Watched High Point yesterday for the 1st time and Huss was pretty damned impressive. Winthrop came out making everything and got up big. Huss was clearly down on their defensive effort and pulled his starters. I know they play their bench a ton, but pulled them all. Managed to keep them cool and focused despite the stakes and kept them executing and won it going away. Would have been easy for that thing to get sideways.

Sure. If there’s any program in CBB that isn’t hiring the guy coming off the show cause for cheating and then lying to NCAA investigators about it, it’s the program that was burned to cinders by a guy doing that exact same thing. Seriously, if someone told me that IU had a presser set up to announce the new HC and wasn’t sure but it’s either Jon Scheyer or Will Wade my response would be, “Holy $hit, Jon Scheyer’s leaving Duke!’

I imagine there’s a range of outcome that could land on McCollum. There’s none that would land on Wade.

This McCollum pace of play stuff is killing me. On 3 viewings of Drake I’m guessing he’s probably a 65 possession guy, something like that. Someone less lazy than I am is welcome to check me on that. So he’s not Nate Oats. But I guarantee that Matt Painter and Dan Hurley are sub-70 possession guys. Average fans couldn’t tell the difference between 65 and 70 possessions if their lives depended on it. Aesthetically pleasing offense has zero to do with pace and everything to do with the quality of shots you’re generating. You run a 26 sec possession with crisp ball movement that results in your guy burying an open 3 and someone’s trying to me tell that’s boring? Then you’re not a basketball fan. Find me a guy with a vision of how to play who knows to recruit to it and teach it and dude is gonna win here.

Have always gone to a couple of SIUE games a year because their facility’s nice and their tickets are cheap and nobody goes and they play an ok schedule. This year, yeah, didn’t go to one. Unbelievable.

Can’t like this enough. Of course you’re right. And unless one believes that Scott Dolson is just deeply stupid, and there’s no reason of any kind to think that, with a year to put a profile and a process together I’m 100% confident that the hire, regardless of the size of the name, will have been thoroughly vetted and is gonna make sense. And if we’re past the no hopers now, I am really excited to see how this plays out. But here’s the thing that some folks need to get their minds around: if IU hired the Bama Nate Oats, the UF Todd Golden or the UL Pat Kelsey this place would celebrate but if they hired the Buffalo Nate Oats, the San Francisco Todd Golden or the C of C Pat Kelsey this place would burn to the freaking ground. If they hire Bryan Hodgson or Eric Olen or, yes, Allan Huss it would be awesome because it would mean they were 100% married to their process and that’s where it landed and they don’t care about the presser. Doubt that’s how it goes, but man would that be cool. Imagine it’ll be a rock solid guy with a high major history and that’s cool, too.

Watching San Diego from last night right now. Man, if they end up something like a 12 and they catch a 5 on a bad shooting night those guys are going home. They really communicate on D and they’re not giving up anything easy to these guys. They’ve definitely got a talent ceiling, but they’re very, very well coached.

Can’t imagine it wouldn’t go just like that. UT fell into the IU/Mike Davis trap with Terry. Head Coach hiring Rule #1: Never, ever, hire a guy under unusual circumstances that you wouldn’t hire under normal ones.

My feed this morning is dominated by PU fans bitching about the T on Colvin. I swear, he chinned himself with no one underneath him. Doesn’t get easier than that. And their argument was he was looking around. Bwahahaha.

I read that and thought, “Wait, Bradley’s coach isn’t Kent Stevens.” Yeah, time to head back to the coffee pot.

Yup, he and Adam Herbert were supposedly boys.

Darius Acuff doing Darius Acuff things. Tell ya what, 1 of the funniest things in basketball last year was IMG games and watching Khani Rooths glaring at Acuff as he’d just remorselessly chuck shots.

Will remain a complete skeptic on Stevens but will say this: if IU is/was unable to get it done with him, nobody’s getting it done with him. He’s not gonna end up at KU or UNC down the road. If the dude ever coaches CBB again it will be this job this time.

Putting aside the whole basketball savant part, dude was the best guy I’ve ever met in the game.
