I may be in the minority here, but I’d love to see our starters and Leal back next year with a coach that demanded excellence from his players and had a plan and scheme to get that out of them. I think we have talent (minus a piece or two) but lack direction and vision.

I was just looking into this. Is there any way to know specifics like this in any coaches contract or are these kept under wraps?

@Chris007 would you say that your comment yesterday (of CMW getting another year to turn things around) is the general sentiment of what you’re hearing or what you’ve heard from someone closest to the person who’ll make a decision of that magnitude? Hope that makes sense. Gracias!

So, hypothetically— say CMW either a.) retires or b.) gets fired… how and when will we know? What will the tea leaves be? What will be the little tells or murmurs that we’ll look back on as indicators that things were going to change? What do you think?

And the defensive stats— “The Owls rank 330th in average height, per KenPom, but they’re 25th in defensive rebounding rate. The Owls also limit 3s and have the 14th-best two-point defense in college basketball.” I could root for him, for sure.

I can’t even begin to imagine what that would be like. He’s been successful, for the most part. But at the same time I don’t think he’s a good x’s&o’s coach. Can he keep up now that the NIL levels the playing field?

We can agree to disagree, for sure. Losing to St. Mary’s by 30 then turning around and losing to Miami by 16th next year is underwhelming to me. Couple that with being blown out at home by Purdue and Penn State (Penn State?!?!?!) as well as teams like Nebraska and Rutgers is not good enough for me. Not in year 3. Maybe if we were competitive I’d feel differently, or improving as they year progresses. But I don’t see that. We have a team that (by and large) is phoning it in and that is unacceptable to me and it’s on the coach.

I guess my thing is comparing one lousy coach (CMW) to another (CAM) is a recipe for continued mediocrity. Woody hasn’t earned another year (on or off the court), imho.

You are right though. Race will matter to some people, and other factors will be ignored. I just hope a coaches race doesn’t matter to those ultimately charged with making the team as successful as possible.

Hiring, firing, or keeping someone based off of their race is a symptom of a losing mentality imho.
