For sure. But refusing to pull over and running a stop sign…not good guys. Again, I get everyone wanting to give him a second or third chance. He’s one of our own. But me (my opinion doesn’t mean a thing lol) I’m just tired of it. The second chances didn’t work out with Hanner and Emmitt Holt years ago. Is it a coincidence that when IU got rid of those two from the 14-15 team that they made a Sweet 16 and won a big ten title that next year? I’m just big on culture. Clearly those two had a negative impact on the culture. Hate to say it, but it sounds like X may have a negative impact. Who is to say X won’t put one of our incoming freshman in a situation like Emmitt did with Thomas Bryant? (he deserved blame too) Get guys here that’ll do the right thing.

Ok, let’s say he was going, say 65. Avoiding police is pretty serious. And then on top of that changing seats…
-
Eh… shouldn’t be hard to prove he was going that fast. Dash cam? Surveillance footage from businesses? Remember with Ruggs (Raiders player) multiple cameras caught him going that fast. I get what you’re saying. But again, he shouldn’t get a slap in the wrist for this. We all need to take our cream and crimson glasses off. This isn’t good.

I totally get it and you bring up good points. Ultimately I’ll trust Woodson and side with whatever he wants. I’m all in on him right now. If he lets X stay, then I’ll root like hell next year for X and hope he grows up. I just see people talking about Mark Few, Banchero, and Gillis getting away with what they did. That’s all BS I 100% agree but I don’t care. I care about Indiana. Not Gonzaga, Duke, or Purdue. I’d like to root for a team that has their players doing the right thing and holds them accountable. Which is why it was sick to hear about what went on during the Sampson era.

I side 100% with you. He’s about to be a 5th year senior. He should know better. I don’t want IU to repeat what happened in 13-14 and 14-15. What Yogi and Stanford did was stupid. But they didn’t put anyone at risk and they were much younger. Yogi grew up. I still think Holt and Perea should’ve been kicked off the team as soon as their first issue happened. It’ll be interesting to see what Woodson does.

Details from the report aren’t exactly great guys…really disappointing to see some fans (not on here) act like it’s no big deal. Going 90 on a street and avoiding police shouldn’t be a slap on the wrist. I like X and he’s probably the number 1 guy I want back on this current team over anyone (even Trayce) but as someone said earlier, when is it enough? Not like he’s some freshman. He’s about to be a 5th year senior… he’s supposed to be the leader of this team. Is this the guy IU wants in that role? I do believe a huge reason the 13-14 and 14-15 teams struggled was because of all the off the court issues. Culture of the program wasn’t good. I’m sure there is a lot more we don’t know about either. If I had to guess, I think X is gone. Maybe both sides “mutually agree” a change is best. Idk. If Woodson suspended him and others for curfew (I doubt that was the first strike too), I can’t imagine how this will go down. It’s time for him to grow up.

(2022) PF Malik Reneau to INDIANA
HoosierFan1994 replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm not sure why, but even if IU loses Trayce I feel the program will be fine. I obviously want him back. But I get the feeling if he does declare they are going to go after Malik Reneau hard. If Race leaves put Geronimo in his spot. Program still needs to get a consistent shooter. -

I'm sure this was said with the '12 and '13 classes that were overall a disappointment minus Yogi, Troy, Hartman, and Vonleh but the '22 and '23 classes I think are leading this program in the right direction. Multiple guards who can shoot and handle the ball. An athletic 4. I'm extremely excited. All these games this weekend will come down to guard play. That's what has held this program back the last 5-6 years. These guys are all going to have a massive impact right away. I think JHS is a day 1 starter and CJ Gunn gets some minutes as a freshman. Malik could start day 1 depending on the roster. But, like you said, I don't see any 1 and done players. Lot of 3-4 year guys. -

I'd be surprised if IU gets him if Trayce comes back. I can see him starting right away at a lot of the other schools recruiting him. Not sure if he and Trayce could play together at a time. But man, this kid is going to be good. Thought he was the best player on the court today. Just solid all around. -

I'm going to say it...I'll be sad if Trayce leaves. BUT, if IU can land this kid...I'll be very very happy. He really impressed me today. Sorry if it's the wrong thread to say this. -
Super pumped for this kid. Love the way he pushes the ball up and down the court. I don't think he has the best freshman season ever but I can see him getting 8-10 PPG and 3 ast. I love how he was the leader on this team. That was a pretty stacked team. Yet he was the glue guy. I hope he can be that for IU. Also hope IU can get his buddy Malik. They had great chemistry together. I think Malik is a day 1 starter at the Power 5 level.

