IUBB vs Minnesota - 1/09/22 @ Noon on BTN
HoosierFan1994 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Dakich said it best on his show yesterday. Indiana has to be able to put big wins behind them. Archie's teams couldn't do it. Big test tomorrow. This is a game this team should and needs to win. In fact, we are going to learn A LOT about this team tomorrow and next week. Two road games. This team has to be able to win road games. So far 0-3. If they can have a nice 4 game winning streak heading into the Purdue game January 20, I'll feel really really good about things thus far. They'd be 14-3 overall 5-2 B1G. Who wouldn't take that? That being said, one game at a time. But this has been the point in the season the last few years when things turned south. Huge opportunity ahead. -

This. It's why I don't like all the yapping on Twitter and the vlog's and other things. They haven't accomplished anything yet. -

That's my biggest problem with the Colts at times. I kept yelling at the TV last night to get the ball to Trayce. -

Which unfortunately is most of the Big Ten. He is going to have to figure it out. -

Bingo. That was my biggest worry before the start of the season. These kids while I guess are talented have never won at the big time level of college basketball. I don't think Kopp has even played in the NCAA tournament. Don't think he was there in 2017. -

I'm starting to think Archie begging him to graduate early in 2020 was his hail Mary chance of staying long term at IU. He saw the writing on the wall that things weren't going well. -

I always thought the same thing too. I live in Evansville and have seen him play multiple times. I thought he was the kind of kid that could be a pretty good college player. Never saw 5 star. My thing about this year is that it is supposed to be his actual freshman season. Yet he is sitting on the bench. I do think he is worthy of playing time (10-15 min), but he is no 5 star. -

I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan. I was born in 1994. I missed the glory days for both IU and Dallas. The Cowboys are the NFL's version of IU basketball IMO. They were 6-1 this year and now 8-4. Enough said. You just know they are going to choke. -

Which as we all know is Wisconsin's bread and butter. Hats off to them. I remember the Davison kid getting hype after cutting the lead to like ten. That's still a lot but you could tell he knew they would win. That is what we need at IU. I know we all can't stand him but still. -

It was a horrible call no doubt you are right. It went from being a 14 point game to a 10 point game in a matter of seconds. But if these guys were lost mentally after that...we are screwed. They were still up 12 points. You find a freaking way to win. -

He most certainly can. I'm hopeful this is a team that can peak in February and March. I've said all along my expectation is to get in the tournament and win a game. I still think these guys can do that. Should that be the standard at IU? NO! But when you haven been to the tournament since 2016 that's where you have to start. My biggest question mark is consistent PG play. I love the good Xavier Johnson. By far the best PG since Yogi. But the bad Xavier is no better than what IU has had the last 5 years. Super talented kid but plays outta control. I think Rob has looked awful this year considering he's their most experienced player. -

What is frustrating to me is this Indiana team I think has way more talent than Wisconsin. -

I think you are right...you have to end that game there. Also I pointed this out after but there was one point where he could've had a loose ball and didn't get it. It was out on IU and Syracuse scored when Indiana should've had the ball. The game changed after that point. I may be making a big deal about it but that was huge. IU was up like 4 at the time and Syracuse went on an 8-0 run after that second chance. -

I agree somewhat. I like this team. But they have some bad trends so far (can't finish games, slow starts, scoring droughts, free throw shooting, turnovers). -

I totally agree. Anyone who disagrees go read about Jimmy Johnson. Took a 1-15 team to the Super Bowl 3 years later. As a coach you have to change the mindset of your team. I'm sure there is a college basketball coach you can compare as well. -

I've been a massive Lander critic. I don't think he's anywhere near as good as he was hyped up to be. That being said I don't get why he's not playing. I've been somewhat impressed so far this year in his growth. I think he's good for 10-15 minutes a game. -

This was ugly guys...As excited as I was about Coach (still am) this is unacceptable. I don't understand how your All-American doesn't touch the ball down the stretch in this game. Sad thing is even up 22 points I knew this game would somehow come down to the wire. Why? Because we saw this happen against Eastern Michigan and St. John's. Never did I think IU would actually lose. Awful trend going on with this team...1) Not being able to finish games. We saw this against Eastern Michigan. You can get away with that there. Not on the road at Wisconsin. 2) Slow starts. Saw this against Northern Illinois and Nebraska. Again, you can get away with that there. Not on the road at Syracuse. Both have one thing in common...long scoring droughts. We saw this with the previous regime and we are seeing it now. If you want to set yourself up for success in the NCAA Tournament, you're going to have to win on the road. Zero clue how or why Woodson let Johnson take control. That just can't happen. Awful, sickening loss. Right now this is not a tournament team. I know a lot of you can't stand him but Dan Dakich is right...win something before you start running your mouth. Our best win is against a borderline NCAA team at home against St. John's. -
Purdue is the obvious number one. Outside of that the B1G has been disappointing. Michigan, Illinois, OSU, and Maryland have been not so good. IU, Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Iowa look better than expected...it's early. Not saying it will happen, but Indiana could be the second best team in the B1G. Time will tell.

I thought he was fine. He's learning. He's not a guy that's going to play starter minutes yet but he's close to passing Rob for me. I did get upset he didn't go after that lose ball. Think it was 101-97 at the time and Syracuse scored. In my head I thought that was the turning point...not blaming him but it would've been nice to have had the ball and extend the lead.

Not a morale victory guy..but dang, way to fight through this. In years past it seemed this team would get down early and just quit. It's hard to beat a team when they make threes. Syracuse has a very good backcourt. I think they are better than their record is. Can't turn the ball over 26 times like Indiana did. My thoughts.. 1) Find me a better college basketball player than Trayce Jackson-Davis. He is a grown man out there. SO glad he is okay. I thought he was done at first. 2) Lander gave good minutes. Yes, he made mistakes but still. 3) Kopp and Stewart showed us what they can do. Well done. Their confidence will only go up. 4) Race almost had a freaking triple double. 5) X has to stay out of foul trouble. 6) Why no Geronimo?? He barely played. After the Seton Hall game I thought he'd explode. I hope this team is better for this game. This is why I think all college basketball teams should play a road game in a tough environment before conference season starts.
