  1. Our inability to shoot plays a big part in a statistic like this. Teams sag off our players when they’re behind the arc, both because we can’t hit 3s and because our two best players are post guys. It seems like almost every 3 Xavier takes is uncontested. Same thing happened with Rob against Minnesota.
  2. Why would people even want Fife as head coach? Seems like another guy folks want because he’s an “IU guy.” We’re trying that with Woodson. If he doesn’t work out, no reason to replace him with another underqualified “IU guy.” The fact Fife hasn’t taken a shot at a mid-major job yet is a little odd to me.
  3. Boheim should have retired a while ago but wanted to coach his sons. He’s had a couple of nice tournament runs recently but he hasn’t finished higher than T-6th in his conference since 2014. And Woody won’t have Nike shoveling him recruits like Coach K did.
  4. Fortunately for you, no one will be confusing IU for a pro team anytime soon. Players have been getting paid this season and it’s the last thing on my mind when I watch a game.
  5. Why does it matter so much to you? You’re not the one footing the bill.
  6. almost every fanbase claims that they’re clean anyway. We just do it while also sucking. Go to Rupp Rafters and they’re acting holier than thou. They act like Calipari is clean and moan about how dirty teams like Kansas and Duke are. Everyone is the hero in their own story. These things are done in the shadows. Nothing would stop fans from riding their high horse while still bending the rules.
  7. I don’t think there is a better summation of our season than that finish right there. WTF. We have no idea what to do in end of game situations, and this is the second game in a row we screwed ourselves with our timeout management.
  8. He always plays hard. He doesn’t always play smart, but he’s never given me dgaf vibes.
  9. Do you disagree that IU basketball has been feeding its fanbase a **** sandwich for the better part of the past two decades? Unless we win today and sneak into the tournament, we’ll have had more than twice has many losing conference seasons (9) as we’ve had tournament appearances (4) since we hired Crean. We’ve finished higher than 6th place in the conference 3 times during that period, and we’ve finished higher than 5th place twice. Top 4 in the big ten twice in the past 14 seasons. Maybe we’re stupid for coming back for more at this point. Maybe I’m just a glutton for punishment. Idk.
  10. I don’t know how much UCLA was offering. They’re paying Cronin about $4 million a year, which is closer to like $3 million when you account for taxes and COL. Duke hired an assistant because that’s what Coach K wanted. They even hired that particular assistant over a different one because it’s what he wanted. Brad Stevens literally quit coaching, so I don’t read much into him turning IU down. Money talks. Saying no one wants a job is just talk. Going to a guy and offering to double or triple his salary will catch his attention. And heck, I think Woodson could do fine enough here if we untied his hands. Look at Sean Miller at Arizona. Just putting out better talent than your competition can make a difference. You might not win a title or go to a final four, but you’ll be a regular tournament team.
  11. Thanks man! Yeah I like it a lot. The amount of skill it requires is crazy. I started getting into hockey when I was in law school. My school has a real solid team and the games were always a blast to go to. I wish IU had a varsity team. With the sizable east coast student population I feel like it’d be well supported.
  12. They make the elite 8 every other year while we fight and claw our way to the bubble. The solution to our problem is so simple, imo, which makes it all the more frustrating. Pay $6+ million a year for an elite coach, look the other way and let him engage in the recruiting game, and then win. You can’t sit here and tell me it wouldn’t work. You may not want to do it that way, but it would get us back to the top. Instead, we handicap ourselves and toil in mediocrity.
  13. I finally live in a state with a team so I feel like I have to at least try to root for them haha. They don’t make it very easy, though. The last game I went to they got destroyed by the Maple Leafs.
  14. Devils/Rangers tonight at the Gahhden. Go Devils!
  15. You said “now we act like spoiled brats because we are no longer elite.” IU fans are incredibly mild compared to how fans of Kentucky, Duke, etc. would act if they went through 20 years like we just have. They would burn Rupp Arena to the ground. Frankly, the fanbase is the best thing the program has going for it at this point 20 years of extreme mediocrity yet fans keep showing up.
