Ex-Memphis player and father of a 4* recruit Billy Richmond says the NIL at Memphis isn't very good. That certainly confirms why Givens ended up selecting LSU. https://www.commercialappeal.com/story/sports/college/memphis-tigers/2023/10/10/billy-richmond-father-of-top-memphis-recruit-criticizes-fans-over-nil/71131549007/

Yes, that would be really nice to see. It's been quite a while since I looked at an IU team and thought that they were overperforming. The last couple of years have been good but I would say that Woodson was just getting them back to meeting expectations for the talent on the team (maybe even slightly underperforming) after 4 years of significantly underperforming under Miller. Crean did a decent job of getting his teams to perform to their talent levels and maybe slightly overperform some years while underperforming others. Very up and down with him. As much as he was a mistake to hire, Sampson had his teams overperforming imo.

(2024) - PG Boogie Fland to Kentucky

UK's pro day is today so it's not Cal. At most an assistant or it may have nothing to do with Boogie. -

You're correct but I think the season has actually started. However, even during the season they are limited in the number of hours they are allowed to work directly with the players (practice). It's more time than during the offseason but still limited. The players aren't limited in how much they work on their games without the coaching staff, as you say. I'm not positive about this but the number 20 hours per week comes to mind. I think that is how much practice time the coaches are allowed to have during the season. Edit: I looked it up and the 20 hours per week is correct. In addition they are restricted to 4 hours per day and you were correct about requiring 1 day off per week. These number are just the maximum the staff can require and work with the players. -
His offensive numbers weren't great last year but he was still a rim protector so I think at very least that is what IU gets this year. 1.3 blocks in less than 16 minutes per game. That works out to about 3.3 blocks per 40 minutes. That's pretty close to what TJD averaged last year. Now if he can get the offense going too? Especially if Mgbako is as good as advertised, Reneau makes a jump, and Galloway and Johnson don't have a drop off from past performances? Watch out. Such a high ceiling for this team but also lots of questions, especially about the bench. It might take some time before it all meshes but they could really be hard to beat by the end of the season.

If they can use that chain during the game they might have a chance simply by injuring all of the Michigan players. Other than that...not really.

2023 SF/PF Mackenzie Mgbako to Texas A&M via Portal

https://themessenger.com/sports/mens-college-basketball-2023-ncaa-top-freshmen Mackenzie Mgbako, 6-foot-8, 217 lbs., F, Indiana — Two years ago, I thought he was the No. 1 player in the class. Initially, he was slated to go to Duke but wound up in Bloomington. He’s a combo forward who has a versatile offensive game, and Mike Woodson will need him to be able to shoot it from long distance this season. -

If Trilly Donovan is right about the Boogie commitment on the 16th (and if the IU fans are interpreting his posts correctly), it could be a huge couple of days for IU. Or a very disappointing couple of days. Either way, less than a week until we know. -

No, he's already visited IU. -
I haven't seen anything about the Pro Day yet. That's kind of concerning since I'm pretty sure we saw several people reacting positively to TJD and JHS the same day as their Pro Day last year

Between this and Allen's contract, it shows that IU might actually be ready to start spending money on football. Allen's contract shows they don't pick the right people to spend that money on, though. TBD with Carey's contract. Now if they'd just be willing to spend money on the ridiculous Allen buyout after this season and then have a real coaching search... won't happen but one can dream. -

Stranger Things is set in Indiana but I don't think it's actually filmed in Indiana... Pedantic distinction, I know. -

I would also note that those crystal ball picks were made back in February. A lot can happen in 8 months and IU has really been working hard on his recruitment over the summer and fall. While those picks may ultimately end up being correct, they didn't really know anything when they made them and other schools do have a legit chance at landing Queen so I wouldn't put any stock into them at all. That said, it is still thought that Maryland is the team to beat here. -
I forgot about the surgery but now that you mention it, yes, I thought it was bs at the time since even when he was available he wasn't getting much PT. It looks like he would've been better of staying at IU even if he didn't play basketball because the rest of his school would've still been paid for. I hope it all works out for him.

It seemed like he was pretty often unavailable for games while at IU due to illness. A few times each season for a a couple of games each time. But maybe I'm remembering it incorrectly.

I guess IU still has #1 in not winning.

Man, IU can't even be first in this. smh

This article talks about it a bit: https://www.kansascity.com/sports/college/big-12/university-of-kansas/article279252244.html KU men’s basketball players Johnny Furphy and Elmarko Jackson are listed on the incident report as witnesses. KU basketball’s Nick Timberlake is also listed, under “other.” A witness can be someone who “saw or heard the crime take place or may have important information about the crime or the defendant,” according to a U.S. Department of Justice definition. A source with knowledge of the situation said the men’s basketball players listed as witnesses or “other” on the incident report were interviewed after the fact and “not involved in the incident at all. They are not under investigation or anything like that remotely.” Two additional witnesses who are not men’s basketball players are also listed. A witness listing does not necessarily mean that person was present when an alleged crime was committed.
