thoughts on who would do well at IU. He is the GM of the current NBA Champions… he knows personnel decisions.
