Both of these teams are pretty awful. We're a pretty good mid major team. We have to hit 3's or we have a problem. If we are hitting that shot, we are a problem. If we aren't, we have a problem.

Cool, he doesn't agree with me. Sounds like we are likely to land at least one of the Top 40 kids he was looking at if internet chatter is accurate. The ball hasn't really even bounced on the season yet and our team is 100% different than it was last year. Teams are bringing in G League guys. Recruiting misses just don't hit like they used to. YMMV I guess.

I think unless it is a kid from Indiana, I don't know how much value you get out of kids outside the Top 40 anymore. They don't want to wait to develop, you might as well go portal at that point.

Indiana has to compete with more options than Iowa. Quite a bit of our alumni base is in Indianapolis and Chicago. You have a football program that got good and is cashing in, which means it is more expensive to support them. The Colts just got better. The Pacers went to the finals last year. You got Caitlin mania that is in Indy now. You still have the basketball program. Chicago has a bunch of professional teams as well. It is a much more competitive sports environment in Indiana and in the cities where we drop quite a bit of our alumni base.

Last night was "big time" football. If you had told me as a student when the school was handing out tickets to Freshman for free and we were winning 2 to 3 games a year that we would ever be a "big time" football program in my lifetime, I would have asked for some of what you were smoking. Amazing what a competent staff, commitment from the school, and the leveling of the pay to play playing field cand do for a program.

I think McCollum might be a better coach but I think he wouldn't have fit here either.
