It sucks for him. In fairness to him, or his bumbling advisors, he didn't anticipate another serious leg injury that would sideline him for such extended time. His stock would still be great if he didn't go through more injuries, and in that regard he's kind of snake bitten.

Mods, not sure if there's a thread up somewhere on this, merge if needed -- but a pretty big ruling today out of the Supreme Court. It's a fairly narrow ruling as written (a unanimous ruling), but has potentially major impact. This is the case in which college athletes have maintained that NCAA Rules (limiting educational benefits for college players as part of their schollys, Div. 1 basketball and football, capping scholarships at the cost of attending) effectively act as a restraint of competition, violating antitrust laws. The NCAA essentially countered that its Rules were largely exempt from the antitrust laws, because they're directed at maintaining amateurism in college athletics. The NCAA sought immunity from antitrust laws. the Rules at issue limited education-related benefits, e.g., computers, that colleges offer to student athletes. The Court (unanimously) held that the NCAA Rules are not reasonably necessary to distinguish between college and professional sports. The Court found the suit involved admitted horizontal price fixing in a market in which the defendants exercise monopoly control. The decision does not directly address 'name, image and likeness' rules, but it does likely push the NCAA to work with Congress going forward in addressing compensation to college athletes. Now, the NCAA cannot bar a school from adding in extra education-related benefits to Div 1 bball and football players, though the individual conferences apparently still can. One of the quotes: “Nowhere else in America can businesses get away with agreeing not to pay their workers a fair market rate on the theory that their product is defined by not paying their workers a fair market rate,” Justice Kavanaugh wrote. “And under ordinary principles of antitrust law, it is not evident why college sports should be any different. Right there with you, 54, was there for '76, '81 and '87, the last as a junior (and maybe I know something about that fish still missing from Showalter Fountain... that was a fun night ... :) There's a lot about IU's tradition I'm big on, but the jersey thing is just one thing and times have changed, can absolutely be all about IU and still want your name on the back, nothing wrong with that at all

We’ll see more of this, the G League now pays decent but more significantly it’s become a legit route, with professional development and player competition level, to the NBA. It’s no longer necessary to build a brand in college ball. The G League is now real.

Thing is we’re likely to see multiple different lineups in multiple games and I’d be surprised if we didn’t see the two together, situationally, at some point — Woodson has shown over many years that he is flexible and will run the team and sets needed as a game can dictate - and that will be refreshing.

Exactly -- have been saying this for Hunter for some time, he's a shooter/scorer whose game was significantly limited by CAM's offense (offense that was, well, offensive). A lot of people are sleeping on Hunter, and not saying that's not fair, questions remain about whether he'll have that free-flowing game back with his game legs at 100%, but I do think he has a real shot at having a much improved year under Woody's floor-spacing, inside-out and get out and gun offense. CAM's "offense" killed the outside game.

I'll play Knight -- Going with Alford. No fear, ego without bounds, talent to match his ego, a winner no matter what. Davis -- Going with Bracey Wright - out of state recruit, talented but undisciplined, maybe underappreciated Sampson - I'll go with Arman Basset for same reasons, seriously talented, no interest in academics, left IU after Sampson and took his next team, Ohio, to the tourney, also MVP of the 2010 MAC tourney Crean - I like Troy here Miller - Either Rob or Lander, talented, lost on offense (and won't be, imo, under Woody) Woodson (too soon?) I think Bates is going to be Woody personified on the court - dynamic player, on BOTH ends, offensively attacking and pulling up to rain threes off the bounce, downhill in transition, and a flat out winner

It's of course way early to be talking NBA ... but yeah, this kid already has that combination of dribble-moves, outside pull-up and athleticism to go with being a two-way wing... I'm really looking forward to watching him play a real role in redefining IU ball.

Never bought into the transfer rumor, Hunter has a chance to have a really good season now with Woody’s stretch-the-floor run and gun game, kid’s a shooter

There’s a piece up on ITH now with Fife talking a lot about Rob, how he doesn’t see a better defender in the B1G, how he sees an easy fix to his shot noting how many shots Rob took moving laterally, and being there for kick outs with feet set. That sounds like a starter, and thing is the poll has him only as a point, but Woody is looking to have a different guy bring the ball up repeatedly and Rob can play well off ball and bring it up - I see him as starting. I’m hoping Lander is ready to start as primary ball handler or at least one of them, there’s no one as quick, and he was the no. 1 ranked point in his class for good reason. I think the other starting on ball / primary ball handler will be X, driving and kicking or dishing off to TJD. After TJD, I just have no idea at this point. Bates is going to be fantastic, but he hasn’t played a college game yet. Doubt he starts, though maybe by mid season. No one seems to be talking about Hunter but he can spread the floor and I’m hoping he’s close to 100 percent and now in a system and under a motivating, encouraging coach that will let him rip the outside shots. Kopp was brought in to knock them down. Race is a better all around player (imo) and if gets the jumper going watch out. Geronimo has monster potential - will he hit from outside with more shots, Guys are brought in on transfer and we focus on them but that kid could kill it this season. Stewart? Can’t tell yet, promise is there. Started to do this poll but gave up lol
