Indiana Players Now In The Portal
Home Jersey replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Good luck to these 3, hope they do well at their next stops. No info, just guessing for craps and cackles: Sparks - I'd like to see him back at BSU, get 1st team all conference and have fun playing ball again. Banks - I think he goes closer to home, no idea what his market will be. Best case for him, UGA/GA Tech, probably more likely a GA St. or similar profile school. Gunn - Not sure what his market will be either. I could see a best case for him of DePaul (Holtmann saw him plenty and I'm sure will need to land bodies) or Missouri maybe (follow in Tamar's footsteps?) ... Maybe more likely at a UT Martin or other OVC kind of school. -
Hinted as in that there is mutual interest or that they are likely to commit/visit? TYIA if you're able to clarify

My understanding is a recent court ruling determined that players can transfer 2x and still be immediately eligible. Effectively free agency. That's likely to change at some point (maybe?) but not this offseason

A "free market" is not always desirable or good. The freer the market ≠ the better the market. An appropriate amount of regulation is desirable, but also subjective. Free market discourse can easily turn political so I will leave it at that. -

Not singling you/this POV out, but I can't see it at all for next year really. I do agree it's an awkward lineup fit, pairing him with MM and a rim protecting five. But his post scoring can be elite at it's best and he made a big leap in the offseason this past year. If he makes a similar one this offseason, he could have a great junior year. You'd hope by his 3rd year in the system, he'd be better at making passing reads on offense and smarter about some foul trouble. I do not think the odds are high at all that we'd be able to replace MR with a player as skilled as him/knowledgeable about how this staff likes to do things. Especially when we are about to have so much roster turnover, I am valuing him very highly. Hope the staff is too. He was conference honorable mention wasn't he?

I saw flashes too... they just never seemed to build on it/put it all together/get put in best position to succeed IMO. After a game earlier in the year, Leal made some comment about "it's not that hard to stay ready" and being prepared which, to me, seemed directed at Gunn and Banks because they had fallen out of the rotation in favor of Leal. The team may not have quit on the staff based on the end of year win streak, but those two definitely seemed more tuned out IMO. I can understand why they would feel they did not have a fair shake/need a fresh start. Wish them well if/when they officially portal. -

I think it's fairly likely they'll both go somewhere else and produce more. I think Woodson killed their confidence with his rotations early in the year... I'm sure they could have also worked harder to "stay ready" too (they are who I assume those comments from Leal were directed at earlier in the year). We rarely looked like a team that was having fun this year. That's part of why it sucked so much. Fact is, Woodson himself said he couldn't "afford to wait on" those two to be ready this year. He didn't get them ready. Blame is probably not on the staff alone but you certainly can't absolve them of any. -
Bracketology and Team Resumes

Maybe an unpopular opinion but especially with the NIT basically becoming a shell of itself, wouldn't mind seeing the field expanded by an extra 12-16 teams or something... don't flame me guys lol -

Kentucky as a 3 seed is interesting. And their fans have been over Calipari for a while lol could you imagine -

I tend to think UConn would win that game by 20+ but maybe I am biased toward Hurley. Watched a good bit of both this year and just think UConn would be too tough to handle. I think Auburn is a very tough potential S16 draw for UConn though. Bad match up for them IMO, would really need to rely on Clingan and Samson Johnson. I'll probably pick Northwestern over FAU... but they surprised everyone last year too. Def not counting them out though -

Just clean house entirely and start over with nobody that has pre-existing associations with IU athletics. Don't think Dolson has done too bad of a job outside of basketball, but that's the big one... If he can't influence the stakeholders he needs to win over to get what needs doing done, tenure is on borrowed time anyway. This is the lowest point in my IU sports fandom, in quite a while anyway.

Yeah. It's not like he has to put out an official statement on IU letterhead. He could do something as simple as going on a podcast and verbally confirm the story/offer full throated support for Woody, in the course of a much larger discussion to get his talking points about other topics in too. The AD just needs to be visible, period -

Question was whether the outcome today comes as a surprise to him. He paused for half a second with a blank stare and said: "Yes. I had all hopes that we were going to win this game, and it hurts that we lost. So yeah." Shaky voice and blinking quickly... seemed upset -
