(2024) - Liam McNeeley to UConn

Yes, what you say about McNeeley is correct. I think Mgbako is considered as more of a scorer who is a decent shooter. -

In his case, even that wasn't a done deal. Not even enrolling in school and starting practice was a done deal for him. -

@Uspshoosier explains above, they saw him play and he wasn't playing well due to injury. 5 rating points seems to be a pretty steep drop considering all the other times he's been playing well. -

As for #2, Woodson has only coached for 3 off-seasons in college ball. So this is really his only second chance at long recruitments. It looks like he's learned from past misses. IU offered McNeeley in April of 2022, so 1 1/2 years ago. How many recruitments of that length did IU have of anywhere near that length in Woodson's second off-season? At that time, Woodson had only 1 season of play to point at as far trying to convince recruits. Basically, he was still new to college coaching and it was a small sample size. I understand it was the guy from HH saying it, it just seems like a premature statement to make. What has changed is that he had more time to get to know Liam and his family, he has 2 seasons to point at with the most recent one being pretty successful, he's had more commitments from highly ranked recruits, he's put 2 players into the NBA with one of those a one-and-done from Liam's school. It certainly didn't hurt that JHS has been vocal with how going to IU helped him. Success breads success, so ifIU does well this season and Mgbako and/or Ware get drafted in the first round this year, Woodson will have an even better chance of landing players of this caliber. -

Having Queen's very good friend who can remind him every day (directly or not) who he can be playing with next year certainly won't hurt. -

I wonder what happened in September? 247 slashed his rating by 5 points in less than a week. On 9/7 they had him at a 98 rating and then on 9/13 they dropped the rating to 93 which is also his lowest. This after he played well over the summer. Seems like a mistake to me. Makes them look clueless. That's why I prefer the composite. More importantly is who is recruiting him hard. I think those coaches know better than 247. https://247sports.com/PlayerSport/boogie-fland-at-archbishop-stepinac-273597/RecruitRankHistory/?history=top247 -
Nor should it. If the administration doesn't care about the football team, why should the fans? That would just tell the AD that the fans will be there regardless and won't lead to any change.

That would be a home run hire. I heard he's the best coach of all time. Seriously, though, is it still thought that Boogie will announce his decision tomorrow? Or just sometime soon with no idea of when exactly? -

Time to start worrying? Sure, IU landed McNeeley but that was a whole hour ago and Fland still hasn't committed. Let's face it, Woodson has lost it and can't recruit. Who has he landed in the last hour since McNeeley? No one! -
That's because the football team has been bad because the administration doesn't care. If they don't care and put forth any effort, why should the fans?

It's quiet because he's in decision mode so nothing is really changing looking from the outside. Coaches can't visit him so it's just waiting for the announcement, which might be as early as tomorrow. -
Because we also don't spend very much on that sport, even with greatly overpaying the HC. We go cheap on assistants, recruiting, facilities, etc.
-
He sounds like a better option at HC than Allen.

This author uses a lot of words to say, "I don't know." https://bustingbrackets.com/2023/10/13/ncaa-basketball-recruiting-kansas-indiana-best-spot-5-star-liam-mcneeley/ -
Unlike Crean then Miller, I don't think the next football hire could be even worse than the current one.

That's pretty much what he said, except he confused "hope" with "wish." -

He was in the same incoming class as Galloway and Leal. He gets a COVID year. Even if he came the year after, he would have 1 more year left since this would be his junior year. -

Because some people realize that the opposing players are actual people and might like that person and want them to do well. -
I see where you're coming from. That makes sense.
-
Going by last year, that's a pretty big IF. I think he can do better and probably will but I'll wait to see. Right now he's just a threat to shoot from the bench but not actually a threat to score. Ware showed more flashes of being a scorer last year than Gunn did but you seem higher on Gunn than Ware, which is odd to me.

I agree. This definitely looks like a thin, top heavy team.

He's been my favorite player on the team since his freshman year. He's not a stat stuffer but he does a lot of things that help the team win and plays with so much effort and energy. That can be contagious. Even his freshman year, the other players seemed to have more energy and play harder when he was in the game. The Miller teams never seemed to have much energy or effort so it was very noticeable. He's made great improvements in his shooting but I think a lot of his poor shooting was due to wrist injuries during HS messing up his form. Regardless of the reason, he worked hard to fix it. Speaking of injuries, last year his most unappreciated improvement may have been finding a way to play as hard as he does without getting injured. He's been injury prone because of his style of play and I had my doubts he could go a whole season without missing games due to injury but he was able to last year. He needs to keep that up. What he's really missing is becoming a consistent scorer. If he can do that, it would do wonders for the team, especially if he's at or around double digits.
