(2022) - PF Kaleb Banks to Tulane
HoosierFan1994 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Probably shouldn't have said huge. I project him to be the 8th-10th guy range. Play 10-15 minutes a game. Hopefully shoot in the high 30's as far as three point percentage. I don't think he gets passed due to work ethic or anything. Just other guys are going to make a jump. It's possible all 4 freshman are better than him right now. -

Agree. I mean no disrespect to Miller Kopp by saying this but if he's starting and playing 20-25 minutes a game this year we have a huge problem. I still think he plays a huge role this season. I get why people have him in the "projected starting 5" for next year since he is returning. But man I just feel someone is going to pass him. Could be Kaleb. -

If what Race said comes to fruition, he's going to see a lot of minutes. Maybe even more than Malik given his position. EDIT: Would love to be a fly on the wall in practices/workouts. Competition has to be insane. Some really good players aren't going to see a lot of PT. Outside of X, Race, and Trayce nobody has earned any spot. Maybe Jalen? Kopp might get the nod but I have to think someone passes him on the depth chart given the potential. -
2013 Big Ten season was as tough as ever. You had IU, Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Wisconsin all legit. I think IU played OSU, Michigan, and Michigan State on the road as well as home. They won all the road games and lost to only OSU at home. Ended up winning the Big Ten outright. Point is if this team is as good as we think, they're going to do just fine. 100% agree too..so glad to avoid Madison.

This freshman class just knows how to win...Jalen and Malik won a national championship. CJ played at Lawrence North. They were very close to winning it all. Pretty sure Kaleb's high school made the finals multiple times. Add that in with the '23 guys...Cupps team won state. I think Jakai's made it pretty far. I know it's high school but I love guys who have a winning DNA...I think it played a role with Hulls, Zeller, and Yogi. All won state.

Race's comments about Banks has me excited too. IF what he said is true, he's going to see a lot more playing time than anyone thinks.

Haven't been on here since mid-May as it's been a busy month with buying a home/selling ours and vacation. Inside the Hall had a really good article on the Big 10 next season. For fun I'm going to take a stab at predictions: 1) Indiana- Yes, I'm a homer. But on paper (Doesn't mean anything once the season starts in November) it's not even close. IU should be the unanimous pick to win the B1G. Trayce will battle Dickinson for POY. Entirely possible that X could be the best PG in the B1G (who else?). Race could be an All-Big pick. Good freshman class and solid glue guys. Shooting is a big concern. 2) Illinois- Don't see them as a huge threat but Shannon and Mayer were nice pick ups. Skyy Clark is my early pick for FOY simply because he is going to do more than Jalen and Malik. They will be a young team for the most part. 3) Michigan State- Solid core of Walker/Hoggard in the backcourt and Hall/Hauser in the frontcourt. Some decent freshmen coming in. Feel like they need someone to make a jump and be an All-B1G caliber player. 4) Ohio State- I really like this team. Good mix of transfers and freshman. They have the highest ceiling outside of IU IMO. I think Holden could be 1st team All-B1G good. We wanted McNeil. How much do they get from their returning guys is the key. 5) Michigan- Diabate and Houstan leaving was the best news IU fans have had this offseason outside of TJD returning and Malik. Dickinson may be the B1G POY over Trayce since he does not have as good of a surrounding cast. They have to rely on their incoming freshmen and some of their sophomores. Another transfer running their point. 6) Rutgers- Sucks Harper didn't come back for them. Would probably be #2. Solid trio in McConnell, Omoruyi, and Mulcahy. Transfer guard coming in will start. Question is who picks up the slack on offense. 7) Wisconsin- Sorry, I refuse to believe they fall off. Don't see them as a top 25 or even close to it. But they have solid returners in Hepburn, Wahl, and Crowl. A couple of transfer guards coming in too. It's Wisconsin. I just believe in the system. They probably somehow beat IU too. In Madison. On a BS call. 8) Maryland- Kevin Willard isn't the greatest coach but he had Seton Hall in the tournament and turned their program around. Solid Transfer in Young. Add in a couple of their returning guys (Scott especially) and they might surprise people. 9) Iowa- They lost a lot with Murray and Bohannon. They didn't make up for it in the portal or the recruiting trail. They will be solid but nothing special like last year. 10 Purdue- Bozich had them at #4 in his poll. What's to like about this team?? Frontcourt will be solid with Edey, Gillis, Furst, and Kaufman-Renn. Their backcourt? Morton (rotational player), Newman (fell out of the rotation last year), Loyer (Top 100 recruit), and Smith (3 star). Unless they add someone in the portal this is not an NCAA Tournament team unless a couple of those guards improve over the summer. I don't get the love with this team as it stands. 11) Minnesota- The duo of Battle and Garcia will be interesting. Not sure they have enough pieces to be much higher. 12) Penn State- Really like the coach. Have a lot of seniors. Like Minny not sure they have enough to pass some teams. 13) Northwestern- Had Nance returned this would've been an interesting team. Boo Buie is the best name in the B1G. 14) Nebraska- A complete dumpster fire. Postseason wise IU is the only team I think could make it to the Sweet 16. Illinois, Michigan State, and Ohio State I think are top 25 teams. Michigan and Rutgers are NCAAT teams. Wisconsin probably gets in because they are Wisconsin. Maryland is borderline. Don't trust Iowa or Purdue this year. Woody is my COY. Dickinson for POY. Clark FOY. Think Trayce is an All-American. Race and X All-Big guys as well. A big reason I'm high on IU in the B1G is this: They are the only team in the B1G that will be better. Even my 2-4 teams aren't better than they were last year. I'm not sold they are a National title contender. I think Sweet 16 and if things go right or a key player develops maybe Final 4.

