OSU schedule merchants? Lol, jk, kinda Seeing so many tide fan that have resorted to "Cig wishes he was Saban and has big ears!!" as trash talk. Hope we make them eat it for 4 quarters tomorrow.

Feeling very blessed to have had these past two football seasons where we've played multiple "biggest game in program history" ... and again, tomorrow is the biggest game in program history (so far). The way Cig normally responds to those comments "it's the biggest game because it's the next game" gives me confidence in their preparation after a month off. Really hope we put the nation on notice by beating Bama in front of a large IU crowd. Excited, nervous, all that...

Marquette is stinky hot doo doo. Blew a 10 point lead with 10 mins to go in the second half against SHU at home yesterday. Shaka probably gets a year to try and fix it or Marquette may be ready to move on. Brutal roster.

IUFB Recruiting and Transfer Portal Updates
Home Jersey replied to Lebowski's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
I think there will be a competition and Alberto would most likely stick around if he loses, since he'd have 2 years of eligibility still remaining. I just think the history with Cig runs too deep for him to portal out unless he doesn't start the year after next either. Which I doubt. JMO -
College Football Oversight & Compensation

"Taken advantage of" has a connotation that makes people uncomfortable. Nobody is saying the old way is the most horrible unjust thing ever. Simply recognizing one major part of the equation was leaving money on the table that they are directly responsible for generating. The brands are also important but they require good talent to win and draw support. If that weren't the case, the schools wouldn't be paying talented players. Right now, every player has to navigate the market for themselves with a lot of ambiguity. Collective bargaining is needed to establish guardrails for the market. The takeaway IMO is not to be 100% pro free market, it's that markets are only as good as their regulation. From a legislative perspective there's very little that can be accomplished IMO. Hence the need for a CBA. How we get there from here, not sure, but I'm confident eventually some investors will work with administrators to find a way. I also am sad that the golden days of collegiate athletics are behind us. RE: the part in bold, HS sports doesn't pay athletes (the ones who are paid are examples of real NIL). They don't get paid because HS sports don't generate enough interest. Largely because the players aren't that good. Colleges need to pay good players to compete. -
College Football Oversight & Compensation

Baylor's Scott Drew defends James Nnaji signing amid criticism "I'm a little surprised," Izzo told reporters. "I've got a call in to Scott. I'm anxious to see what he tells me. Not saying we're holier than thou or anybody should not do this or that, but if we're dipping into that one, if it's like I'm reading or hearing ... and now we're taking guys that were drafted in the NBA. If that's what we're gonna do, shame on the NCAA. Shame on the coaches, too. But shame on the NCAA. Because coaches are going to do what they've got to do, I guess.” Drew said Sunday that he spoke to Izzo and defended his decision to sign Nnaji. "Coach Izzo and I are friends. I've got a lot of respect for him. Great conversation," Drew told reporters. "As he said, most coaches are 99% aligned on things that we would like to see done with our game. At the same time, from my knowledge, until we get to collective bargaining, I don't think we can come up with rules that are agreeable or enforceable. Until that, I think all of us have got to be ready to adjust and adapt to what's out there. "Early on, when it first came out with G League players, I wasn't in favor of that either. But again, we don't make the rules and as we find out about things, we're always going to adapt to put our program in the best position to be successful, because that's what we get paid to do." -

My armchair opinion is that such an entity would probably only make sense for a few schools. Probably the big SEC/Big Ten schools and a couple handfuls of ACC/Big 12. All football oriented. Not sure how basketball would factor in. The other schools I think would continue playing in a much lesser NCAA that's also much less money-oriented. -

How does any entity like the NBA or NFL enforce a CBA with their players? I said in my post "who knows" what exactly a post-NCAA structure would look like. Not pretending to have all the answers. -
Whittingham may bring BYU's DC Jay Hill with him to Michigan. Hill is considered a big reason for BYU's recent success and gets a lot of credit as a football mind. Big Ten is stacked. Fitz at MSU, Campbell at PSU, Whitt at Michigan, Day at OSU, Cig and IU...

College Football Oversight & Compensation

The only solution to the current chaos is finally evolving from the impotent NCAA and forming some new entity that drops the false pretense of amateurism and enforces some sort of collective bargaining agreement with players. IMO. What that looks like exactly, who knows. And where that leaves the NCAA, who knows... but also, who cares? It's time.
