  1. But you’re only talking about IU under CAM, that’s not representative. As Scott pointed out we were beating UK (and the tourney game we lost with Vic was when they hit almost every free throw and iirc Vic fouled out). We were bad on all fronts under CAM, that’s over.
  2. Fully agree until the last sentence! The only real challenge I see going forward is getting the little chicken to play IU when we’re good. He wants to control the scheduling so it favors him/UK. Pathetic really
  3. Good article, and it's the defensive side of the ball and defensive schemes that are going to determine how much he plays -- I like that one of the comments was significant minutes. We'll see, but he's going to be a good one regardless.
  4. I agree with this in part Aloha. I was really frustrated with Kopp's shooting last season, but more so for the lack of attempts and the way Woodson used him. I'm a believer in Woodson, but I was really surprised we shot around the same number of outside shots that we did under CAM, that's just mind boggling. We did not use the perimeter. We leaned way to heavily on the frontcourt. What I hope to see this season is guys like Bates, Kopp, JHS, X and yes JG taking those outside shots with the space that I think JHS and X will create with the inside dominance of TJD and Race and some Ren. Not having an inside-out game with these guys on the floor makes no sense, and Kopp can shoot, if he actually takes the dang shots. One thing I liked in Ren's interview from ITH, he talked kick-outs.
  5. Naah. Kopp, after starting all last year and returning as a vet wing and one of the few who can shoot will certainly play through the year. And from everything we hear about Ren, he'll certainly play, some thought he'd start, I'd bank on him coming off the bench behind Race and TJD but playing pretty good minutes by mid-season to end. What those minutes are I have no idea at this point, anywhere from 10-18 maybe. But either of these guys not play? No, don't see it.
  6. Honestly as good as TJD is - excellent- I’m one who strongly believes in matchups and using actual depth when you have it. We beat PU back then with TJD on the bench bc he was getting owned by PU’s bigs and we went to guard play and had a field day. That’s clearly not a reflection of last season with TJD, I don’t mean to say it is, but it is a reflection of the need to use depth and this season is the first we’ve had with legit, experienced m, talented depth and highly skilled frosh with at least 2 who are college ready likely to play real minutes while one starts, in a long @$$ time. Plenty of very good teams use this kind of good depth when they have it, not many would leave the level of players we now have on the bench for the sake of running 7-8, and for our team this year i see no good reason to think or hope we’re playing 7-8 by late. Who exactly, of at least 9 expected good minute players on this team should be left on the bench? X JHS TJD Race Bates JG Ren Trey Kopp then we have Duncomb, who by several accounts is ready to contribute spelling TJD and with some attitude, could be no. 10 Leal, who has shown solid play and may be ready to contribute more Banks who’s getting some hype and Gunn, who seems likely to be largely outside minutes while he acclimates but has good potential i see 9 for sure and hope we have 10. My opinion, Kopp has to show much more than last season, he has to be shooting, but with JHS together with X I think he will, though i also hope Bates is as ready as Woodson seems to be suggesting and takes that starting spot at some point (i do think Kopp will start for his experience but i’d love to see Bates come out on fire and grab it).
  7. Thank God. Yes, when you have real depth, you should use it.

  9. Right we shot by numbers at the bottom of the B1G, hope to see better use of the inside out game and guys on the wing /perimeter getting shots up
  10. Impressive, and I was going to post that our team is now looking like a team of men (it is). We’ve had a bunch of teams where our guys still look young, not that strong, these guys look ready to bang
  11. Hornsby, or Laz. Hornsby brings the shooting and much better than Kopp. Kopp starts by default on this team. We already have the bench depth, so for me it's Hornsby over Laz, but he's a strong 2nd imo.
  12. All schools I've liked for the potential expansion but wow that's big
  13. 100%. One guy over on HSN took to calling Frosh/Soph Wat "Cookies" mocking him as weak going to the rim and defending. Wat of course developed into a guy who could defend multiple positions well, finished well in the lane and of course became exceptional and one of our most memorable players from the perimeter and as a representative of IU basketball. The Wat Shot to this day after decades of IU ball and growing up in B Town remains one of my best memories of IU ball. Why some have to attack and pick on guys especially when they're still developing as Frosh-Soph players at the college level is beyond me.
  14. Good to hear, though his 2 posts contradict each other. If the point about Malik starting if Race wasn’t back was right then he’d be first off the bench. We’ll see how all of this plays out but my opinion, at this point, is that Bates will be first in for Kopp (and I hope plays into starting later), then JG for Race, and/or JG and Malik for TJD and Race. and btw, that’s a a great deal of bench strength however it works out
  15. That’s awesome, this kid is tough. Surgery after a groin pull is no joke. I thought it’d be later, glad to be wrong. I’m sure Woodson will work him back in slowly but returning to full live play in Sept is great, good for Trey
  16. I’d like to see him back just as I hoped Cody would for his soph season. Also think short-term health - continuity - consistent strength is better than waves and troughs. But we know the programs who’ve prospered with OAD’s, and Stu’s point on recruiting is sound, imo
  17. Yes and no. Woodson’s just in year 2. Year 1 back to the tourney then lands 2 5 stars and an all around strong class. Having JHS go right to a good 1st round pick out of the gate would show incoming prospects this is what he can do and immediately.
  18. Oh I know, and couldn't agree more. I was just saying (imo) a lot of the big 80s bands just didn't stand the test of time -- the synthesizer decade lol. Great scene from a movie that can bring you back to your kid/music days, Spielberg's Super 8 (underrated, good film) -- set in the 80s, teenagers sitting around jamming to My Sharona -- Ooh my little pretty one, pretty one, when you gonna give me some time Sharona.... (wait, I looked it up and it was '79 lol)
  19. They also had the Cars, the Police, Journey, Van Halen, U2 -- all bands I really liked (well not so much Journey), saw their concerts, but they haven't stood the test of time. Young adults don't listen to the Cars, most don't even know who they are., few listen to U2. I love Metallica, great band, still enjoy the Pretenders, etc., but, uh, the 80s also brought us the great wave of Duran Duran, Culture Club, etc. There's good music in every decade, but I'd take the 70s over the 80s any day (though I'm doing my best to skirt disco :) )
  20. I see both as real positives. A Cody-like scenario, 2 years after playing a big role in raising the program up, nationally #1 ranked and winning the B1G then to the lotto? Outstanding. A dominant frosh season, win the B1G and help lead us deep in the NCAA tourney, and then on to the podium? Huge for recruiting and helping to bring us back.
  21. You know it's pretty cool to see our adult and young adult kids enjoying the stuff we listened to. All my kids, even with their different tastes, like songs like Aerosmith's Walk This Way (I mean, how couldn't they?) and Sweet Emotion, Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and We Will Rock You, etc. 70's-80's (and really the 90's too, not so much the 80s imo) had some special bands.
  22. Really like - am intrigued by the mid-range comment. If we can bring a 3-level scoring game along with what i think will be a true 2 ball-handler deep backcourt? We’ll be much better offensively
  23. Or that the Beach Boys never surfed and couldn’t lol
