In fairness, Cody had the option to be a one and done, he was a first rounder, but he chose to come back. JHS is a (deserved) 5 star point guard, he's already been working out with Paul George in Cali, doing the CPIII camp coming up, etc. He has exceptional size and strength for a point and is widely recognized as elite. He's very different from a frosh Vic, JBJ, or OG.

This is about what I expected for Ren early on, it's going to take him some time like virtually any incoming frosh frontcourt player to acclimate on the defensive end to the speed of the college game, to the sets and concepts / schemes IU / Woodson run, and to the conditioning college ball requires. I'm sure he'll get there, but the idea he would just come in and immediately play major starter minutes was a bit over the top imo.

Thank you. The stone casting get comical at times.

I don’t think we disagree, I’ve been saying we just don’t know yet how big his impact will be/how many minutes he’ll play and we just don’t. I also said as I think it’s clear he’s going to be good and will play significant minutes early, so not really getting all of this. No doubt he’ll play good minutes. But I do think some are discounting what JG showed end of last season and in the NCAA tourney and as a junior with another summer behind him. I will be very surprised if he’s not a major contributor

Thanks for the thoughts. Yes, I believe we do, but end of the day we want this in the rearview mirror and don’t want any more interaction with cops or the system. It turns out that Harris County (Houston) is - no really - 40,000 cases behind. 40,000. The system is a total mess, the ADA’s are routinely non-responsive (thank God a new, responsible ADA was assigned, the first did literally nothing for months), and really we are just glad it’s finally over. Moral of this story, everyone should tell their kids to avoid any situation with cops, you just never know what will happen.

Not directly related but further to our above conversation -- I am happy - very, very happy - to report that the charges against my son were all dismissed -- it took months after obtaining the body cam showing what he said was true, they arrested the wrong kid, and threw the wrong kid in jail, and subjected the wrong kid to months of being subject to a felony etc. -- but it's finally completely over with a full dismissal (a new ADA was assigned, and she had the charges dismissed within a week of being assigned).

Race is definitely starting, it’s not a “may” or may not. Ren looks excellent— but if you put a junior JG against those same HS players Ren just finished playing JG would destroy them. Easy to sit back and say Ren is better. JG is a monster athlete with 2 years of college ball and 1 in Woodson’s system and just came off a strong NCAA tourney showing. Meanwhile Race has all the exp in the world and returns with his demonstrated play against the best in the B1G. We just don’t know how quickly Ren will acclimate to the college game against junior and senior bigs, it’s a big step up from HS no matter how good the HS comp. I’m betting Ren earns good PT and early, primarily backing up the 4, whether it’s 13-18 min or 20 remains to be seen, and we def do not know that he’s immediately better, in B1G play, than JG or Race, I doubt it, but i’m sure he’s going to be good

Yeah, kick sand maybe not realistic but compliance should be (hopefully now is, no inside knowledge) working with the athletic dept / Bball program advising on the rules and grey areas, advising where there’s room and isn’t, instead of playing the “gotcha” role, antagonistic to the program, as it has in the past. And maybe it is now, with NIL, maybe it’s now a positive. Hope so, just don’t know one way or the other

He won the dunk contest, jumped over 2 guys for the dunk, easily the best dunk according to people there. So yeah, bouncy lol.
-
Naah, it’s 8 min no refs up and down for the crowd, other than a very limited look at how some guys looked with the ball (JHS / Bates) there’s almost nothing anyone can really draw from this
-
Yes. Probably read this forum
-
They list 8 — eight — other freshmen to watch and overlook Ren - a 5 star. It’s amateur
-
Kind of bizarre they completely ignore Ren But considering their discussion begins with the “ACC”…. Kind of amateur

Ah yes, Indiana State, the opening of the Archie Miller tenure.... Talk about writing on the wall lol.

I had no idea Olivia has that kind of temper — I’ll be more careful around her now :)

No dog in this back and forth, but chiming in on the big differences between college and NBA coaching - program building. It’s not that college is some special situation, it’s that it’s different in major ways from coaching pro ball. As a college coach you’re recruiting every year, almost all the time, rebuilding your team all the time with the same win now expectation, meanwhile you’re coaching guys right out of high school, sometimes most of the team, you’re bound by NCAA rules, you’re beholden to the U pres and admin, you’re a, often the face of the school and have to live your life accordingly. NBA coaches don’t recruit, that itself is a major difference, they’re coaching professionals, mostly grown men, all of whom are basically the best players in the world — they made the NBA, you’re not rebuilding your team every year, you’re not a face of a University you’re a pro coach answerable only to the owners and League

2022/23 Minutes Per Game Predictions
HoosierHoopster replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I’m not clear at this point how it will shake out, and I think Kopp’s minutes should decrease but am not comfortable Woodson, who has heavily emphasized veteran players so far, will cut them much. Assuming it’s X and JHS starting at guard/on ball (I am pretty confident JHS starts), Kopp could get more shots and WHEN he actually shoots he’s a good (not great) shooter so Woodson may just roll out mostly the same group but with JHS. I don’t want that, but can see it as a possibility. But, if Banks is actually ready for real minutes at the B1G level, then Kopp may share more with him, and I think maybe a small amount with JG when he gets some run at wing in a different look, faster and more athletic lineup. I’ll take a stab at it in order of minutes but just don’t have a good feel until I see guys like Ren and Banks in college games TJD X JHS Race Bates Kopp JG Ren Galloway Banks Leal Duncomb Gunn -
Bro, you’re on another planet, just drop it

Pretty solid looking, can improve his movement on release but pretty solid

Vonleh doesn't get much love here/from IU fans, for his one-year stay and how he (IIRC) limited play heading towards the end of season/draft, but he's carved out a fairly long professional career with several NBA stops and now he's at least potentially back. Good for him --

I honestly have no idea why you're pursuing this ridiculous argument. Right, newsflash, Vic was NOT a point guard, he was a 2/off guard, he was not a primary ball handler in high school or college, and you think that supports this ridiculous, senseless argument that he could barely dribble?? Why you continue this inanity is beyond me man. And I'm not buying you watched the team then, or you (hopefully) would not pursue this ridiculous argument. That's all I can stand, I'm out of this.
-
No, Vic wasn’t a point, that’s the point. And he wasn’t kept off the floot?? Did you even watch those teams? I’m sorry but this is ridiculous