2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection
HoosierFan1994 replied to Five Prime's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
With the roster being set, this will probably be the last post for awhile as the summer months is when things quiet down...unless a recruit commits. Trayce is going to be a preseason All-American/favorite for B1G player of the year. He clearly got overshadowed this year by a lot of players in the B1G. I expect probably the best season an IU player has had since Vic or Cody. Both Xavier and Race here honorable mention All-Big Ten players. Can they become all league guys? I think in order to have a very good team you need one guy who is one of the best players in the country and another two who are the best in their league. I don't think it's a reach to see both guys make the 2nd/3rd team All-Big. The trio of Bates, Galloway, and Geronimo is going to really tell a lot about this team. Bates had a "disappointing" season if you base it off his top 30 ranking. However, he was ranked around 50-60 for most of his prep career. He really did show a lot of promise. Galloway has to develop some type of 3 point shot. Dude needs to get 500 shots up a day at Cook Hall. I can see him being an all-league bench player. Geronimo has to do what it takes to be able to play the 3. I think he's one of IU's best 5 players. Question is will he start? IMO the #1 question surrounding this team right now. Not sure what kind of role Miller Kopp will have. Trayce said in his Hysterics interview he could see him shooting 40% or more from 3. I just don't think he can play 25 minutes a game if he's not shooting/scoring. He's the biggest wild card IMO. However, I think the starting job is his if nobody can take it from him (which could be good/bad depending on how you look at it). The biggest topic of the off-season is if Jalen will start right away. Based on what I've read I think so. He fills a huge need and you can play two 1's at once. Not sure he has a B1G FOY kind of season but I can see him being the 4th/5th best player in his first year (kind of like Yogi). Trayce coming back most certainly decreases Malik's role in year one. I think we will be looking back in a year (thinking OG his first year) and thinking he didn't play as much. But with Trayce/Race I don't see him getting more than 15 minutes a game. I don't expect much out of Banks/Gunn. In fact, it might be a good idea to redshirt one of them. Leal is wildcard #2. I can see him getting minutes if he can consistently knock down the shot. This team needs somebody to fill a role like Zeisloft/Roth did for IU. I can see it being him. I don't see Logan making much of an impact once again. But, I can see him contributing as a Jr/Sr. Unfortunately outside of the seniors I'd put him at the top of the list as guys that I think will be gone next year. We will see what happens. B1G wise there is zero reason IU can't compete. With an unbalanced schedule I can't say that they HAVE to win the B1G. I expect a top 3-4 finish. The conference is going to be really down this next year. Right now Michigan is the only other team that looks good and even they might lose some guys. Nationally I can't have IU in the top 10. This team was a 12 seed for a reason last year. If not for a second half comeback against Michigan they are an NIT team. I think top 15-20 is reasonable. For this team to compete for a national title somebody has to be that knock down shooter. Still, I'm excited for this season. I can't stand Hoosier Hysteria but I might even go this year. Can't wait for the tough non-conference schedule. Even if IU wins 1 of the 3 big games, it's still a good test early in the year. I hope all Hoosier fans have a great summer! Hope they get a big name to add to the '23 class! -
Really good interview. Eric and Ward are awesome interviewers. I'll have to listen to more of them. Some items that stood out: 1) I really like Trayce is wanting to change the direction of the off-season workouts. I've said this a zillion times on here but I remember reading how Hulls, Victor, Sheehey, and company were so sick and tired of losing they worked their you know whats off in the gym the summer before the 11-12 season. This team has to have a great summer. Somebody has to become that knock down shooter for this team. The 3 that really need to improve are Bates, Galloway, and Geronimo. If they reach that "next level".... 2) I think the postseason success gave these guys the boost or kick in the rear end they needed. Was it a major postseason run? No, but winning two B1G games (the way they did it) and an NCAA Tournament game (yes, it counts) gave them the success they needed. 3) Trayce isn't here to mess around. He's back to win a B1G title and make a push for the national title. I certainly think that the B1G title is something that can happen. However, not 100% sure this is a national championship winning team just yet. I see second weekend right now. Extremely excited for next season. Trayce has the potential to be one of the most beloved Hoosiers of all-time. If he can lead this team to a B1G title and a final four I don't think it's far fetched that he would be the best IU player since maybe Calbert.

