People would say all the time how great hiring someone like Tom Allen is because “if he succeeds at Indiana he’ll stay forever!” If giving him a top 5 buyout in the entire country was the only way to get him to stay, how much does his ‘willingness to stay’ really matter? Giving him such an enormous buyout was a horrible decision.

Tom ‘full diaper’ Allen shows up every time we’re in a one possession game. Then again, we see what happens when he doesn’t play not to lose (MSU last week) and it’s equally depressing. He’s just an atrocious coach who has no business being a P5 head coach.

If Allen still has a job this time Sunday evening it will be an enormous bat signal from Dolson that he couldn’t care less about football. Will be an interesting two days.

Screwing up off the court before the season even starts and then severely underwhelming on it once it does isn’t a good combination when it comes to endearing yourself to the fan base. Especially when you’re a highly touted recruit.

Woodson is an improvement over Archie (would be hard not to be), but he’s not elite. And he doesn’t recruit at a high enough level to the point that he wouldn’t need to be elite, a la Calipari. So this is what we get.

The reality is that we lost a ton and didn’t bring in enough to make up for it. And that was from an above average but not great IU team last year. We’re in for a rough season. Our outside shooting is utterly nonexistent, which is not how you want to play in 2023. We’re very weak on the perimeter. We heard so much about how Woodson doesn’t like playing with multiple big guys but was forced to do so with Trayce/Race. Well, neither are here anymore yet our frontcourt is still our only positive.

MM is looking very disappointing. Nothing about him says 5-star talent.

Yeah with basketball the media could act like it was just IU fans being unreasonable. In this case, Allen is 3-23 in the conference over the last three seasons. That’s about as bad as you can be.

There’s no good reason to do it. Not when you only have 1 timeout. Too many things can go wrong (as shown by what actually happened). Tom’s at the end of his 7th season and still has no feel for the game. He’s just out there winging it.

Tom Allen is an utter moron and shouldn’t leave the stadium with his job. One of the most clueless coaches I’ve seen.

Not really that uncommon. He’s a very low volume shooter. He took 2 a game on average last season and had 8 games where he took 0.

We went 23-12 last year and lost a lot. I don’t think we added enough during the offseason to make up for the departures, so I am expecting this season to be a rocky one.

He’s a sixth year senior who started one year at… Ball State. They went 5-7 and he threw 18 tds to 14 ints. Appeared in 5 games over the other 4 seasons. IU just got torched by a mediocre MAC qb.

Thank you Illinois for (hopefully) saving us from another year with this goofball. 500 yards and 4 tds from a backup qb. Fitting end for Tom Allen and his vaunted defense.

We lost a ton from last season, including one of the very best players in college basketball. A lot of folks downplayed it at the time. This is why I was so concerned with our offseason. But, it’s a long season with many games left to play.

It’s never too early

He got lucky with one recruit and one OC. We’ve seen enough of his recruiting and coach selection over the other 5 seasons to know he just got lucky with Penix and Allen. I hated the Allen hire from the very beginning. He is in his 7th season. He’s won 3 conference games in the past 3 seasons. However much credit one wants to give him for 2019 and 2020 is debatable. I give him little given the rest of his tenure. Others give him quite a bit. Regardless, in his other 5 seasons he has won a total of 7 conference games. It’s time to move on.

Tom Allen really owes absolutely everything to Michael Penix and DeBoer. Outside of 2019 and the flukey 2020, he’s 19-39 overall and 7-35 in the Big 10. That’s a 16.7% conference winning percentage. 7 conference wins in nearly 5 seasons. 3-21 since the 2020 season. His firing can’t come soon enough.

I understand they’re not actually going to fire him if IU wins a bowl game this year. But the question was whether I would want him fired if that happens, and frankly there’s nothing Tom Allen could do that wouldn’t make me want IU to fire him after this season.
