As fans we don’t have much insight into the inner workings of the athletic department, but we leverage what we do have as an proxy for how the department is run. facilities are not a problem in a vacuum, but the fact that our practice facility isn’t anything special, combined with the thousand other micro aggressions (like uniforms/scheduling etc) it paints a picture that that the admin doesn’t know what they are doing or doesn’t care. Is there a specific person to blame? There’s probably a couple.. my question, have things been fixed, are they getting fixed? If no, who needs to be fired to turn it around? asking an insider

Well they are top 25, headed to the tourney, and over 500 in league play. I think IU would take those results. Woodson could and may be the long term answer (and for the record I like Woodson). Or we could lose our next 2 and miss the tourney for the 6th year. Time will tell. To me, it sounds like IU admin doesn’t know what they are doing…No A coaches want to come because of Admin, so they hire B coaches, and B coaches don’t enact institutional changes to be a top program, so the admin rinses and repeats. I watch the IU games, but I don’t want to invest a ton of time if IU has no chance to ever win big because of the deficiencies I mentioned earlier.

The assumption here is that in the reach out to Beard you say, hypothetically the Texas job is open and the Indiana Job is open, do you have any interest in coaching at IU… that way you mitigate your risk… had Beard said yes then left for Texas, IU is embarrassed, yes, but what would have happened next? we would have ended up with Woodson…. i’m just confused at to why IU wouldn’t touch Beard. which asks the question. Do the people internal to IUBB know what needs to be done to be a top program?

IU self reported… There’s been a few podcasts that detail IU wanted to fire him and not pay his buyout and IU thought that they could go out and get anyone they wanted. Ended up blowing up in their face. We need to start playing the likes of Gonzaga, Duke, UNC, Texas, Kansas, Arizona, and others if we want to be a top program. Our best/toughest game o our schedule can’t be against Purdue UK scared to play us? I believe they offered to play a neutral series and Glass kept saying no. Glass wanted home and home or bust…. I don’t care if UK wants to play on the moon, those games are so much fun. Make it happen you think it’s a total Crock that Stevens would have came to IU? This is before going to Boston… name your source if you firmly believe it’s a crock how is this a strange post? The podcast came out today, they asked one of the top CBB writers his take on IU and if Woodson was able to bring us back to where we want…. Reasons were things like facilities, admin not spending any money, this smug attitude etc… my question was can a coach fix everything, or is it on the admin to do so?

I just finished listening to the Hoosier Hysterics Podcast with Jeff Goodman. A few things that stood out to me: -IU maybe could have had Brad Stevens before he went to Boston but they didn't pursue + extended Tom Crean -IU doesn't spend the resources in order to be a top program like Duke. UNC, or Kansas -IU didn't reach out to my top candidate Chris Beard -IU doesn't have the same level of facilities as any other top programs -There seems to be a general theme that IU administration has this holier than thou smugness and moral high ground to where they want to "Virtue Signal" to CBB that we run a clean program and won't touch certain coaches like Chris Beard or certain recruits My question is, and has been for 10 years now. Is this a Coach issue, is this an Athletic Department Issue, is this a donor issue, or is this a Board of Trustees issue? With the right coach - can the coach fight to build a top practice facility in the country, (even if we just spent money renovating the one we have), can a coach go after and change the department to be a national power? Can he get the UK series back? can he fix some of our scheduling issues? Or do these fall on someone else? ----My Opinion based on some conversations with friends is that Woodson isn't the wrong guy for the job, he's just not the long term solution. so we're likely going to be in this scenario in about 5 years when Woodson is 68/69yrs old.

Late to respond... Is there still a B-Town Banners phone App? Can you or anyone else dive deeper into the organizational dysfunction? Any specifics on structural, cultural, leadership? What needs to be changed? Is there someone in position that can fix it? Is the organization aware that it's dysfunctional? Who do we blame for letting it get this bad? (please be Glass lol).

Reminds me of when Crean took an upper decker in Kyrie Irvings house. I hate to be negative. For the record, I hated Crean and hated Archie, but actually am patient with Woody and think he'll turn it around.... Having said that... This program has been pretty dysfunctional for around 20 years now. I keep preaching we need a total brand rebuild. Here's to hoping something positive happens.

Well I can't say the officiating is helping, can't say our uniforms or facilities are helping. Probably need a complete rebranding, plus mix in some newer talent. Two Questions to ask: Looking back in time, what would you have recommended IU do? never hire Archie, fire Crean sooner, keep Sampson? What are you recommending IU do now to get the program to championship caliber?

So we reached out to both and both said "No"?... Full disclosure I've been public about my dislike for Glass. Wanted to know if it basically was that IUBB was known throughout the inner workings of college basketball as a clown show because of the administration and thats why coaches don't want to come here. Also wanted to know if thats why we have literally no culture/leaders/identity

BBall Non-Coaching Program Improvements
southernindianahoosier2 replied to Bowhunter's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Ya he wrote an entire manifesto on what the uniforms at IU should look like. He said that no sport at the school should have names on the jerseys and they freaked out. His idea was the 5 stars on the back of the pants. It honestly doesn’t make sense because the tops don’t match the bottoms and the cut of the jerseys isn’t what the cool/good programs wear. I’d also like to point out that I tried to find a powder blue LEO quarter zip from adidas and can not find one. Which is sad, if this were a Nike school they’d be all over the LeO branding and pumping that nationally. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Isn’t that because Fred Glass designed these uniforms? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
