  1. That's my thought....unless it's a back-up plan.
  2. I'm not infatuated with it at all. I'm not sure it's a good idea. But if IU is considering hiring a 68-year-old coach (which I also don't think is a good idea), everybody knows he won't be coaching very long. He'd almost have to have a coach-in-waiting for recruits to know. At least that's what I would think.
  3. Another rumor for the rumor mill....my wife works in a large (class 6A) Indiana high school, and the folks in the athletic department there believe the hire will be Beilein with Calbert as the coach-in-waiting. They have heard Beilein will coach 3 years and then turn the reins over to Calbert. I asked her who they heard this from and she has no idea. It kind of makes sense if they're considering Beilein, but I don't know....maybe they know something, maybe they don't.
  4. They don't seem to understand that howling at every tweet that the program is an embarrassment is an embarrassment to the program.
  5. Maybe he spelled Chris Beard wrong.
  6. Well gosh, I guess Marquette is a better job than IU. They nabbed a guy with a losing conference record in 6 years at Texas to be their coach, ha ha.
  7. Given who may have been interviewed so far, I wonder if Dolson has been interviewing for an interim head coach position.
  8. Seems like there are a lot more important causes if you want to fight against dishonesty, and I'd be all for it. I'm not sure what harm this is causing. No one's going to riot or be killed if Brad Stevens doesn't come.
  9. I have no problem with high expectations. The nauseatingly negative opinions about a coaching search that people know absolutely nothing about yet are childish.
  10. Ask Jawaan Howard about him, though. NBA "resume" is about a lot more than wins and losses, especially if you're trying to translate it to college success.
  11. Good question. I guess the honest answer is I don't know. I'm 55 and an IU grad. I've invested a hell of a lot of time and money into Indiana basketball over the years. I want a big name that has a high chance for success. They can operate in the "grey area" and I'm fine with it. Absent that, I at least want an IU guy I can root for. Another mediocre hire AND with no ties to the program, and there's a good chance I'm done.
  12. If Woodson is honestly under serious consideration, I'd ask why not Keith Smart. Former IU player, former NBA head coach, highly respected assistant, and 6-7 years younger than Woodson.
  13. I guess I'm confused, if all the rumors are to be believed, why Dolson started with his A-list candidate, and when that supposedly fell through he pulled out his D-list instead of waiting for the Bs to finish the tournament.
  14. Whoever has the most "chatter" will be today's "frontrunner."
  15. It's unbelievable, and you're exactly right.
  16. So Goodman was standing next to Matta a half hour ago yet somebody else broke the story that IU signed him but he failed his physical.
  17. Any idea yet who the next might be?
  18. We'll see. We can speculate on who will come and who won't, but we don't know until we try. I suspect good coaches will know they can come here and consistently win big, make a lot of money (at least it appears we are offering a lot), and be considered a hero in this state for bring the program back. But again, we'll see.
  19. I love Oats. Like Beard, he's a difference-maker, both at Buffalo and now Alabama. Those are the guys you want, in my opinion.
  20. I took it to mean IU was his dream school as a kid, but it's not anymore.
  21. I think Beard is a great coach. One of the ways I judge a coach is to look at how he has done at his school compared to his school's overall history. Tech has little history. They made it out of the first round of the tournament a grand total of 6 times before Beard got there. He's arguably already the most successful coach they've ever had, including Bob Knight. He's already had more consecutive winning seasons than any coach they've ever had. Likewise, at Arkansas-Little Rock, look at that school's record the year before he got there (13-18) and the year after he left (15-17). Yet, he was 31-5. He's a difference-maker, and that is hard to find. He hasn't coached at places where everybody generally wins, like Archie and Crean had. And for icing on the cake, he knocked Purdue out the tournament at both schools.
  22. I guess if a guy wants to prove he's a biased fool, he might as well leave no doubt.
  23. Wasn't Boca where one of the planes went?
  24. Sounds like a lot of people are saying about the same thing: Brad, unlike before, decided to listen to us. He told us what it would take to get him, and we met his demands. Now we're waiting to see if he will actually accept what he asked for. Is that close to accurate?
  25. I hope you don't need another one before the press conference, ha ha.
