Just a fun guess on the roles our guys will have: Starters Xavier, Parker, and TJD. Question marks on the last two spots. Trayce should be a Preseason All-American and a favorite for the NCAA POY. Xavier and Parker could have All-B1G potential. Bigger Role Geronimo and Lander. Otherwise I think they both transfer. Not sure they are starters but I think they see at least 15 minutes a game. Decreased Role/Youth Leal, Galloway, and Duncomb. Of those three Trey probably sees the most minutes with Duncomb second. Leal and Galloway are all for the program (stated they were staying no matter what when FCAM was fired) so I think both are fine with a year of a lesser role. Dumcomb will see minutes but I think TJD and Race see the most minutes at the 5. Question Marks Phinisee, Hunter, and Thompson. All three have a role at this moment. Rob's started for three years. But does Woody throw a 6'1 guard out there with 6'3 Johnson and 6'5 Stewart? Eh, not as a starter. Maybe a 6th man role. Hunter is probably projected as a starter right now. Has ideal size. That being said I can see the staff bringing in a more talented 4. Not sure he sticks around because he would probably see less minutes than he did a year ago. As for Race, he has to develop a three point shot. Same obviously goes for Trayce but obviously he has more strengths to his game than Race. I can't see the staff throwing both Race and Trayce out there if one of them isn't a three point threat. As of right now, neither is. I think Race would be a lot like Rob, perfect off the bench. As for the last two spots, I see a 4 and a 6'5ish guard who can come off the bench and knock some threes down. My "wild card" to start next year is Geronimo. Not impossible if he improves. My predictions Starting 5: Johnson, Stewart, Geronimo, Transfer 4, TJD Bench: Phinisee, Thompson, Lander, Transfer or Fr. SG (6'4 to 6'6) Plays Sparingly or as needed: Galloway, Duncomb, Leal If my predictions are true I unfortunately don't see Hunter staying. I hope I am wrong. But again, I think somebody is going to be unhappy. Just not sure who.

Mike Woodson and His Coaching Staff

It's been stated but I certainly think our last two spots are going to be guys Yasir is bringing in. I hope they are starters. Xavier, Parker, and TJD are the only three I think are for sure starting. Question marks on the others. It's going to be a fun offseason. You want to play? You're going to have to compete for it. I think one more player will most likely leave. Somebody is going to be unhappy. I feel the previous staff just gave guys their spots based on the previous year. That shouldn't happen. one last thing: I know it’s a big boy profession but I’m glad to see Mike Is keeping young guys like Walsh around. I’m not sure if those guys really impact wins and losses but they are young guys trying to get a start in this profession. I always hate it for those guys when a coach gets fired. They most likely did nothing wrong. -
Could his injury have hurt him more than we think? Maybe. I was excited for him, Romeo, and Phinisee. Romeo was an obvious one and done but Hunter and Phinisee I thought would be All-B1G players.
-
If I had to guess right now, Woody is going to go ten deep. I'd say 7-8 guys will see 15 or more minutes a game.
-
Yes. I'm just not sure if he's a guy that will play as much if he doesn't get any better-especially defensively. It doesn't matter what I think though it's what Woody and the staff sees. If what @Chris007said is true about going after a stretch 4 I can see his playing time dropping hence him wanting to transfer somewhere and play more. I think that is why Brunk left. He usually plays around 20 mpg. No way was he getting that this year. He would've been lucky to get 10 minutes a game. Same could be true for Hunter. I hope not. I think Jerome is a solid role player who can come off the bench and hit a few big threes a game. Just not sure he's the top 50/60 recruit we all wanted him to be.
-
Have to think the only other player could be Hunter. The rest have said they are returning. I can see a situation where if they bring in a stretch 4 type player he may feel over recruited. I hope they can hang on to him.

Means more time for Logan Duncomb. I'm excited for him.

Early Big Ten Projections (2021-2022)

This would be the year for them to do it. B1G isn't as deep this year. Figure Hoiberg eventually will get them on the right track. -
Early Big Ten Projections (2021-2022)
HoosierFan1994 replied to IUc2016's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think right now Purdue, Ohio State, and Maryland are easily the top 3 (assuming Liddell comes back). I'd put IU and Michigan State at the 4-5 spots. -

lol enjoy the ride for another few days to a week. After the 3rd assistant and one more transfer there won't be a whole lot happening between now and the beginning of the season. With Gunn committed for 2022, I feel Woody may go after Washington and Smith and that's it. 2022 class will be small. He will work on 2023 probably this summer. But yes, since IU blew that lead to Michigan State at home it's been a busy 1.5 months. -
Agree with guards. Get a guy with some size that can play the 3-4.
-
Interesting. Any UK fan I know goes "you guys can have him" in regards to Keion. Probably said the same thing about Juzang lol.
-
The biggest IU news of the day wasn't Race Thompson or Armaan Franklin...it was our buddy Pat Shoulders leaving the IU BOT in July lol..
-
Well said. I hate that he's leaving but he's going to a really good program. They're a top 25 team every year and will contend in the ACC. He did the best thing for him.
-
I added Armaan and it goes from 19 to 18. So his system doesn't see this as big of a loss. Who knows. Can't add Keion for some reason. Not sure I see Brunk and Galloway contributing as much as the system thinks.
-
I think Johnson and TJD are the only two I'd put money on to start. You are right. The rest will be determined over the offseason. Race 100% starts if he develops a shot.
-
I'd throw Brunk in there as well. I don't Brunk, Trey, and Leal getting the minutes they have had in the past.
-
My starting 5 based off the current roster that is probably going to change again at any moment lol... PG Lander G Johnson G Stewart F Hunter C TJD Bench in order: Phinisee, Race, Geronimo playing the lion's share of the minutes off the bench. The other get minutes based of situations and needs.

2 spots left...crazy

Xavier Johnson - Commits to IU (PG)
HoosierFan1994 replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Not going to lie this commitment feels different. I just feel Indiana has missed these kind of kids in the last decade or so. I think to win in college basketball you have to use the transfer market. Pretty sure all final four teams had a kid play a significant role that was a transfer. I’m a big NFL fan and it’s important to build through the draft but you need free agents to fill your roster. In college basketball it’s huge to have great freshman classes. But you need a transfer every so often. At the top of my head I can’t name too many transfers that were pretty good at IU (Evan Gordon, Bielfeldt, Zeisloft). I’d argue Xavier is going to have much more of an impact than these guys. Still need to add some more pieces but with the core of TJD, Xavier, Parker, And Lander this is a decent group. -

If this team can get one more dude that can play they in my eyes become a second weekend in the NCAA tournament team. -
If this kid can cut down on some of his turnovers and improve his three point shot a little bit man what a player IU is getting.
