As a teacher, I'll take most of today's kids over a lot of their parents. Think it's even worse when we are talking about basketball parents. There is something to be said about recruiting a good player with parents who stay out of the huddle than great players whose parents want to be in it. Ultimately, that might have been the problem with Romeo.

At this point, there are guys that previously I would not have been enamored with that I would now be fine with coaching IU. Dane Fife would be one. That said, I'm still not a guy comfortable with Steve Alford. There are lots of shady things I could possibly look past, but what went down at Iowa is not one.

Let's not be revisionist on a statement like 'everyone wins at Dayton' to diminish what Miller did do there. They went to four straight tournaments under Miller when they had only been to four in the previous twenty-four years before that. They went to only their third elite eight and first in thirty years under him. His winning percentage there is better than any coach in the last fifty years. They were independent until 1988 and won two conference titles under Miller....the only other two they ever had in the other 30 years were shared titles of the western division of the A10 when it was split in divisions. You can certainly disparage what he's done here but the run he had at Dayton was not the norm there.

Yep, he wasn't better than anyone else on the line. Keep the gems coming.

They were a year apart, so it wasn't an either/or thing. Gelon was the typical Crean had an open scholarship (or sometimes not) so throw it out on a whim of a guy playing a couple of good games. Lots of guys he did that with which is how we got stuck with Priller. I saw Gelon and Stefanovic play in high school and it was clear that Gelon wasn't a D1 talent, much less a Big Ten player.

So overrated that 10-3 Iowa took him in. I'm amazed that we ever ran for positive yards and our quarterbacks didn't get sacked ten times per game given your opinion of the line.

Hopefully Stanford transfer Dylan Powell is able to step up and grab a starting OL spot. Powell says he was recruited to play guard but he's played both guard and center and says he is fine with whatever spot IU wanted him to play him at.

Not everything is as black and white as you want it to be. By your logic, every offensive lineman on the team could transfer and it wouldn't make a difference, because hey, 'they were bad'.
-
Haven't seen this posted here. Obviously not as big a hit as the Crunk or Ramsey transfers as he would be behind Scott and James next year, but the number of transfers when a guy falls on the depth chart is mounting up. That's three running backs that are transferring from IU since the beginning of the 2019 season.

A weak line losing their best lineman is hurt more than a good line losing their best lineman.
-
That rule is out of the window for grad transfers.
-
I remember when he said that he wasn't going to use them on a grad transfer unless 'it was someone who could have an impact'. I know Chris has alluded to the administration being difficult in allowing grad transfers coming in, but I don't know how you couldn't have viewed as any grad transfer capable of knocking threes down -- even if they couldn't do anything else -- as not providing an impact. And if they came in and couldn't contribute....what was the harm?

I'm sure that it had a lot to do with the fact that they had probably tried to do it once before against Ohio State and that they probably felt that it wasn't ever going to be a case of where they could certain how it was going to go and that with the 1980 team coming in, it was as good as any other day to attempt it. Unfortunately with his current mental state that its good that -- as someone else said here -- it's simply over. The band aid was ripped off and hopefully if there are times when he is up to it, he can be around IU without the production.
-
Yeah, it's simply not a good situation. I had said against Ohio State when it was rumored he would be coming and didn't that dementia doesn't take days off. You can't schedule good days and bad days. While we all would like to see him for us, I hope that there are times when he is more lucid that he can come around more behind the scenes.

Hunter and Franklin 3pt shooting
RaceToTheTop replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm just not sure that 37% in high school with the closer line is something we should hang our hat on. I hope he continues to get better but I'm not counting on him being the shooter we need.
