Indiana at Virginia - Saturday 9/9 @ 3:30 ET on ESPNU
Demo replied to KB0's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Yeah, as much as I disagree with the way targeting is called on bang bang plays, that one's pretty much textbook. Gooch deserved it if they had called it on the field. But if the ref 15' from the play doesn't call it, calling it from the booth is complete crap unless they're prepared to call PI's and other close calls the same way. -

If I sound negative, that's not my intent. Kid's played well and deserves all the credit he gets. Has really competed. He's a Freshman. He's gonna make plays and he's gonna miss plays. -

They called one in the Louisville game earlier and the defender had his head up and made contact with his mask. Just a terribly officiated rule. -

This is coming back and Gooch is gone. God I hate targeting. And I really hate that they can call it from above. -

I was about to opine that Ramsey was coming back to earth. Guess I'll just shut up and enjoy. -

You're right on both counts. But that one was on Ramsey. They didn't even bother to disguise where they were coming from, and he didn't even look at his hot. -

Nice tackle by Covington. He's had a good half. -

Word of advice to the D.C.: McCray is you best pass rusher. Don't drop him into coverage. Too clever by half. -

Don't think I've ever seen a fair catch on a punt that was going into the end zone on the fly. Jesus. -

Nice discipline on the fake, but did our starting safety really just get run over by the holder? -
(2018) PF Jake Forrester to IU

You know the saying, "Some things are as inevitable as the tide." This recruitment just feels that way to me. Will be surprised if he takes another visit. -

Illness in the family. Rumors around Whitfield aren't good. -
(2018) PF Jake Forrester to IU

Yeah, didn't make my thinking very clear there. When I look at the kids that the current staff seems to have prioritized, rather than just offered, vs a lot of the kids that the former staff appeared to be prioritizing early on, and excluding RL and DG, whom everyone is after, there doesn't seem to be have been a ton of overlap. Maybe Phinisee, though it always felt like the previous staff was holding the kid at arm's length. And yet, both staffs appear to be, independently, hot on some relatively unheralded, non-local kid. That just leads me to believe that there is more to this kid than 2:00 clips make apparent. Hence, my desire to see this kid up close. I also think that if Chris is right and he has an unconditional offer, the kid will commit on his official. -

I don't find this kid in clips any more exciting then most on here. But what I do find intriguing is that, outside of RL, the only kid in the '18 class that both the old and new staff's seem to be equally high on is Forrester. Are they both wrong on him? Fascinates me. There is no kid i would like to see live more. Gotta be something there. -
(2018) PG Robert Phinisee to Cincinnati

Shout out to Old Fart on this one. As I recall the man was on Phinisee early in his Freshman year, maybe before that. Nice call, sir. -

See, this is what I miss about living in Indy. People who love the game enough to know and care about who the best underclass kids are. Here in beautiful St Louis, only the best connected guys know about anyone not named Jayson Tatum or Brad Beal. Makes me crazy. -
Who gets the ball in late shot clock situations
Demo replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I would be concerned if it turns to be anyone but Johnson. That would indicate to me that he isn't having the kind of senior year this team needs to really compete. Don't really see anyone else filling that role. -
(2018) PG Darius Garland to Vandy

Could not agree more. Akinjo owned that team and Garland seemed like just a piece. But, man, is he a skilled piece. -

Final 8: IU, Seton Hall, Norte Dame, Pitt, Georgia Tech, Xavier, Va Tech, VCU. I know his stat lines and video scream just a guy, but that is an unassailably solid list of offers. -
(2018) PG Darius Garland to Vandy

First full game of Garland's that I've seen, so the usual small sample size rules apply. Talent and variety in his game are obvious. Great talent. But he doesn't seem like the toughest kid, and he really wasn't much of an on floor leader at all. Maybe it just seems more glaring right after watching Akinjo. That team belonged to that kid and he just competed his a** off. Just a great leader. Maybe Garland's tangibles outweigh Akinjo's intangibles, but I'm not sure about that. If I had the choice between 2 years of Garland or 4 years of Akinjo, I'd have to give that a lot of thought. -
They measure both a standing vert and a one step vert. A standing 40" vert would be pretty damned close to human flight. I'm not suggesting what they're doing isn't impressive, it obviously is. Freddie's incredible off 2 feet. Just saying it's a little like all these guys listed at 6'10" who are actually 6'8". They're still tall.