2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection
HoosierFan1994 replied to Five Prime's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
This offseason will be fun with projecting the lineup. To me, the only given spots are X, Race, and Trayce. At the 2, I think it is between JHS and Tamar. For the 3 I think it's between Kopp, Geronimo, and Tamar. Trayce's return (which really isn't surprising) hurts the minutes of Malik and Banks for 22-23. In fact, it might not be a bad idea to redshirt Banks IF and only if he's not going to see significant minutes off the bench. I think he's a high end talent and I don't want to waste a year of his eligibility. Not sure how he sees the floor unless injuries hit. So since we know the roster for 22-23 here is my first pick at the rotation Starters X JHS Geronimo Race Trayce Bench Tamar (6th man), Galloway, Kopp, Reneau (no order between 7-9), Banks (10) I have to think Geronimo is one of the 5 best players on this team. Therefore I think he wins the 3 spot. JHS really impressed me while watching him this year. I think he is a day one starter. I also like the idea of starting two guys who can run the point. Tamar ends up as the 6th man. Not the biggest Kopp fan but he is going to play. In fact, he probably is on the 1st team to start workouts/practice. Unless someone takes it from him, it's his. -
Extremely happy with the news! Not surprising. In fact, I was more surprised last year. I am sad though he didn't get his chance to showcase his talents at the combine. That being said, if he can improve that mid-range game I think he gets drafted. Trayce has to be the B1G POY favorite with Dickinson. Preseason-All American as well. Side Note: Trayce was an All-American in 2021 (IU had a losing season). He wasn't this year. Doesn't make much sense...

Mike Woodson and His Coaching Staff
HoosierFan1994 replied to Hoosierfan1901's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Jordan Hulls is exactly the kind of person we all want around this program daily. I love this move. I remember reading about how tired he was of losing his first two years at IU. He started really holding the team accountable in the off season workouts. He was a huge part in IU having two extremely successful seasons in '12 and '13. IU hasn't had a lot of guys like this since he graduated. -

Per Rabby on Twitter..Hulls is the new director of recruiting. -
Insert Caddyshack "We're waiting" GIF. I've said all along I think Trayce is just leaving little hints that he is coming back. If he was gone he probably wouldn't really care.

Based on the early preseason rankings my guess for the ACC-B1G is UNC (top 4 team) or Virginia (top 25 team). Personally would like to see IU play a top 25 team at home, away, and a neutral site. Looks like we are getting that next year. Glad the Non-Conference schedule is beefing up.

It doesn't help that USI is going D1 too. They have a really nice facility out on the west side. UE needs to hit a home run with this hire. Not sure the city can really support two D1 teams..unless they both win.

Jeff Goodman is reporting Crean is a name to watch..I know a lot of Evansville fans have been obsessed with bringing him in to coach. Honestly think it would be a good landing spot for him. I'd go to some games!!

Oh for sure. But I think it has an impact. Come back for one more year... Indiana SHOULD (key word here) be pretty good if he does come back. He would probably be a B1G POY favorite and a pre-season All American. Get some NIL money. AND finish up your degree. Potentially improve draft stock. If he doesn't improve his midrange game I unfortunately think he will be a borderline draft pick. -

I really want to give Coach Woodson and his staff credit for keeping guys like Jordan Geronimo, Tamar Bates, and even Logan Duncomb. I feel like in some programs those 3 would've been gone. Geronimo probably would get more playing time at a Providence or a UConn. Bates didn't necessarily live up to his "ranking" as a freshman and could have left much like Collins at Michigan did. Same with Duncomb. Instead, it appears all 3 have bought into this program. I think Geronimo and Bates see a much bigger role next year. In 23-24 all 3 are going to be crucial for IU. I remember after the 12-13 season Abell and Creek left. I feel (and did at the time) had they stuck around for another year that IU would've been way better off. -

I bet there are some guys in the portal who are willing to wait until June 1st to make a decision. Not saying this will happen but if Trayce does leave who knows maybe a big man would really want to come to IU and something would be worked out real fast. -

If he got a combine invite it probably won't be until after it happens (May 22). If he didn't get an invite (which I think he would know by now) it could be anytime. -

HoosierFan1994 replied to Five Prime's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Sounds like combine invites went out over the weekend. Sounds like they have a few days to accept. If I read it right they invite 60 players for the NBA draft combine and 40 from the G League. If Trayce got one (which I think he will) his decision probably won't be made for another 3 weeks.