  16. I really wish there was an eye roll reaction. Those darn spoiled brat IU fans and their anger toward not making the tournament since 2016 and only making it four times since 2008. They need to get over it and accept their rightful position as a below average Big 10 team.
  17. Absolutely. Beating Purdue was a great moment, but it was just that - a moment. It was fun to enjoy, but the program was still what it is. As I added to my previous post, good moments like the Purdue game are harder to enjoy these days because there’s the lingering “the collapse is coming” feeling. And here, the high of the Purdue game was short-lived as we got blown out at home by a mediocre Michigan team three days later. Romeo was the #7 recruit in the country. He was the finishing touch on the #10 recruiting class in the country and the #2 class in the B1G. We thought we had a great young coach in Archie. The future looked incredibly promising. It was the best I’ve felt about IU basketball between the 2016 sweet 16 run and today.
  18. I don’t know what your deleted post quoting me said, but I enjoy the good times. There just haven’t been very many. The highlight of the past 6 years or so was probably Romeo’s commitment day. That day was a lot of fun. Tons of hope for the future. Since then, every year has been the same. The season starts out well and then we collapse in February. It’s Groundhog Day. Even the one year we may have made the tournament before it was canceled, we started the season 15-4 and then lost 8 of the next 12 games. This year, we entered February 16-5. Easily a tournament team. Fast forward a month and we’re 18-11, losers of 6 out of the last 8. It makes the few bright spots we have here and there much harder to enjoy. There’s always a lingering “the collapse is coming” feeling.
  19. I don’t ‘hate,’ any of our players. I’ve never met any of them, but they seem like nice enough kids. They’re just not the caliber of talent I want on our team. We want elite results but we’re never going to get that with middling talent and middling coaching. Maybe it seems like I invest ‘so much time and energy,’ idk, but I really don’t. I post a handful of times on here a day when I’m bored or when things are slow at work, sometimes more sometimes less. I don’t watch as much as I used to. I watched about half of the Rutgers game. Didn’t watch any of the Minnesota game. Maybe that’s the natural progression. From appointment television, to watching most games, to watching some games, etc.
  20. I could, but when passionate fans quit caring your program really dies. I hate to say it, but the fans who saw the glory years are getting older, and the younger fans have seen little glory. I’m so negative because I want the program to be great, I see no reason why it shouldn’t be great, but it’s not great.
  21. When I’m fed a sh** sandwich, I don’t pretend that it tastes good. We haven’t made it past the sweet 16 in 20 years. We have only made 3 sweet 16s in the past 20 years. We’ve only made 4 tournaments since 2008. We haven’t made the tournament since 2016. Since then, we’ve finished T-10th, T-6th, 9th, T-10th, T-10th, and 9th in the conference. We suck, and we’ve sucked for the better part of two decades. I don’t know an IU basketball program that’s elite. I was a 1st grader the last time we played in an elite 8. As for sucking in the future, what has the administration done to make you think we won’t keep sucking? They’ve done nothing to suggest that they’re serious about winning big. We needed a big splash to right the ship when we fired Archie. What did we do? We hired a 63 year old failed NBA head coach with zero college coaching experience because he played at IU 4+ decades ago. He somehow took over a bad offense and made it even worse. If you’re optimistic for the future that’s your prerogative, but it’s blind optimism not based on the reality of our program.
  22. This shot was so much worse than I remembered last night. We let him trot down the court, made no attempt to double team him, pressure him, etc., and he just dribbled into a 3. We played it with no desperation. No sense of urgency. You’d think it was the middle of the first half, not 10 seconds left in the second half of a tie game.
  23. You’ve said before that we asked around and several prominent names shot us down, right? If we were only going to pay the guy $3.5-$4 million a year, us getting shot down by top guys makes a ton of sense. Why leave a nice spot for a comparable salary? It wouldn’t be a good decision. If we were offering $7 million a year and no one wanted the job, that’s depressing as hell. That’d be a substantial raise for almost any coach in college bball. But I’m not surprised we weren’t offering that much and that no one wanted to come for a middle of the road salary.
