I was at Rutgers and watched this game in person. This team only tried on the last 2:00 minutes of the game. Really awful Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

I've seen him hit a 3 in an IU game this year, which is more than I can say about a lot of our team. I don't think he should start, but it would be nice to have him come in and knock down a 3 at some point in the game. -

lol Didn't Crean pull Matt Roth's Scholarship in favor of Jurkin? I was a senior at the time and thought it was dumb to pull Roth's Scholarship, but my friends insisted it would be better overall for the team to bring on a freshman that can contribute for four years than it was to waste it for one year on Roth.. Hindsight is 20/20 in his case. Would have loved his shooting against the Syracuse Zone. -
Inclined to Give Archie a Break

The only coaches I would even consider at this point is Eric Musselman, Chris Beard, and Brad Stevens. Having said that Musselman and Beard still have a lot to prove. I'm not sure if there's even a viable candidate to replace Archie at this point. Maybe another young superstar will emerge a la Brad Stevens. But I doubt it happens in the next 5 years. I still wonder that if Archie doesn't make a final four by year six, if we would then have a chance at Brad Stevens. He'd be 47 and have coached in the NBA for 11 years. However, I don't think Fred Glass knows the difference between a sneeze and a wet fart, so I don't trust that he was the right guy or will ever be the right guy to hire the right coach for the job. I also don't believe he should be able to make the next hire. Having said that, the only other coaches I considered during the Archie hire were Chris Holtmann, Brad Stevens, and Billy Donovan. Two of those are still in the NBA and Archie is pretty close with Holtmann both in their second years. Again, I think if we had a better AD and President I think our probability to get either Stevens or Donovan would have been better. I get that it was still likely we would have ended up with Holtmann or Archie, so we'll only know if we made the right decision after looking back on their careers at year 6. Additionally, I think that the two big issues with the basketball program have been McRobbie and Glass. Now I know most people will counter with "its not been them, its been the coaching", and I would disagree. I believe that McRobbie and Glass have intrinsically devalued the program and brand of Indiana Basketball.... There's no way around it, the extension should have never happened and Crean should have been gone after the 13-14 campaign. (the off-court issues coupled with lack of success was reason enough) That's Archie's Elite 8 year and we could have hired him then or even went after Brad Stevens. Then we could have recruited "Inside Out" and we could have a team this year with Kyle Guy, Kris Wilkes, and Romeo Langford. Then we would be a top 10 team and Final Four Contender. Instead we're doing essentially a complete rebuild that will take at 1 to 2 more years to see results. Hopefully McRobbie retires after the 2020 bicentennial and the board of trustees (does anyone know if we can trust them?) hires a president comparable to Mitch Daniels and then Fred Glass is on his merry way out the door. -

Was that Dayton team as bad as this IU team at 3s, effort, and free throws, etc? IMO he needs to make some changes to his coaching philosophie before he fields a team that can make it that far. -

I think Archie has to make some changes with his coaching philosophies before he would ever make it anywhere near the Final Four. -

Was Crean's program so bad that Archie, widely seen as a great coach by peers, is taking 2/3 years to build into something respectable? Were Crean's players and team perpetually overhyped? Or is Archie struggling to get more talented players (than what he had at Dayton) to buy in to his program? Is Archie wrong with his defense and offensive philosophies? How much is cleaning up the toxic spill that was Crean and Crean's culture and how much is Archie just hasn't figured out how to win in the Big10? -

Fred and McRobbie are safe until McRobbie Retires hopefully in 2020/2021. At that point we’ll have a new president and then Fred Glass can be canned. Does anyone know if the board of trustees are smart enough to make the right hire for the presidency? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Honestly I think Dakich would have been a better hire than Crean. Because Dakich isn’t going to do his own PR to help get a pass his first 3 years, therefore if he didn’t produce, he’d be fired pretty quickly, allowing us to hire someone else Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

To me, one easy fix would be to give McBob and Fitzner's minutes to Demezi and Clifton Moore at least then you have to respect Demezi's shooting and not sag off and then collapse down low at the first sign of a drive. The other fixes would be on defense.. Personally, I hate the pack line and wish we would just run a simple man- to- man with the occasional zone and occasional press. If these kids have been ingrained since they picked up a basketball to defend one way, why would you install a system that is similar but completely different? No before anyone says "but our defense is actually good!" ya, but so is Texas Tech's Defense, Michigan's and Duke's, and I don't think they run a pack line. Why are we not good, and why is everything with IU basketball just so complicated? -

I'd like to see some passion from this team. Very dissapointed in all aspects of the program after last night. I do think we'll turn it around and make it to the dance with a S16 ceiling. -

He has 2 of the top ten, and then the rest are the worst in the big ten. I think if phinisee, Davis, et all didn’t have injuries then we wouldn’t be as bad as we are Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
Stevie Boy Wonder Fired at UCLA

Can someone with info DM me what happened with Billy Donovan and why we didn't get him? I'm happy we got Archie, I just want to know how these things played out behind doors. -

Absolutely agree. Were we actually in talks with Donovan, or was that just a cover? Did he even have due diligence and talk to Holtmann? I assume UCLA will take a look at Chris Beard and Eric Musselman, but they seem pretty incompetent, so they will probably hire Jamie Dixon or Hoidberg. -

Was there a timeout by FCTC before the inbounds, only for the team to do a 3quarter court heave? -
Crean vs Archie can anecdotally be summed up by their performance at the Crossroads Classic: Crean losing what seemed like every year and dropping a game to butler on a last second shot, while Archie has won 2 years in a row and has closed out games down the stretch. Did Crean have to dismiss those players? Also, could a different coach have kept all the incoming recruits while not dismissing the players? I heard they had a drug problem, but it seems like a coach could have installed discipline... I get having his first 2 years wiped clean, but his 3 year he lost more big ten games than in year 2. That should be red flag 1 and red flag 2 should be when he pulled Matt Roth’s scholarship in favor of peter jerkin Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I think what solidified my mindset of “he needs to be gone” is when we played Syracuse in the ACC challenge the following year and we still didn’t look all that competitive. A great competitive coach would have been studying how to beat a zone all year and came back with a vengeance to embarrass Syracuse in the ACC challenge the same way they embarrassed us in the S16.... later after Crean was fired he said one of his bigger regrets was not hiring a PR firm to lessen the expectations of the program for the 2013-2014 campaign since he lost so many players... 1 roster management is on him, and 2 what great coaches at any other programs thinks like that? ... Fred Glass should have been able to see through the bull by Creans 4th year to know he wasn’t the right fit ...10 years from now his record will show that he rode D wades coattails to the FF and caught lightning in a bottle. Never again to get past the S16 Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
