I think they are being patient. I’ve got some friends who want IU to pass on Leal. I think you need to take him, as he is a hometown kid who gets it. He will put his heart and soul into being a Hoosier. To me that goes along way for developing the kind of culture Archie wants. He might not be a top 50 kid nationally, but last I looked he is a top 75/100, 4 year kid.

Yep, they are opinions. My expectations for any coach coming in (Same for Crean a decade ago) was and still is: Year 1: Stabilize the program. Recruit well. Build lasting recruiting ties within the state. Year 2: stack a 2nd recruiting class and increase the win total. Year 3: make the NCAA tournament, stack a 3rd class. Year 4: Make the 2nd weekend, Stack a 4th class. How the moving parts happen, I don’t care. Is there room for improvement? Sure. No coach is perfect and there will be growth opportunities for Archie. But overall, he is on schedule and needs to continue that trajectory. Now if we stall and don’t make the NCAA next year, then I’ll be with you on being concerned.

Good post. I don’t think recruiting has stalled at all. We are bringing in a 5* McD All American and another top Indiana kid. I’m bullish on Franklin after watching him play. He is much better than previous IU commits and players who were ranked higher, Ron Patterson and Jeremy Hollowell. Stalled would be bringing in a few 3*’s. The class isn’t finished yet, but I hope we get some veteran transfers to help with “getting old” I listened to a interesting take on one and dones by Seth Greenberg. His take on one and dones are you don’t take them as a developing team, unless you can get several at once. He pointed out several examples of it not working. That is creates locker room issues bc of jealousy. Nobody is there who is going through what the one and done is going through. So it makes it tough. This wasn’t something that I had really thought about before.

2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves
Feathery replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Points/game: Morgan 7.7, Smith 8.2 3p %: Morgan 25%, Smith 21.9% Rebounds: Morgan 5.6, Smith 4.5 Looking at the rest of their stats, they are very similar statistically as sophomores. We shall see if Smith makes the leap that Morgan made. -

I don’t know either. I haven’t gone back to see what stats he was referring too. Maybe points per game? Shrug. -

I’m interested in seeing if Smith figures it out. Fish made a comment late in the season in an interview with Dakich, that Smith has better averages than Morgan did as a sophomore. I haven’t looked to see if that was accurate and what stats in particular he was referencing. But he was basically saying don’t give up on him yet. -
I believe we just witnessed a Boiler Up.

Edwards deserves to win. Kid is playing at another level.

And Crean said Guy wasn’t athletic enough to play power 5 basketball. Lol.

He hired the kids relative. He learned how to play the game after he left IU.

Doesn’t matter. Pearl is a top coach, top coaches will produce no matter the school. Took him 4 years. Izzo at MSU 3 years. K at Duke 4 years. Calipari at Memphis (pre 1 and done recruiting strategy) took 3 years to make the NCAA’s. But I get it, life is so much better being negative and down about your hobbies.

Give it a rest already

I can see that argument. I do think Romeo was vastly overrated or he just played timid to protect himself from injury. Not sure which it is to be honest. Edit. There was rumblings that Romeo stayed at New Albany instead of going to a prep school to protect from getting exposed. Heard some theories about if he playing in Indy over NA, that he wouldn’t have come close to Damon or gotten all the hype.

So I get to brag I was right that I did from day 1 OSU was in better shape? Stop listening to writers or to staffers who vote for the coaches. Look at the rosters and coaching staffs style of play. Then make your own conclusions. OSU continued with their Butler style of play. IU was transitioning to a polar opposite style. The results played out as such.

We did have enough talent. Then our PG got a concussion and missed Ames and he wasn’t the same until about 5 games left in the season. Crazy how we went on a losing streak then. Deron got injured. Race got injured. Green got suspended. That’s 3 of our best players. This also also reality and explains the 1-12. You realize if we go 3-10 or 2-11 we make the NCAA right? So all your worry is literally over 1 possible win while we were injured.
