2023 SF/PF Mackenzie Mgbako to Texas A&M via Portal
HoosierHoopster replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Same thing has downgraded the NBA (imo). From once about following teams it’s now more about following players, and who teams up with who. Don’t get me wrong I still watch the NBA, the level of basketball, ability and athleticism is like nothing else, but it’s just not the same. Re the college game, it’s good to see the scales balanced, parity is now on another level, and competing against the cheaters just got a lot easier. But the flip side has lots of warts.Team building now a lot less about development (which i enjoy), recruiting now disfavors the high school players, guys you like will routinely leave for cha ching or more immediate playing time or other reasons, the “team” is now going to often be a bunch of different guys every yesr — they wear the jersey so they’re our college guys? Ok. Pluses and minuses for sure, not discounting the plusses, but my interest level is down at this point -
(2020) SF Jordan Geronimo to Maryland

This. And some very strong games in conference when Race was out. But that’s beating the dead horse. I’ll wish him well but like everyone else not when it’s against IU -
(2020) SF Jordan Geronimo to Maryland
HoosierHoopster replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yeah but we just don’t know what MD’s staff’s plan is or what is really driving him right now. It’s a team that can be good. He’ll have a chance to show and grow. -

Let’s get this going Mackbak Baking bako Bako -
Good notes, transfers for better programs or conferences for the chances and level of play that brings and / or family, though I imagine Gainey expects a significant role playing under his dad as an assistant
-
Just as a moment of levity, is anyone transferring not looking for an expanded role?
-
I’d just sum all of this up with - it aint over until the fat lady sings. Recruiting is ongoing. We have and will whiff on recruits. But that’s just the process, question is where we’ll be as we head into summer prep. Patience, Grasshoppers

^^ So can we start another thread? :)
-
Maybe he gets drafted in the 2nd round. Maybe. But he's not an NBA player. I can't fault Edey for going for it. Probably ends up overseas, where he can earn pretty good money playing professionally. (Assuming he doesn't come back.)

I don’t know the backdrop to the asserted “complaining” or “cheating” comments or if they even happened whatever they are, not weighing in on that though it strikes me as silly, but what you reference here is just fact, the whole NIL world is the wild west and it should be regulated. I don’t understand anyone who would say otherwise. Ok, maybe Calipari, Self

Talk about early, we don’t even know our team yet
-
Dang it I was about to start a 3rd thread :)

Where I am on Banks and Gunn is we really don't know at this point. Will they be developed and ready as sophs to play good minutes, on a team that we think is trying to develop its roster into a contending team? Just haven't seen enough of either to know at this point imo.

100%. No way is Gallo a 7 or 8 guy. I'm also in the camp that thinks that for IU to contend at the top, we need to improve our scoring and guard play and Gallo, as much as I like him (one of my favorites), is better suited to a 6th man role -- an excellent 6th man. Somewhat like a Sheehey. His outside shooting, though, improved significantly, his D and energy are usually top flight (though his aggressiveness still leads to quick fouls at time) -- first off the bench imo.

"With Berger, the Fever get strength, toughness, defense and playmaking at the point guard spot -- and someone who will bring in fans, as she was such a popular player at nearby Indiana University." https://www.espn.com/wnba/story/_/id/36154575/wnba-draft-2023-team-grades-indiana-fever-aliyah-boston Yep

Here’s to hoping that bears out. Ware is def a p&r guy and mobile that’s a real plus for me. Need to see how the O is set and who else joins.

LOCATED! The Holy Grail of IUBB Photos

Which is the real reason Bird left. To his credit, IT, after much effort, later prevailed on RMK to let him run the floor, and then came the NC. -

Yeah respectfully disagree. Rec ball didn't make him Larry Legend, he did. May have been good for Knight? Lol. -

Being honest, Bird would've become Larry Legend wherever he went. Transcendent player. -
Great breakdown

^^ And might as well change the thread title

Whatever, UCONN wins, I win my office pool and my partners have to all congratulate me and give me an official NCAA ball trophy while sucking eggs because Texas lost. I just can’t feel down . :)
