Congrats on finding a metric for this season where we totally blow Kensucky, Duke, Kansas, Baylor, UNC, etc. out of the water lol -

I hear that... flip side is, it's also kinda the same handful of dudes making the same points repetitively in a vacuum trying to convince people to see things the same exact way they do That's just message boards though! -
They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
Home Jersey replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm just impressed how this thread is basically being constantly posted on every 15 mins or less (except for like 2am-7am EST) - to the tune of 84+ pages in less than 2 weeks - on literally zero actual "news" lol -
I watched the first 8 minutes of the game at home. When I left to meet a friend at a bar down the road, we were down by about 4 points I think. I got to the bar just before the 4-min 1st half commercial TO and the score was as expected. Honestly, by the second half I was trying to watch any other game. It's been the same story all season. Nothing more to say than that. The errors of last offseason were so egregious in the way they've ruined this season, it's impossible for me to have confidence in the staff moving forward. It's that simple. Unless he decides to retire, Woody will get another year. Is what it is. Not the worst thing in the world....not great though. No sense in lying to ourselves that everything is sunshine and rainbows under his leadership. It kinda discredits people adamantly defending him so soon after such bad whoopin's IMO. Sure root for him, I definitely am, but I'm not going to act like we somehow turn a corner ever under this leadership. We've likely seen the peak and I am ready to move on. It'll probably be a season longer than I'd like. That's not being reactionary, just someone trusting what I've seen with my own eyes and open-minded enough to change my opinion based on new information. Everyone can have their own view... Basically 100 pages in the last 24 hours of the same arguments is really something though. Lol

I am so pumped for IUFB. Don't know I've ever said that in February before. 8 home games should help too. Definitely a path to a bowl game.

Indiana @ tOSU Tonight @ 7 ET Peacock Game Day!
Home Jersey replied to Dave from Dayton's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
You really have to wonder... Indiana Mr Basketball but sits for most of his career, hardly getting a chance. I'm glad he's making the most of his opportunities this year. Such a great kid, bright future ahead no matter what route he goes. -

Good luck explaining that to Woodson's daughter? Weird hill to die on -

Unfortunately some Twitter account "explaining themselves" in a situation like this is probably moot. Perception is reality in many ways. It's clear this season has taken its toll on Mike/his family. Great guy, Hoosier legend. Just want him to finish the year out strong and retire comfortably as a program ambassador. -
It's not very hard to see a worst case scenario where we only return Cupps, Sparks, Gallo, and Newton. Likely Malik too (I hope...) but that would be 8-9 spots to fill. 6 is still a lot. During the offseason, there was a lot of debate around if it's problematic to rely so heavily on the spring/portal. I tend to think not, if you're using it to plug a hole you have... But to build a cohesive roster that plays together as a unit with chemistry, I am concerned to say the least... I don't doubt it's technically possible you could find an entire team's worth of guys who are able to play together well... but I do think you're leaving an EXTREMELY narrow window of opportunity open for yourself, and have virtually no chance of being able to do that on a consistent basis. Assuming we have so much turnover that there are 6-9 open spots, there is absolutely zero way that Mike Woodson should be responsible for building next year's roster.

General Coach Candidate News
Home Jersey replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I like these 3 as a short list of reasonable candidates. Think all would be able to put a better product on the floor than we're seeing. -
Idk why you're asking me lol... I'm not very optimistic these days!

I totally agree for IU to be what we want them to be, he should be 6th or 7th man. It would actually be interesting to see what he could do elsewhere, I just think it makes too much sense on paper for him to come back... if for nothing other than continuity purposes/being a "known quantity" on a roster that will look very different next year.
-
If we can keep McNeeley committed, that group would have him and Reneau as starters. The rest should be rotation or bench players. Outlook is bleak right now.

Since speculation at this point is more fun than the games... IMO... Cupps: 99% Sparks: 99% Gallo: 99% Malik: 85% Newton: 75% McNeeley: 50% Leal: 50% Mgbako: 33% Ware, Gunn, Banks: 0% If everyone I listed 50% or over returns, that'd be 6 spots to fill with a lot of roster holes. Interesting recruiting cycle lays ahead

Your posting is definitely helping that happen. Thanks so much for gracing us with your presence. Your service will never be forgotten. -
Just laughing watching you go back and forth for the millionth time with someone. Have a great day Dan!

Do you have any hobbies aside from picking fights on message boards? Lol

The way UM won a national title, so OSU went out and spent upwards of $13M on building the best roster and staff they could possibly find... Seems like Hoosiers can only dream of our administration responding in a similar fashion. PU is at the top of the conference and we are not... and the admin does not care. We may catch lightning in a bottle with the next hire (more likely won't). But it's so disheartening to be a fan of a program/product that you know is being undermined/deprioritized from the top. How are you supposed to feel anything but apathy toward that kind of environment? Yesterday was definitely a low point in my time as a fan... and I've had plenty of lows over the years with IU Basketball. It's just getting tougher to believe better days are ahead.

I've seen enough. Normally I'd say that after getting us back to the tournament in back to back years after not having been for four years straight, he could have a pass for an off year. But this year is SO ugly and so full of the same issues we've seen throughout Woody's entire tenure that I've lost all confidence in our ability to actually be competitive with this staff. Sure, we will probably win a few more games here and there. Maybe even an upset or two. I hate to be harsh because I'd have liked Woodson to succeed here, but I honestly don't think the team could do anything else to convince me it'll be worthwhile to have a fourth season with this staff. The fact is, this team never had a chance because of roster construction. And it STILL has enough talent that it should be performing way better than it is. Woody's post game comments are particularly dry and lacking tone. Things are going to get ugly... I hope the admin spares us all the ache and pain after this offseason. Not getting my hopes too high though. All I know is I can't torture myself by watching many more performances like yesterday. -

Can Cignetti get hiring powers to build the basketball staff? -
Yeah, I think this sums up my view pretty perfectly. He looked undersized on the court, had some bad TOs, and athleticism does not seem to be there much. He was fairly forgettable this time out, granted MVA is a tough matchup for anyone. Now, that said... he did show some tenacity and hit a few shots over Cooper Flagg, so if you squint your eyes really hard, you can see the glimpse of potential IMO. Not so much that his offers make a lot of sense to me, though... but, I am not a pro at assessing talent either! I hope he comes along and develops well. LaLu was a bit underwhelming compared to Link/Brewster/MVA today. They play Brewster tomorrow I believe.

Some real crazy drama going on over there, apparently
