So I will ring in here, I think it was fed up after Woodson and at a certain point, you could tell this team just isn't built to do the "it" we want it to. They are about at their ceiling right now which is to squeak into the tournament and probably be one and done. They are still in a position to do that but honestly you kind of look around at the programs in our area and after just seeing a national title run in football and sitting around watching 19-12, 8 minute scoring drought, can't defend very well basketball just isn't that exciting. We have been "rebuilding" for 10 years and frankly the program is just stale. The crowd was stale. The play was stale. There is just no juice, like it doesn't even really excite or bother me too much while watching the games anymore. I was all in on the football team during the CFP run and when I contrast it to this it is the difference between being invested and watching out of habit and nothing better to do. And when the bulk of the team is going to be gone next year, you aren't even watching for the future. The argument we have heard the past 10 years is that the fan base has held the program back with our negativity and we all just need to shut up and go away for awhile until they get things cooking again. They are getting their wish. Twitter was about as docile after a disaster like last night as I have ever seen out of the fanbase and that wasn't because of understanding, it is apathy.

I think you can get mid major guards but you can't rely on mid major bigs. I think you will miss more than you hit with those.

Talent covers up for when you don't perfectly execute. This team doesn't have the talent so when they don't execute extremely well or a more talented team does execute well, we get beat. Listen, this is Devries first year so a split with Purdue is "acceptable" but this has been a Woodson-esque performance from a results standpoint. Decently competitive at home, lose some we shouldn't, get obliterated by Top 25 teams on the road. That has been this program's MO going back several coaches now. Devries is going to get a Mulligan this year but these road blowouts absolutely have to stop. I am not saying win the game at Purdue every year, but multiple double digit blow outs every year has to stop. We were never in that game last night. -

That is a talent issue. Wr have some young guys who could develop into something but Wilkerson and to a lesser extent Devries are the only two guys on our team who would get major minutes at a Top 5 Big Ten program. Everyone else is either a developing bench player or one of those players who has been in the program for 3 or 4 years that comes in and can give you a solid few minutes while the starter is getting a blow. So far, we are treading water of the Woodson era. He had better players but couldn't coach them and in year one I think Devries can coach but he doesn't have a competitive roster. You have to have both of those things in your favor to win at an acceptable level. -
Did he play center in those games? Any chance he could play the 4? I would be trying to develop an outside shot for him. Having an athletic stretch 4 and then a true banger is the way to go IMO. You put Sisley in that mix too and you could go small ball when you need. If Dorn continues to develop you put him at the 3. Then you are looking at adding a few guards IMO. The two positions I would pay bigger money for are PG and C.

The whole fan argument is garbage. Go take a look at Purdue social media today. This in the middle of one of the best runs in the history of their program. Fans are not the biggest problem, fans are fans. When you are losing it just highlights the biggest losers in a fanbase. So I don't completely dismiss that some guys are turned off by our wackos. But the wackos weren't the problem, the losing was. The problem has always been picking the wrong guys to be in charge.
