Make revenue generating sports athletes employees of the university, this gets around title IX. Not all employees get paid the same. Pay them 30-40k plus free tuition, tutoring, housing, meals, etc. edit: Get the pro leagues to take players at younger ages and this conversations goes away. If kids want to be professionals, then go to a professional league.

The guy can coach. I’m pulling for them. Screw OSU.
-
I think if you know it’s not going to work, you should pull the plug no matter when it is. However, I’d say 95%+ of the time, you need to give a coach 4 years before moving on.

Looks like they want Jason Kidd, but he is waiting to see if the Lakers job comes open first. Per rumors.

Nice.

(2019) SF Trendon Watford to LSU
Feathery replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
All of his other schools are losing coaches or could be losing coaches, so people are hopeful. I’m sure the tired will be kicked again, or at least should. But I have zero info. -
But who is over the compliance office? That could be a simple mandate for whoever is in charge to change focus to help the athletic programs work within the rules to maximize recruitment.

You’re right it matters. The step back in perception goes well above Fred Glass. It goes back to a culture implemented as soon as Knight was fired. You are directing your anger at the wrong person. The powers that be at the school do not want to be known as a basketball or sporting school. They are academics. They don’t want big name coaches who will be a singular face of the university. So Fred has done a great job of getting someone who is considered one of, if not the, top young coach in the game. If Fred is right, he just hired the guy who will outlast the McRobbie regime. He hired the guy that should have us stocked with 4 year experienced talent, as the 1 and done rule goes away. Which means Archie can become the face of a successful basketball program and school under different leadership at the top. If he is wrong, then both will be gone in 2-3 years.

I got a chuckle about Nebraska facilities. Nebraska has some of the best facilities in the country. I’d say the Big Ten as a whole needed upgrades in facilities to try and keep up with the southern and coastal schools that were dominating. It’s a strong point for Fred bc he recognized it and has been working to get to an even playing field.

Unless we go full Kentucky, no coach is going to have a championship caliber team in year 3. To goal should be make the tournament and see what happens from there.
-
He isn’t responsible for the 1st year. And he inherited issues he has been trying to fix. This isn’t directed at you but I see a lot of people pissed and venting at Archie for things out of his control. Let’s be honest, if we don’t have the injury issue, we win 20 games in year 2 and are safely in the NCAA’s.
-
McRobbie might not care about sports. I’m surprised we don’t have a thread to fire him to be honest. Fred loves IU and it’s sports. However, he reports to people who don’t give a flying F&$@ about sports. You want a winning culture, then look above Fred Glass and get a president who cares. Also, Mitch Daniels make McRobbie look like an amateur.

You said he nickel and dimed basketball. I was pointing where he didn’t.
-
He didn’t nickel and dime basketball. Crean and staff were paid very well. He allowed Crean the largest recruiting budget in the country. That’s not nickel and diming.

Illinois a few years ago.

Why are you judging Glass on basketball when his coach has been here for 2 seasons. The 2nd season isn’t finished yet, his only recruiting class is freshmen. If you’re willing to give Archie 5 years, then Glass should get the same. He didn’t hire Crean, extension yes. But we were also number 1, and a top recruiting class was on the way in. Crean used the leverage to his advantage. But when it was clear Crean wasn’t the guy and he had the support of boosters, he pulled the plug. This call for Glass’s head is a just knee jerk reaction, bc people are not patient enough to let Archie build the program back. Since they can’t call for Archie’s head, then by golly someone has to pay. Fire Fred! Also, just bc you don’t see a NCAA team next season, doesn’t mean we won’t be one. I see a NCAA team next year. We lacked strong leadership and experience this year. Starting 2 freshman and 2 sophs with a senior leader who admits he wanted to transfer is not the recipe for success. The young guys have gained experience and the senior leader who wanted to transfer is going to graduate. Relax things are improving. Maybe not at your pace but they are.

We sure do have a lot to say about a KENTUCKY recruit. I was hoping this thread wouldn’t be on the front page anymore. -
Yes you are correct. We also were starting 4 freshman/sophomores. We are young and do not have the metal toughness or the leadership capabilities to not fold. The senior leadership was a guy who said he wanted to transfer.
-
21-9 wasn’t t unrealistic. That losing streak, injuries, harmony, and parent issues all played a part. But we saw a team win 17 games. Without the injuries, I don’t think we lose as many in the streak and win 20+. Nothing wrong with reevaluating those expectations when injuries, etc, happen.

What he said. Lol

I could see Hunter there as well. I think we will see both our lineups during games throughout the season.
-
That thought crossed my mind as well. However Justin Smith doesn’t stretch the floor either. So I was thinking who will finish at the rim better and/or be more consistent from midrange. That’s why I selected TJD to start with Deron. The other reason I went with TJD to start with Deron is defense. That is a long athletic lineup with Hunter TJD and Deron for the pack line.

JUCO: 6'4" SG Sean McNeil to West Virginia

Can this guy play defense? He can obviously shoot, but will he be a liability on the other end?
