Schedule wise I think this makes sense. Crossroads 2K or Maui like tourney ACC/B1G Gavett Challenge(some years were not gonna be in) Home-Neutral-Home with Zona 4 team switch of UK, U of L, Nova saves Cal from an excuse of not too many good teams and doesnt stack us with potentially 4 top 10 teams each year wouldnt mind it though Mid level SEC team SMU, WSU, Dayton or VCU That is 6-9 great games each year. Both of you guy get it. It wasnt about winning the press conference. He did certainly IMO but not because of saying and acting the way most want him too. His demeanor seemed like he just wanted to get to work. The way he talked about basketball in general excited me. He wasnt trying to make people like him either. I loved when he said I didnt recruit these guy but I tokd everyone of them their MY guys now. We finally have a true leader and someone who knows what it is to be a basketball player at a high level. I am all aboard the Archie train and absolutely love this hire. I cant wait for basketball season and am very excited about what we can do regardless of who stays or goes. JBJ is very interested in staying. Doesnt mean he will but he knows he is a 2nd round or Yogi route to the NBA. The chance to become an all time great Hoosier is pushing him closer to staying than leaving at the moment. He will test the waters though. I feel this is best route as well. Gives him enough schollys in 18 to really put his mark on the program. Mark Smith, Waters and Tucker along with Kostas, Wright and Xeryius Williams are the only guys I would want to come here young. Maybe an impact transfer kid. Your right about the pressure. I just hope his daughter gets to enjoy the next 5 years of school with no nasty comments made to her. Home school would be an option but they shouldnt have to do that just because. None of us will truly know how easy of a transition and how the move and living in the area will be. I am pretty sure in Dayton every fan loved him so it is gonna be a whole different level. Big bro and Cal will hopefully have him somewhat prepared for it. Honestly I am thinking about moving out of town but my son is happy here so it makes ot hard. If it was definitely better of a situation I wouldn't hesitate. Not saying it would not be hard. One thing I will say though is if you go to Archies twitter he is VERY involved in her life. Being at a school like IU I feel like it will take time away from her with him but she is getting to the age where she just wants to hang out with her friends lol. Good timing IMO, but I did think about that after seeing his twitter page. Pretty much 1 of 4 post are about her or of her. Brad Stevens wasnt coming here. It didnt matter how much we offered. Maybe 12-15 million a year gets it done lol but still. The Boston Celtics are now tied for 1st in the East. Have young talent and a star in Isiah. A borderline star in Horford. Money to go get another one. A top 5 pick coming. Ainge is already talking about a raise/extension. The Celtics and the Lakers are the Dukes and Kentuckys of the NBA. Once Popovich retires him and Erik Spoelstra will be far and away the top 2 coaches as well as Steve Kerr but at this point he don't really have to coach. He is in a big sports market that will lead to endorsement deals in the future. Yes he could get some here but not the ones that he can there. If anyone is still skeptical about Archie just remember this. Billy Donovan was at Marshall for 2 years and didnt make tourney either year. We know how that ended. Mike White coached 4 years at LTU. Won regular season title 3 years but didnt make tourney. Made Elite Eight and looks like their gonna be good for awhile. Jeremy Fowley was interviewed the other day and he said results do matter. Both the guys he hired had success but sometimes you look at a guy and see the talent and the potential. It doesnt always work out but some guys just get it. I feel like that is what Glass did with Archie but obviously Archie has had way more success than either Donovan or White did before UF. We can use Knight and Coach K too, but those stories are old. This was the best quote i saw out of all of it from Fowley. "A big name is nice but how many big names start to flame out after 5-10 years. There are maybe 5% of guys that truly become generational coaches. That is why I will always feel more comfortable by seeing how players respond to the coach, seeing his improvements and success and how he handles criticism. A name can always be made. At first you have to work harder than others but it isn't that hard if you get the right guy." I feel like this explains Archie coming here to a T. We will find out in a few years but this guy has all the intangibles. Seeing Wright's reaction when he heard he left shows the impact he has on kids. Belein is the only guy that I regret us not getting on that list. Pitino is a truly phenomenal coach. Develops players 1-12. But he comes with too much baggage. Him and Jurich are a perfect fit and that is the end of the story. All Mike Davis did was what 100% of the people would do in his spot. Assistant with no head coach experience and at a program like IU. He said it best. Should have been Texas Southern, UAB, IU. Instead it went the other way. Rick Bozich just said a source told him from DAY ONE of search that IU was not interested in hiring Gregg Marshall and Chris Mack. Speaks even higher volumes of how they perceived Archie. I believe it was him or Bennett realistically. Alford and Billy D may have been discussed but one we decided not to pursue the other wasn't interested. I think most of us see that. He was under ranked coming in. I would have made him top 75. Idk about 5 star. Newkirk, him and I am sure Archie brings a kid in at the position too will all compete for the spot. I trust whoever gets it earned it as neither Green or Newkirk are his guys so. Exactly what I was thinking. If I am there for another cpl days do I really wanna see updates constantly about the guy/program. I knew McSwain was on board after his first tweet. I am excited to see what he can do his final year. Archie has turned worse players into great ones than McSwain. He has the ability. I think he will be a rotation guy next year.
