  1. It could be worse. We could be stuck with Holtmann instead of about to hire Stevens or another good coach.

B1G not doing well so far in the tournament. MSU is out. 2 seed OSU is about to get beat by 15 seed Oral Roberts.
  3. I've seen a few of them. He's quite a personality. Even more than basketball, it's for sports like this that I really want the athletes to earn money from NIL. Miller could've made bank in college with a vlog like that. Lilly King could've cashed in on her Olympic gold. Even the swimmers who aren't stars could make money through swim camps during the summer and things like that.
  4. First day on the internet? When trying to spot fake accounts, websites, emails, etc extra characters like that should always send up flags and set off alarms. In this case I was told by multiple people that it is actually a legit backup account so I'll believe those people. But to act like it was silly to question its authenticity is silly or naïve.
  5. 2 s at the end of the name. barstooltweetss I think it's fake.
  6. It's back up now. I and a bunch of others are still here. I'll probably end up frequenting both. For now this is the place to be for all the Stevens DL in one place!
  7. Well, Brendan Burns is a stud that can score points in multiple events. He's someone they can build medley relays around like Lanza. At this time not quite as good as Lanza but those guys don't come around often. A few other young, very good swimmers on the team so I can believe it. They've greatly improved the distance swimming group.should be a top 10 team at nationals this year. Hopefully closer to 5.
  8. Yes, both teams have been good. The men really good with a legit chance to win the NC a couple of years ago.
  9. I doubt Cuban is involved at all unless he wants to be accused of tampering.
  10. I think if IU gets to the mid or late April without naming a new coach, everyone would know that it was Stevens. No way they go that long after the NCAA season completely finishes (April 5) without hiring a coach from another university (or unemployed) unless they're waiting on the NBA season to finish. This is, of course, assuming no more leaks than what there are now.

It seems to me you try every avenue before Beilein and Matta. They'll probably still be unemployed so will be available. That means waiting for a definite no from Stevens and any coaches currently in the NCAAT. So it could be a few weeks at least before those can be crossed off the list.

I agree. After Knight they just handed the job to Davis. Not surprising but it was disappointing. Initially a good coach but wasn't ready to handle all the aspects of a head coaching position, especially not at IU. After that was Sampson. That kind of came out of left field for me and I was disappointed and puzzled because of the trouble he had gotten into previously. That blew up in IU's face. The guy can coach but terrible hire. I was just as surprised by Tom Crean. I wasn't wowed by his history so that hire was disappointing, as well. (See a trend here?) I paid a bit more attention to the coaching search after Crean than I had for the previous two so Miller wasn't as surprising. A bit disappointing as I wanted a big name but at the time it seemed like a solid hire. That proved to be wrong. This time I'd be at least somewhat happy about each name on that list and they all seem like they'd be good hires or better.
  13. I love that there's a swimming thread here but it doesn't look very busy. Thanks for keeping it going @Class of '66 Old Fart. Here's an article on one of the men's commitments. http://www.therepublic.com/2021/03/16/leepeat__north_senior_is_boys_swimmer_of_year_for_second_straight_season/ He'll need to drop some time to be a championship meet point contributor at IU but hopefully he can do that. He did break the school record of Jon Karr in the 100 back. Karr won 3 straight state championships in the backstroke in the 90s. Back in the 90s I swam against Karr and the state champion before him (and state record holder at that time), Dan Schultz from BNL. Between the 2 of them I never had a chance to win sectionals. Lol
  14. Short answer: Yes. Long answer: It's a combination of a lot of things, including some of what you have there. His college HC experience. He took Butler to back to back championship games and was 1 basket from winning 1 of them. This is quite an accomplishment in and of itself. Butler was very bad for a very long time. They were decent when he took over but nowhere near back to back championship games good. He made them better and then repeated the feat to show the first wasn't a fluke. He was able to get his teams to overachieve. His years at Butler were enough to convince an NBA team to hire him. Has 8 years experience as an NBA coach for one of the most prestigious teams in the Celtics. He's been successful there and, while the team this year isn't doing that great, has had some seasons of overachieving. Multiple Eastern Conference Finals so he's had some success in the playoffs but no Finals or championships. Still very good. Grew up an IU fan so he knows all about Hoosier culture. He's young so he can be the coach for a long time. Well known name at this point so that and his NBA experience would really help recruiting. He would also be able to handle the egos of the players as he has plenty of experience with that. His teams tend to play as much greater than the sum of their parts. This is something Miller, Crean, and Davis were never really able to do but Knight and Sampson did. I doubt his time in the NBA will hurt his coaching at the college level at all. If anything, he's more knowledgeable now than he was before and should be able to do even better at the college level with that new knowledge and the more talented players he'd be able to land. Coaching changes are never a sure thing but, to me, this is as close to one as they come.
  15. I also subscribed to peegs for a single year a long time ago. Waste of money.
  16. Free hype that will be seen by every potential recruit. Great timing if it happens.
  17. I hope you're right! Any indication on when it might be announced officially?
  18. I know you get good info but I have a hard time believing this one for several reasons. I hope you and Roberts are both right but I doubt he said that to a recruit. Are they even recruiting now without knowing who the next coach will be and therefore not knowing which players he'd want to recruit? Or are they casting a wide net of maybes? Telling recruits would also make it leak super fast.

    Candidate Thread: Scott Drew (Baylor)

Of the names being thrown around, Drew is my choice after Stevens. So you're not alone.
  20. Imagine that conversation. Dolson: We'll give $8M per year. Anything you want. Stevens: It's a deal. For my assistants I'll try to get ____, ____, and ____. Dolson: Yeah... about that. I misspoke. We'll give you the $8M per year and most things you want but we get to select your assistant coaches. So almost anything you want.
  21. Right. I'm guessing $4.5M. Probably in the $4M-5M range.

I'm neither of them but @IUwins0708 said he heard Mrs Stevens was ready to move back to IN.
