They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
IUHoosierJoe replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If negotiations got to the point that Stevens got on a plane to meet with IU officials and a contract was produced for him to sign, you’d have to think Stevens was really interested, no? I mean, the alternative, even according to your what your own sources say happened, was that Stevens had nothing better to do during the home stretch of Boston’s regular season than negotiate with Indiana just to lead them on. -

In short, she is an expert in how to make decisions that yield good results while at the same time purportedly working in a department that has consistently made decisions that yield poor results. -

Reporter: Quinn, why did you force Scott Dolson to give Mike Woodson a fourth year when most of the fan base knew it wouldn't work out? Buckner: Young fella, don't give it like that! Hoo-hoo! -

Just curious who you think is on Dolson’s candidate list. -

I would offer that convincing Mike Woodson to voluntarily step down would save what is left of Mike Woodson’s Indiana legacy. It would save him from more boos and probably “we want Dusty” chants in a specific upcoming game. Would it help anybody besides Mike Woodson? That can be debated, but I don’t think it would hurt anyone, either. The product on the floor is a waste of everyone’s time, including the players’. -

Tell Goode that the fans were on their feet screaming for them when they cut the lead down to 20-something in the second half after sleepwalking through the first half. Tell him to go find somewhere else where the fans would have stuck around and done that. -

I actually love it. Makes people look pretty ridiculous when they claim we're an irrelevant program when coaches are getting bonuses written into their contracts for beating us. -

Maybe. They can also improve, because they are well-coached. I won't be too surprised to see them in the Elite 8. And they were 3-17 in the B1G last year. Amazing job by Dusty. ANOTHER amazing job, I should say. -

Exactly. And again, one of the advantages we have is a fertile recruiting ground, and we have to capitalize on that. -

I think this is arguably a valid point. On the other hand, when you can’t get any of the top Indiana high school kids to come here, you’re throwing away one of the biggest inherent advantages this program has. -

I think it’s also, especially for us older(ish) alumni, the fact that a program with limitless potential has generally underachieved for 30 years. That may not be fair to Woodson or whoever the current coach is, but it’s just going to be a fact of life at IU. Because of the poor coaching hires and lack of success, fans understand the warning signs of failure pretty quickly and have grown weary of the excuses for it. -

All true about the NET. Another thing, even if you lose, staying close against really good teams helps, especially on the road. -

I wonder how Woodson gets away with skipping out on that show so often. It’s a pretty significant portion of his outside, marketing, and promotional duties, for which he is paid quite handsomely. It’s not like he has any other shows or really does a lot of other marketing and promotional stuff for the program. -

I’m not sure if this is what you’re asking, but the cap is a dollar cap, not a percentage of revenue cap. It is projected to be $20 million first year, but will certainly go up in future years. -

Short answer is yes, 10-10 would get us in consideration for a bid. Keep in mind, though, we need to find 8 more conference wins. At our current level of play, we are likely going to be favored in only 3 of our remaining games. So, somehow finding those 5 extra wins, while requiring significant improvement in our play, would certainly improve our standing and put us in consideration for a bid.
