  1. Overall 23-11, conference 11-9, win one in the BTT, and lose opening NCAA game. Starting: Phinisee, Green, Smith, TJD, DD PPG: It will be a balanced attack. Hot Take #1: Justin Smith is our most improved player. Hot Take #2: Al and Rob both shoot over 40% from 3.
  2. Good pick up, congrats to Trey.
  3. As recruits and parents read the boards, what purpose does the negativity serve? If you’ve given up on the coaching staff, then I get it. Fans can create a toxic environment around programs that can take a decade to dig out of. Look at Michigan football posts Lloyd Carr. Fans/boosters/alumns didn’t give Rich Rod a chance to succeed. They cut his legs out from the get go and they sucked through Brady Hoke until Harbaugh arrived. Also, one persons realistic take isn’t the same as another’s For IU basketball I said 2 seasons ago that it would be a 3 year process for any coach. Archie wasn’t my first, second, or third choice, but he was on everyone’s list. I’ll give him the same fair shake as i would have any new coach. 3 years to make the dance and if not, that seat will be red hot in year 4. The problem I have with my own reasoning is he is building for long term success with 3-4 year players. That does take time. It took Bennett 5 years at UVA. Archie himself said he wouldn’t fill all scholarships every year when he first arrived to campus. He also said it would take 3 years for his defense to get to its peak. Offensively we miss too many open looks, but we get open looks. So yes year 3 is important, and I along with other actually think IU will be better next year than the last 2 years. We have a NCAA tournament roster and should be there. Hopefully that will make the restless happy. I know people will chime in with look at Chris Beard. I get it, he went the transfer route and it paid off. He is an exceptional coach who will be the next head coach of probably the San Antonio Spurs. So he has a short shelf life as a college coach.
  4. Ostrom is the top recruiter on staff. He took over as lead recruiter for Romeo and then we started to trend for him. He was the lead recruiter for both TJD and Franklin this class. He is a must have on staff imo.
  5. Ostrom and Schilling didn’t get along. Ostrom is Archie’s guy. Schilling not carrying his weight recruiting leads to him being replaced.
  6. Creaning is over-signing and forcing a kid out. This isn’t that.
  7. If, nobody leaves early for the pros or transfers out.
  8. Not concerned about his numbers vs grown men in a pro league, when he could be playing high school. If Archie wants him, and we have open scholarships, you take him.
  9. I take that back. It says I’m banned again on the mobile web browser version. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  10. Whatever the issue, it seems to be fixed now.
  11. Anyone else getting a banned message when opening the site from a web browser? I use my phone when using the site, not a fan of the app. Mods? 41? I can’t see any pages at all, it just says banned with a lock in the middle of the screen. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  12. I think we have shown evidence of being a top Big Ten program. I think people are ignoring the good, because we don’t have Jordan Hulls or Christian Watford type shooters on the team. I’ve said before that all college rosters yearly are projections because of the youth and development of players vary. But we have stacked back to back classes with very good multi year players. People need to stop looking at who was missed and look at who is coming or here already. IU is in a good spot. No national expectations, but a roster that is top half of the Big Ten quality. For the first time in years we have Big Ten size. We have guys who are good shooter, just not great ones, in Green, Phinisee, Durham, Hunter, and Anderson. If people wanted top 10 by year 3, then we needed to hire a guy like Pitino or Calipari, skirt the rules, and recruit only one and done players. We will be a top 10 team in 2 years imo.
  13. It’s beyond crazy. I’ve wondered if some of the people so negative are actually fans of other programs. Or if they are relatives of Tom Crean. The total irrational sky is falling mentality is very odd.
  14. I watched Boyd play one time in high school. He was playing at Vincennes Rivet, and nobody on that team was close to his level.
  15. Is this kid a taller Brody Boyd?
  16. Is this the kid that Purdue leads for?
  17. While I agree with the premise of your statement. The reality is, it’s hasn't been level playing field in decades. Look at UCLA 60 years ago. To me it’s about leveling the playing field as much as you can within your own house. Get the compliance office to help find the loopholes. See Romeo’s dad getting paid by Adidas. Purely within the rules. See Jim Harbaugh taking his team to Rome, Paris, now South Africa on the dime of a single donor. NCAA can’t say crap bc it’s educational. All kinds of ways to stay within the rules and make IU basketball on more equal footing. Look at Vanderbilt. They are hiring all kinds of support staff, like football programs. They even have a head coaching consultant (or something close to it). IU isn’t spending like that. We are still steps behind others in things that are legal.
  18. I hope he does well. I was 10 when the Fab 5 arrived at Michigan. I loved watching them play, and only rooted against them when IU played them. I’m also interested bc Michigan is a top 10 program and they went a route that IU refused to go. They hired a former play who was only an assistant to lead their program. IU bypassed Dane Fife.
  19. Looks like it will be Juwan Howard.
  20. The NCAA answers to the university presidents. The presidents dont care about rules for basketball and football. What they care about is making money. See Big Ten having a revenue of $759 million. As long as the money train is rolling, and your compliance office is on the same page, almost anything is legal. Frankly there is a lot of ways that you can do things, perceived dirty by fans, but perfectly legal by NCAA standards.
  21. This isn’t a bad look. This is how things go within revenue sports at the power 5 level. It’s either get with the times or become irrelevant. The FBI has basically said they don’t care. The NCAA has said they don’t care, just deny and they are good. The SEC came out a few years ago and said they want to do better at basketball. You see Pearl get rehired, Wade to LSU, and Howland to MSU. Crean even lands the top player at UGA. The only programs that suffer are the ones that want to play by some rules that aren’t followed and can’t be enforced. Oh and the president of the NCAA, is the former chancellor of LSU. IU administration need to get with it and let Archie do his job on a level playing field.
  22. The FBI sting took down a shoe guy and some runners. Coaches skated, schools skated. Time to get with the times or get left in the dust. If Adidas isn’t going to do it for IU, then switch to Nike. They seem to be at a higher level anyway.
  23. Sam Webb, Michigan Insider/247/radio host, talked about it on his radio show earlier this week.
  24. Stevens and Donovan will be NBA guys for the rest of their careers. If they get fired, another NBA franchise will snap them up quickly, or they can retire with the fortunes they have already made. Brad Stevens was actually encouraging Beilien to go the NBA. Selling him on how much better coaching in the NBA is over the NCAA. If anyone was still holding out hope for Stevens to return to college, it’s not happening.
  25. Lol. I agree. Pass, pass, pass. Not sure who they will get, but they won’t pay more than they do for football.
