General Coach Candidate News
RaceToTheTop replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I was on the same lines......I never understood the Woodson hire but didn't feel the need to pile on. Gave it a chance. Thought that the issues the first year could partially be attributed to the roster makeup -- NIL not totally in full swing yet. But after time passed and continued to see he never changed the approach and then also saw players leave and then look better elsewhere while players who came in looked worse than they did prior to coming in -- it was obvious. It was a nepo hire. I think you would also agree that there are multiple answers to who the next coach is that can work out. You watch more college ball than anyone and know there are numerous guys that can succeed at IU. -

It was a joke. But there is some truth in it. We can worry about doing the same thing in four years and hiring a new coach. But the truth is that we there is a history where you are doing it a lot sooner with Chris Beard. Beard is a high ceiling coach but the floor is low as well because of other factors. -

The only true time to panic is when @Uspshoosier is panicking about our hire. And Usps never panics. No matter what is said on a message board, who the hire is isn't going to change. There are a lot of good coaches out there. Some just don't have the same name recognition. -

McCollum 30 wins is more wins than Chris Beard had at Texas in two years. Well....if less than two years. -

With zero resources and playing the second half of conference without two of his best three players, it’s a victory that they made the BTT. -

So we are going to judge his ability when his 11 seed team half full of D2 players goes against a 6 seed? Truth is whether he wins or not, it's a one game snapshot. -

Nebraska had an OT game this week that would likely at least temporarily put them in the field. Brutal end to the season. -

Every time I worry about an elite coach getting IU to the promised land, I remember that both Mike and Hubert Davis have been to title games. Now, those kind of coaches won't consistently do that but it does show that roster construction is huge. If Woodson could have just constructed the roster wisely, he'd probably be here despite having bad X and O skill. -

If we can't have a guy that is a great coach and recruiter, which would you rather have -- a great X and O coach or a great recruiter? I'll take the X and O guy at IU because money is a pretty good recruiter. -

I would take Pitino Jr over Alford. That's not an endorsement at all, though. -

In terms the dig about IU’s ‘expectations’…..I don’t think it’s high expectations asking for 6 million results from 6 million NIL -

To answer that question, it would have to be seen. But I do question your take on the take on Drake…his continuity is with D2 players. And if it were just continuity, MVC teams would have caught up by the end of the year. -

My amateur take is that IU is currently the last team in which would make them the last team on the bye line. Would depend on how they compare IU to Oklahoma, IMO. Both teams at 19-12. Numbers are very similar. Personally I give the nod to IU as Oklahoma had six games against teams with NET of 300+ while IU had one. Just my opinion, but only playing three quad four games opposed to Oklahoma's seven should mean something. If that is the case, any bid stealers knocks IU down to the first four unless IU were to win at least a game in the BTT. For USPS's sake, I hope IU is off the first four lines. -

I believe IU actually has three quad 1A wins -- Warren Nolan lists road games at NET 1-40 as quad 1A, so the win at Ohio State would qualify. IU's NET moved up from 56 to 52 yesterday.
