Fair. Good way to think about it. Wait, if these helmets become traditions and I favor changing the traditions to a new tradition that would be based on a classic style that never became a tradition. Am I a traditional modernist or a modern traditionalist? -

This'll be it for me because I don't want to take this thread way off the rails. But, with traditions there are pretty much two main ways to form them right? You can have some really good experiences and want to hold onto them and recreate them or you can just do something and keep doing it. Our basketball traditions are from the first category and we think it makes them more special, maybe it does. Ohio State has some from both categories, things like the Senior Tackle are just cool ideas a coach thought up. That applies outside of sports too. If you go to Christmas in Naples one year and have a great time, you might decide to make Christmas in Naples a family tradition. But, you might also decide to make Christmas at your Aunt Joy's farm a tradition because you chose to do it one year and then chose to keep doing it even if it isn't all that great. Anyway, you end up with two schools of thought and neither are wrong. Some people are traditionalists and would like to see the development of traditions to help form some kind of identity. And some people are modernists who prefer to have a team be able to react to changes in the times. I'm just a traditionalist about this stuff and would love to see some visible football traditions. And I said neither was wrong, but people who say we should put names on the back of our basketball jerseys are absolutely wrong. -

No? If we stuck with one helmet we would have a tradition. There's no reason to think traditions make better teams. We're a school very proud of our basketball traditions but unwilling to form football traditions. I like traditions. -

Well, you can't build a tradition if you're constantly changing. I guess we're trying to be hip and new instead. -

For the most part yeah, some logos are... however they paint helmets. But, you can make the stickers look not bad and place them so they look like part of the helmet. Someone mentioned Purdue and they do a good job with theirs consistently. Even the one with the giant train on white looks sharp and intentional. Rather than try and blend the background, they made the background contrast on the edges so it minimized the sticker look. I just think they look cheap and chintzy. I'm also a tiny bit salty because this is like our 9th helmet design. Why? Why do we need more helmets than Wilson's career Big Ten wins? I'd rather pick one classic design and stick with it than changing it up all the time. Works for Ohio State. Who put actual stickers all over their helmets and still manage to look less stickery. -

Yeah, but you think Sarah Jessica Parker is the hottest woman alive. No one trusts your aesthetic opinions. -

Our meh helmet design. We aren't even going to try to avoid the air holes and make the decal look less… stickery hunh? I mean, it’s pretty slick because script Indiana is pretty slick, but they all kind of end up looking like a Pop Warner team went by the sticker shop to jazz up their old helmets. Like, the background "white" isn’t even the same color as the helmet. It reminds me of the cream jerseys the basketball team wore that one game. Great idea, look great independently, but then toss a white t-shirt underneath them and you start to wonder who didn’t do jersey laundry. -

If we can upset anyone this season, it's Iowa this week. Everyone knows how down I am on our program, and even I believe there is hope here. If the team plays as well as we did against OSU we'll handle it nopraw. If we just play at non-conference level we have a very narrow shot. We just can't play like the team that has been around the last few games. -
I'd rather have Max than Holt but I think Holt at least had the potential to be a better player. But, it's really hard to tell from a single scrimmage and without ever seeing how Holt developed over a summer. Max brings experience and leadership we sorely needed however, his ability to help direct TB is more valuable than what Holt would bring.

ESPN article on Crean 'feeling the heat'
MartintheMopMan replied to Naturalhoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yeah, it's definitely nothing unique to Crean. I mean, for all the discussion we have of Howland there's an example. He was getting results that would be fine most places but weren't fine at UCLA. He additionally had some problems off-the-court. So, they decided to go another direction. The cost of coaching for a high-level-school is you'll have high-level-expectations, coaches are smart enough to know this when they take the job. Crean is certainly aware of the expectations placed on him and aware he has not been meeting those expectations. And whomever takes over after he is gone in a few years will be aware too. (A few years because while I do think his seat is still hot, he can delay drastic action with a good showing over the next couple of years. Enough to appease. I think short of at least a National Runner-up, he will not receive any additional extensions, and towards the end of his contract, probably end of next year, maybe 2017 at the absolute latest, he'll be let go.) -

Smart. Any desirable recruit should avoid signing as long as they can. Verbal is plenty since it allows you to react to any sudden changes on the team without having to rely on the grace of being released. -
Indian Hills won 109 to 68. No box score available because apparently the community colleges aren't good at updating their website. I had to use 7 seconds of my 90 second boxcast preview to grab the score.

We're looking for coaches in poor health? Jerry Kill.

Indian Hills Community College in Iowa (largest corn producers in the US). They play their first game tonight at 7 pm central if you want to tune in! It's available on "Boxcast" for just $6.95. http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/25293386/former-indiana-f-emmitt-holt-transfers-to-indian-hills-community-college

Yeah, technically. But, Indiana corn is less frequently going to leave the state. Iowa is by far the largest producer of corn anyway with over double of Indiana's production. Indiana is more of an animal farming state. Pigs and chickens I think. But, they do produce the fourth most bushels of soybeans in the country, and it's Indiana's highest rated crop in terms of production so... that's all I've got. I always said the most Indiana drive ever was connecting to 69 through Martinsville where a big field of soybeans was on one side of the road and corn on the other.

State of Recruiting/Do Rankings Matter?
MartintheMopMan replied to MartintheMopMan's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
He's been to 5 sweet sixteens and 3 elite eights since he began which is hard to argue with even though you're right. Miller has had more than one Final Four/Runner-up level team in there for sure and been unable to finish. Though, two of those losses came to the eventual champions, and his 3 best to Big Ten schools, what what! The talent level he's bringing in though is better than that. I bet Indiana fans would already be pretty unhappy he hasn't brought home a championship. -

Is it Chuck and Crean then? Or just Chuck? What makes it more of a panic with Chuck? -
Probably cooked too much in advance.
