Bad news bears. They had the 20th ranked class in 2015 to our 26th per 247.

Nah, those are just Diamont's official measurements which I was throwing out as a contrast to how much bigger this guy is. I definitely prefer a large pro-style with the ability to scramble/sneak occasionally. 6'4, 230ish. Just a little bit smaller, though I'll take the extra size if his legs can still carry him at a decent clip.

Aaron Johnson: My impressions of Hoosier Hysteria
MartintheMopMan replied to theronjohn1's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Indiana v. Maryland with no crowd influence and nothing on the line, just pride and a display of team skill? That would be incredible. -
Interesting you would choose to make an assertion that is easily verifiable as untrue as it only takes reading my post history to realize I am frequently positive and the posts you consider to be negativity are actually just pragmatic discussions of facts. Outside of specific negative moments like something bad happening during a game in a game thread, I think my history shows I am generally quite supportive of the team. But, I know you prefer to make broad and specific statements you can't back-up rather than actually consider what happened, so I won't hold it against you. I am always negative in the same sense that Indiana fans were unsupportive of Cody Zeller (meaning of course, that it happened primarily in your head). Also, I believe "trolls" would rely on emotional arguments without being able to provide facts to support them because they are intentionally baiting people. It is not a general term for people who are negative.

I'm a little biased...but how cool would this be?

No way. Then we'd think they all look good. Oladipo could come out in a burlap sack still labelled as "Indiana Popcorn" and we would be like "You know what? I could totally dig that." He's a tangerine dream. -
Again though, I think it bears repeating that most if not all of the criticism I saw in this thread is of the "why sign a recruit this early unless they're top 10" variety and not "Durham isn't good enough for Indiana". And, it's easy to point out when armchair coaches are wrong, but it's not like that's always the case. Why sign a no-star big from Texas? Why sign a 2/3-star big from Arizona? Why sign a 3-star shooter from California after watching him once? Why sign a 3-star seven footer with chronic injury problems? And optimists have been wrong about the ultimate impact on the team too (Hollowell, Jurkin, HMP, Robinson) I think it just goes to show that rankings aren't everything, and the further you are from the top, the less predictive they are of your abilities. Our 5-star players have been 5-star players. Everyone else, it's not so clear cut.

It would look better as cream with a white shirt under it. -
If Coach Wilson can win either of our remaining home games and one remaining away game, I have no problem with an extension. It's a measurable and maintainable improvement over his previous seasons. That's really all I can ask for. Unless, like, Jim Tressel or John Harbaugh have put out feelers to take over the job. Then I would rather go with one of them. But, Coach Wilson with success v. Unknown commodity? Seems like an easier choice.
-
What do you expect for, what is it everyone here calls us? A gutter team? His classes were consistently ranked around 70th. Don't you think he deserves some more time to finish making this team a winner? I don't want to start firing coaches just because they have a few bad seasons. Then it's just rinse and repeat.

Class of 2019

So, Lynch did deserve more time? Or could beggars be choosers then but not now? He had similar results, increasing success recruiting, a bad season because of injuries, and a bowl game. Sounds like he actually did better than Wilson in his 4 years here. But for some reason, we're all happy Lynch is gone, but think Wilson is the savior of this team. It's just a crazy amount of rationalization that has to be done to say that Lynch was clearly a bad coach and we could do better but Wilson is a good coach who needs more time and the best we're going to do. I mean, I guess if we keep him then we'll see how much of our offense is him and how much is Nate Sudfeld.
-
Personally, I don't care how good he is. I don't think a coach who, because of recruiting and retention issues, has struggled to put together a complete team (as in, one made up of both shooters and post-players) over the last two years should be making personnel decisions two years in advance. And that's whether is Durham or Jalek Felton. But, it will be another year until we start worrying about that. So, in the meantime... I wonder if he bought any candy stripe pants or if they will just give him his early.

Who has bashed him?

We've been a 5 win football team for 10 years. How many decades should it take to get that 6th win*? Like, at what point will fun not be enough for you and you'll expect some actual results? And like, should we have given Lynch some more time? He was getting similar results, had a bad year due to some injuries but was slowly building on his success. Was 4 years enough of a chance or should we have given him another 4? *Except of course, Bill Lynch's Insight Bowl
-
Yeah, it's fun. But at what point do you feel like "fun" should give way to "results"? I mean, I've had the same attitude about things. I had the girlfriend who I didn't really dig that much but it was fun and better than being alone. And that was definitely the wrong decision at the time. Fear of change being bolstered by having a little fun shouldn't be enough. It's great watching a Heisman candidate running back compete alongside a future NFL roster QB, but don't you start to wonder why such an elite playing combo can't even hit .500? The good things are fun, but the good things also make the bad things so much more apparent and ugly. When you're a bad team already, then giving up 28 unanswered points to Rutgers in the last 18 minutes of a game is no big. When you're a team made up of genuinely good players who should be better than that, it's not so great. I mean, you want to see a coach who has brought a team up from the gutter, stocked it with serious professional quality athletes who are tons of fun to watch and can manage real high scoring shoot-out games just... unfortunately don't have much of a defense and can't win the games they need to. Who put some of the greatest players the school has ever seen through the paces and helped them develop into studs. Who makes legitimate improvements but leave glaring deficiencies. Who people keep saying "just one more year and he'll have us as real contenders again". Then just head over to Assembly Hall. I've got just the man you wanted to see. Let's keep him forever, since before him we burned through a couple of coaches who couldn't do it and I just don't trust we can ever get it right.

Of course, everyone knows mamasa has his whole retirement tied up in TIS stock.

Freshmen To be in Regular Rotation

That was who I was thinking of. Thanks guys.

Interesting bit in the Inside the Hall interview with him. One of the things that he liked was Crean telling him the things he needed to improve rather than the things he did right. Can someone help me out with remembering who else said that? It was a bigger recruitment and I think we lost out in the end.

Aaron Johnson: My impressions of Hoosier Hysteria

Honestly, I would love if we scheduled our exhibition games against two very very tough opponents. They're literally two free loses and an opportunity to test your squad by fire. -
Analysis: The significance of a 4-0 start
MartintheMopMan replied to IndyHutch's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Don't you feel stupid now? I mean, it looks like it will be 6 of 6. You way overestimated us. -
Yeah, you're right. Who cares? It will be two years before we have any idea of whether it was a bad decision or not. And we'll all be so washed up in our new coach that we won't even remember this conversation.
-
Are you sure? You've really written like someone who isn't worried about scholarship numbers because creaning will happen anyway. That seems pretty accepting. You've accepted we'll crean to make the numbers work out. And since I'm positive literally every single major basketball coach uses conditional offers and I'm almost as certain major recruits do as well, that would be a tough position for you to be in. No program could withstand every single offer they've made being accepted, they all make more offers than they have spots.
-
And more than anything. It bugs me that we've reached this point where we so casually accept Creaning. We should be able to expect players who commit get to play here as long as they want without being pushed out. If Priller is happy on the bench, he should be able to be happy on the bench for 4 years without feeling the heat for his spot. This isn't a professional team, we don't just get to toss people onto the waiver wire. Also, I don't think you can say "case in point" without any evidence that this was the case. There is nothing we know at the moment indicating Crean told him to wait and he committed anyway.
