Right? If all of the comments about Ferguson and Buckner picking Woodson are true, then it sounds like the boosters are running the program. Maybe we need to worry less about finding a salesman/politician/CEO and have Dolson/Whitten get control of the athletic department's boosters. Then maybe we can just worry about picking coaches who mostly just worry about coaching and recruiting with a little speech-making on the side. The political-work and *ss-kissing should be left to the AD and president.

Agreed. I think having his brother Sean successfully coaching at Arizona also caused some to like the Archie hire as well.

Nah. In some years, this might be a big, winning issue for the Gov. This year, not so much. I don't think most Indiana fans really give much of a sh*t about making or making the tournament this year. Let UNC go and get knocked out in the play-in game or the first round instead of us.

What this search has proven to everyone is that I have absolutely zero sources in the AD's office or on the IU BoT. I obviously need to find some new friends IRL in the next 4 years. LOL

I guess the biggest question at this point is one of three: 1. Does Dolson already have his man (and has for a while)? 2. Is he just putting the finishing touches on a deal in place and waiting for the end of that coach's season to announce? 3. Is he in scramble/panic mode?

I mean, what else is Dolson going to tell a big donor, other than "he would be happy?" I get what you're saying, though. That Dolson is still keeping things quiet...

Well, to be fair, we don't know this. I mean, it doesn't seem that Dolson threw "the kitchen sink" at a "bunch of big names" 4 years ago before IU hired Woody. Who knows what he's actually doing this time? I <hope> that he's as good as everybody seems to think he is. We will find out soon.

Occam's razor says this is the correct answer, of course. I think the naming of Woodson last time has people extra nervous. He was such a stupid hire that people are naturally a little gun-shy this time around...

And the problem is that Scott Dolson was hired as AD and has worked at IU for decades. I honestly had hoped that IU would hire someone to replace Glass who came from outside of the university. I know Glass was an external candidate, but he had no previous AD experience. I wanted Jurich or someone who had experience hiring good coaches. Instead, we have a guy who has years of experience in a department who has made so many bad decisions in the basketball program. Why would we expect any kind of better results. If he makes another bad choice, he's either incompetent or weak. Everyone lets him off the hook for Woodson, but why? It just shows that he was weak or thought it was a good idea. Either answer is bad. IU needed a strong AD candidate from outside. But, the IU admin would've viewed that as a threat, hence why they hired a guy who they see as a lapdog.

This is the issue. You're hearing from actual media people now about Brownell. Thamel before and now others. That is the troubling part.
