Is there a CliffsNotes available for this?

Let's be real. He's only won 1 national championship. Sure it was at Baylor which was historically bad before him. But how impressive is that really? It's still just 1 championship. We need our next coach to have at least 2 of those under his belt to be happy with the hire. /s Seriously, though, I don't understand how anyone could look at his record at Baylor and say no thanks. Maybe they don't like something else about him but his record? 5 seed once, 3 seed 6 times, 1 seed twice. 2 S16, 2 EE, 1 NC. Even when he missed the tournament he went to the NIT final twice, winning once.

That's part of the purpose of a search firm. They do all of the initial contacting so the school only gets involved when they have someone where there is legitimate mutual interest. The school can then say, with a straight face, this was our first and only one. We talked to no one else.

Only partially believable. The part I do believe is that Whitten would say no way to hiring Facial Hair. I don't believe that Dolson proposed hiring him. Which poster was it?

Maybe, maybe not. I do think you're just here to troll us with Mark Turgeon talk.

Coincidence those happened on the same day? I think not. You say it's not you? You didn't start that rumor just to be able to make that tweet? Wright, wright, sure.

Good advice, Ant.

After listening to this, I want TJ Otzelberger even more. Already had great defense on his teams and now the offense is getting there. Doesn't just concentrate on just on side of the court. https://crimsoncast.substack.com/p/ep-1202-a-rivalry-win-and-evaluating They talk about Otzelberger, McDermott, Buzz Williams, and Tommy Lloyd. Candidate talk starts at about 28 minutes. Before that is the Purdue game and a bit about May's extension.

One thing that did come from that is that he thinks that Dolson will hire an offensively minded coach. As long as that coach can also have his teams play at least a very good defense, I'd be happy with that. We don't need Crean 2.0 with good offense and bad defense. He's the article he was basing all of that on: https://www.foxsports.com/stories/college-basketball/how-dan-hurley-fashioned-uconn-into-an-offensive-juggernaut-and-repeat-title-contender

I heard something in regards to _________. I won't say from whom. I won't say if it's good or bad news. I only paid for 247 since it comes with Paramount+ which I was already paying for. Looks like I didn't miss much by not having it. About as worthless when I took a Peegs trial a long time ago when they were on Rivals. Can't say that I'm surprised.

It appears Rabby was unable to find out any more info on the Otzelberger front.

I saw that the Lucas Oil game is considered a home game and not a neutral site game. That means that IU controls the tickets like a home game. It's possible IU wanted that for some reason (I think it was Cal but just saying it's possible). It does seem like it would be better to have both home games in Bloomington, at least to me.

It is. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/report-indiana-vs-kentucky-basketball-series-is-back-in-2025/

Which names are you hearing?

Alford was brought up plenty of times in the past coaching searches but it seems like people have mostly moved on from him, thankfully. Pretty much no one on this board has talked about him. I'll sometimes glance at other boards and some FB groups and I'm not seeing much about him there, either. He would be an awful hire for multiple reasons.

Welcome to the club.

Rabby, in true Rabby fashion, was extremely vague and didn't divulge who reached out. When people assumed that it was people reaching out on behalf of Otzelberger, he said that isn't what he said. He went on to say that he's trying to find out if Otzelberger has interest and should be added to the next hot board.

It could be something as simple as the overall money stays the same (or close) but the contract length changes. For instance, if $100M / 10 years ($10M/year) is the offer and the counter is $100M / 8 years ($12.5M/year) or $98M / 7 years ($14M/year). I have no idea if that is the case, just throwing out a possibility. I'm pretty skeptical about Stevens even getting as far as negotiations and doubt he's being considered at this time.

That's probably from Beard and company or IU fans trying to will it into being true. Won't happen.

Since there is a rumor from the Texas 247 site Trilly Discord in the coaching candidate thread that Scott Drew will be the next IU coach, I guess I'll start a thread just for him. He would be a home run hire, imo. Took over a Baylor program that was in a terrible place and hadn't been historically good and not only turned them into a consistent winner, but won a National Championship there. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/iu-basketball-coaching-candidate-profile-scott-drew/ https://www.insidethehall.com/2025/02/21/indiana-basketball-coaching-search-profile-scott-drew/ https://www.crimsonquarry.com/2025/2/24/24370605/indiana-basketball-coaching-search-scott-drew I personally have my doubts since he turned down UK and UL just a year ago. Maybe being from Indiana will be enough to change his (or his wife's) mind. I guess we'll see.

I agree that Woodson being retired before the end of the season was damage control. I still think (or rather, hoping, I guess) that Dolson was preparing for making a basketball hire since the end of last season. I'm not on the "Woodson wouldn't have been fired unless Dolson had his man" boat. So I don't think he needed to have a good idea of if they would say yes or not before letting Woodson go, but I think he did have that info. To me, the lack of an official statement of support for Woodson getting this year shows that Dolson was likely ready to move on. Instead of that official statement, we got a "leak." Very tepid support for Woodson. As someone said, when you start wondering if the coach should be retained or not, it is time to move on from him. So a good AD would start to prepare a bit for that to happen.
-
If Woodson made it to the end of this season without being "retired," there would have been even more angst and insanity. It just would've been fretting about whether Woodson would be back next year instead of who the next coach will be. I certainly expect that Dolson did have a longer list than just 2 or 3 names and he probably had a good idea at the chances of landing Stevens or May before Woodson was "retired."

Some people on this board do believe that, others don't. You should come to your own conclusion on if you believe it or not.

As fun as coaching searches are, I'd go for the one that would be there longer.
