(2018) PG Darius Garland to Vandy
rcbowla replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Ok with the whole CB pick outrage: Andrew Slater is from the "Devils Den" and 2 of the other Vandy picks were also guys from the "Devils Den". Then the other 2 of the 5 are from "Future 150". So I honestly see 1 maybe 2 guys getting either a tidbit or a hunch and then a total of 3 or 4 others just following the leader. Really wouldn't get too worked up over those silly CB's guys. -

(2018) PG Darius Garland to Vandy

For what it's worth I don't take your comments as being "pessimistic" or "downer". I take them as being cautiously optimistic and keeping expectations in line with reality. Kids are kids and they live in the moment more often than not. It's even possible he goes to UCLA and has his socks knocked off by them and they all of us a sudden become the leader just like we did over the weekend by surpassing Vandy. Moral of the story is we don't know what these kids will decide to do because I'm not sure they even know what they're going to do. I am hopeful and confident but I'm not going as far as some and believing it's a done deal. -
(2019) PF Matthew Hurt to Duke

Hopefully Hurt picked up his own tab!! I assume that's still a rule on an unofficial anyhow? Though I think there are bigger fish a fryin right now. -
I think in their line of work it is clearly a challenge to keep integrity while all around you people are taking the easier and more fruitful route. I agree we shouldn't pat a man on the back for covering the bare minimum of their job. However, this particular profession may be the exception to that rule as I'm sure many fans will be wanting to place a foot on a different body part of their coach once this is all over. Again let me be clear that I'm not suggesting he did nothing wrong.
-
Oh I am by no means suggesting we are out of the woods.

So with most of this stuff being done through assistant coaches would it be safe to assume that the head coaches have been having assistants do the dirty work to be able to keep plausible deniability? Or do assistants reveive some kind of bonuses for recruits they land? Hence giving them the motivation to pursue these avenues.

Wonder how much of a negative impact from a recruiting standpoint Sean's involvement will have with Archie. It certainly doesn't help but just how damning can it be?

I hear a lot of Crean bashing through all of this. He was an awful "in game coach" that much is true, however if we come out of this clean then I think we owe him a lot more gratitude than he's getting. If he in fact did run a clean ship and we have nothing to worry about through all of this then he would be responsible for the opportunity given to IU to make a serious resurgence. Now if there were issues then all bets off and hammer the man. Just think we should lay off the cracks on him for now.
-
Am I the only one extremely hesistant to believe IU comes out of this unscathed? I want to believe it but at the same time I am trying not to be naive. Someone tell me why I shouldn't be worried.....anyone. I do believe Crean ran a cleaner program than a majority of "power 5" schools but I'm still skeptical.

If so I would hope Schilling wasn't involved.

I hear ya. Only one I can think of was the chant for Reggie Jackson in that it didn't seem premeditated. And that's why I don't like them generally. I think a loud roar of applause and cheering would be more bone chilling to me if I were a recruit. JMO -

I feel that the only time a chant sounds good if it is a 2 syllable name. For instance the well known "Reggie" chant worked. I don't feel like a "Ro-me-o" chant will sound good. In general I do not like chants either as they feel forced/disingenious being that hundreds will join in just like sheep. -
(2018) PF Jake Forrester to IU

He's a "3 and D" player with good length, adequate athleticism and good defensive versatility. He'll get a shot somewhere I think. -

I suppose that's a possibility. However, I still think he'll be here. I guess I was thinking more along the lines of a transfer situation. -

Why would Morgan want to leave after this season? He will be a featured Senior on a young and talented team. Also his skill set really would seem to fit into Archie's system. Not understanding the speculation with him leaving. I believe Morgan will finish his college career at IU. There are a number of others that I'm not so sure about however. -