Who knows lol. This is around when he did last year. I just know that if it was a done deal or even remotely close for them to be leaving I’d sure hope the staff would’ve reached out to more than just the Ball State player. Duncomb would be our only big man at the 5. -

Keeping track of players IU is after in the portal, the vast majority of them are guards. IMO this speaks well to Trayce/Race coming back does it not? Also speaks well that this staff is looking for a shooter. -
247 says he could possibly play/guard the 1-3 spots. I'm excited for this kid. I don't think he's a one and done talent, but I think he could get 10 pts and 3 ast as a freshman and really take off as a sophomore. I'm team play him and X at the same time. The last 3 National Champions played multiple point guards at once. Kansas kind of does it. UNC does.

That would make me very very happy but still would like to get a proven shooter. Even if it's in a Zeisloft like role. -

Yes. In order to work out for NBA teams they have to declare. That's why I'd be kind of surprised if he doesn't declare just to see. -

Considering he has 3 years left of eligibility I can see him staying and seeing what happens next year. No matter what I think he at least sees close to 20 minutes. -

IUBB Players in the Portal/Draft Exploratory Status
HoosierFan1994 replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think Trayce has the toughest decision on whether to stay or go that I’ve seen an IU player have to make. Some have him as a mid second while others have him going undrafted. While the anticipation would suck, I think he should at least declare and see where the process takes him. If he does do that, I wonder what that does to Race since it appears if one leaves so would the other. Trayce technically could wait until June 1 to make his decision if he declares. While I don’t think he’d wait that long, (IMO if he declares he’d probably make his decision as fast as he could-maybe a couple weeks) I don’t think the staff would wait for Race that long. -

Ohio State wouldn’t be a bad fit for him. They have a good freshman class coming in. They could use some seniors. A random group of schools for sure. -

Did some looking at the Big Ten rosters. There are some guys that are 50/50 if they leave (Ex: Eric Hunter, Zach Edey, Michigan's freshman and Dickinson, Michigan State's frontcourt, Kofi, Trayce/Race) If Trayce returns there is no reason this team can't compete for a Big Ten Title. Big Ten will be as weak as its been in a while. I think Michigan State and Michigan are probably 1-2. I'd put IU in the class with Illinois, Iowa, and Purdue for 3-6. Ohio State won't be terrible but they'll be young. Rutgers loses their two best players but may return everyone else. Wisconsin looks to take a step back, but it's Wisconsin so who knows. Bottom Line: The Big Ten has been difficult the last 4 seasons. If this program is going to make a jump, it's next year. -

Yeah regardless if everyone comes back (I think IU loses one more) there is an open spot. It needs to be spent on a proven shooter. Even as much as we all liked Kopp coming in, he had one season where he shot 39% from 3 and the rest were 31% and 33%… need someone that consistently hits 40% or more. How I feel about Bates next year is how I felt about Geronimo last year. I think he deserves more minutes but I’m not penciling him in to start just yet. If IU doesn’t land a proven shooter I feel it really limits this teams ceiling. I’d like to see a grad transfer guard that can shoot play over Bates next year. Then, as a Junior, Bates takes over. -

Trayce did announce around the Final Four a year ago. If I’m reading this right we may hear about Trace first and then see the domino effect between Race and Geronimo. -

No I get it. His history shows he knows stuff or at least is credible. Could be something. Could be nothing. Just thought I'd share. Would love it if a certain big man decided to come back for his 4th season.
