  1. 82-75 FWB. Furst ended with 17. #34 for FWB went bananas (Caleb Ferguson, maybe?). Anyway, he had 37 points. Kid named Sam Smith from Northridge had 30. He shoots without a conscience. Entertaining game. I’m out! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  2. I definitely wouldn’t want him handling the ball against a press against B1G competition though. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  3. 65-49 Blackhawk at the end of the 3rd. Northridge has continued to press and FWB has brought Furst up to 3/4 court to receive a pass. He has broken it with the dribble a few times. Always going toward the basket. Has resulted in a few layups and at least one foul. He has 15 and about 10-11 boards. Maybe 5 assists. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  4. 38-33 Blackhawk at the half. Furst with 9 points and about 4-5 rebounds. Northridge has a 6’5” kid in him who is playing admirably. Every time Furst catches the ball in the post they are bringing guards down from the elbows to harass him. Blackhawk is running the unguarded players down the opposite side of the lane and Furst is doing an excellent job of seeing the court. He has found them for about 4 assists and at least two that should’ve been. The 6’5” kid from Northridge made him look silly once in the post once. Good shot fake which totally fooled Furst off his feet then the kid just easily went around him for a layup. I also haven’t been at all impressed with Furst’s ability to challenge the smaller kids driving into the lane. Finally, he has a very soft touch around the rim. Like buttah. He has had to bring the ball up against a man press a few times and has good handles for a kid his size. Trying to think of a comparison. Elston, maybe? Eric Anderson? I might only be saying their names because they are like-sized white dudes though. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  5. I decided to drive across town and watch Furst and Blackhawk take on Northridge. Tip-off in about 15 minutes. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  6. Agree with your assessment, however I would’ve been happier at 9-3. How often does that happen for IU football? I would take 9-3 and the Pinstripe over 8-4 and the Gator. I don’t want it to sound like I’m unhappy about 8-4 though. It’s been a great season for the Hoosiers! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  7. And they played either a 3-2 or 2-3 zone for most of the game to mitigate their lack of size. I couldn’t get a gauge on his on-ball defensive skills but he didn’t stand out defensively the short time they were in man D. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  8. I went and watched him play Noblesville last night. It was a benefit night to honor his father who was killed in a farming accident this last summer. Tony Etchison had a lasting impact in both communities and the place was packed. Anyway, for a breakdown of Gus’s game, he plays much like I envision Luke Brown playing, although Ive never watched him. He is 6’ and 145. Skinny kid. He has excellent handles and can shoot, but not one of his jump shots came off an assist. He shot off the dribble and has a really smooth stroke. He appears very comfortable driving in the lane. NHS isn’t huge inside but they have a few 6’5” guys who can jump. Etchison was able to maneuver through there with not much difficulty and finished well. He would kick out often and he seems very unselfish. It was driving me nuts though because he was leaving his feet to throw passes constantly, but he was accurate with them. IMO he isn’t a B1G player. Too small. Driving in the lane at his size wouldn’t be good. I told my wife during the game that he clearly isn’t a great athlete in the classical sense, but you can tell the kid lives the game. He’s the prototypical gym rat. I could see him playing for the Sycamores, but that would be his high water mark. Possibly could play for one of the lower MAC teams. Keep in mind, I am far from a scout. I played the game and consider myself half-knowledgeable. I could be way off though. BTW he ended the game with 24 points.
  9. Hopefully this little funk allows us to sweep in and get him committed. I just don’t see how we can back off this recruitment at all unless you sense it might be an attitude issue more than a just being “off” issue. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  10. Have to say this thread is depressing me I really only started fishing half-@$$ seriously last summer but for the last few days it’s all I have been thinking about now that deer season is about over. I guess I’ll wait for the thaw but it seems like forever away. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  11. It’s absolutely incredible that you posted this. I first heard about the Abilene Paradox in training two days ago. What are the chances I hear about it twice in three days after knowing nothing about it for over 46 years? BTB always delivers! (Sorry, USPS...) Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  12. I was at the senior night when the dunk assist happened. He was giving his speech and ended by something to the effect of, “I know many of you are wondering if I can in fact dunk so I’d like to put all speculation to rest”. That’s when he went down to the north basket and I thought Calbert and maybe Greg Graham lifted him up to dunk. Pretty funny. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  15. I think at the beginning of the season most on here would’ve been alright with 20 wins coupled with a tourney appearance, and I still would be. However, in spite of the performances the last few games, I still believe we can do a little better. If we can improve like we did the last handful of games last year, and do it earlier, I think we will be in some games that we currently don’t think we would be in. 16. It’s so ironic that you listed Justin as a cornerstone. It’s a testament to his maturity and skill development that we can fit him into that slot. Last year at this time we were wondering if he would ever be even somewhat dependable. Kudos to him! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
