The whole fan argument is garbage. Go take a look at Purdue social media today. This in the middle of one of the best runs in the history of their program. Fans are not the biggest problem, fans are fans. When you are losing it just highlights the biggest losers in a fanbase. So I don't completely dismiss that some guys are turned off by our wackos. But the wackos weren't the problem, the losing was. The problem has always been picking the wrong guys to be in charge.

Each of them is probably being truthful. Losing sucks and winning makes everything better. Even when the football team was losing it was probably better for those guys because the expectations were so low and only the diehards really paid attention to the program. Nobody was tweeting Kellen Lewis to tell him about every missed play. People were writing TJD to let him know how much he blows. I don't buy that fans dictate whether a team can win, but I do think our crazier fans have been used by media to get clicks and that the picture they paint probably makes this place look kind of unattractive to players and their families. Apathy is the best way to express our disappointment anymore, not anger. Writers don't have much to go on when the story is "Team sucks, fans didn't show up."

Then don't support it. Ignore it. I don't totally buy the argument but threads like this get pointed to as "crazy fans hold the program back" and that ends up being the narrative that leaks out to people who don't pay attention. "Those IU fans are too harsh, they harass their own coaches and players...." So that becomes the narrative people hear about us. They aren't getting that from me this go around and frankly I disagree, a "Fire the Coach" thread halfway through year one is extremely reactionary and stupid IMO.

Oh, don't get me wrong, this basketball season has been totally deflating. Thank God football has been historically awesome the past two years because without that it would be bleak around here. I miss college basketball as my interest level in it just isn't the same when Indiana isn't any good. So my approach this go around is going to be to hold it all at arm's length unless/until it looks like the program is turning the corner. I won't be a fan that can be blamed for caring too much and being too vociferous this time around. A bad product will be met with apathy. That empty hall has been sold as preferable to threads like this. I just don't want to be part of the cop out from the school this time. He has 4 years. They always do. He and the school are going to sink or swim on their own. The basketball program has been hot garbage for the better part of almost 3 decades now. It should be getting the pre-Cignetti IU football treatment at this point. I will come back fully when it looks like things are turned around. Until then, I tune in when it fits my schedule and I am early to pull the plug when it looks like things are going **** up.

This is all water under the bridge but he should have been the hire when the decision was made to hire an "IU guy" and see how it goes. Whenever people used to talk about doing that, I feel he was the guy they wanted. Nobody had Woodson on that list except Quinn and Ferguson. Outside of that, Devries isn't getting canned. Anyone already on that train needs to push away from the table and just wait until things look like they are turning around. I don't think the fans are to blame but having a thread like this get out into the media in year one (and they do watch this place) just makes us look stupid.

I was thinking about the size of the Collosus at Rhodes. You would have to walk under him to wnter the stadium so you could see how big his balls were for that 4th down QB sneak call. -
