Goode brings value whether he’s making shots or not and if you don’t see that I would question if you know what you’re watching. In fact, what Hatton and Goode contributed today really pi$$ed me off because they’re well-coached and they didn’t get that here. Example: When Hatton was guarding high ball screen actions he took 1 jab step out from the screen before he dropped forcing the ball handler to take 1 more dibble before trying to get downhill and giving his primary 1 more step to recover. He didn’t learn that at IU because Woody doesn’t teach it. If Reneau played it that way it would probably save him a foul a game. He also managed 3 blocks despite being completely landlocked because he’s been taught to reach for the lights when he contests at the rim and so he forces adjustments by guards to finish but he’s not going after every driver from every angle so he’s not putting them into forced rotation the way Ballo does. Again, that’s how he’s been coached, and not here. And watching Goode hunt and fill crack after crack and have himself in perfect shooting position at all times in comparison to Mgbako just hanging out waiting for ball reversal with no prep other than putting his hands up made me want to throw my drink at the screen. Yet again, 1 of them has been really well-coached and knows how to play and 1 of them is just really talented and waits to be fed. This game really got to me because those Winthrop kids absolutely understood their gameplan and what they were attacking and there way too many possesssions where IU flat didn’t.

Might be the most underrrated player in the entire country. Will never get his due because Penn St is such an outpost, but he controls games like very few kids.
-
I love Thornton. That kid is such a warrior. Both ends. Would take him over Smith without a thought.

God knows this is fair criticism of Woody, it’s the thing that pi$$es me off the worst about him, but not in this specific case. There’s a reason Reynolds has a shockingly weak offer list. Izzo and Underwood never bothered to offer him. He was supposed to visit Dusty a few months ago and then cancelled. Shrew’s 15 mins from him and barely pays attention to him. No one thinks he’s going anywhere but Purdue.

2 things here: 1) watched 1 of those day in the life videos of him. Seems like a good kid who’s had a pretty tough go of it. Imagine he ended up there because he still had grade issues. He was taking 5 classes during his 1st summer semester. 2) Kid’s a freaking specimen. He’s the quintessential “1st off the bus” guy. -
This might be recency bias, but I don’t know if I have ever heard announcers more shamelessly shill a program than these guys have shilled Colorado in a beat down loss. And to top off their game-long snuggling, Prime leaves Shadeur in the game to stat pad, he throws a 3 yd TD pass to cut the lead to 24 with under 2 mins left against BYU’s subs and the play by-play guy proceeds to tell us how super impressed he would be if he were the Giants brass that Shadeur is still in there competing. I swear to God.

I didn’t realize that was the deal. Thought maybe he’d just gotten nicked a little and shut it down. That is a touch sketchy.

Appreciate the insight and welcome to our little corner of the world. Once you get past our bitterness these days we’re ok to hang out with every now and then. -

Ohio U edge Bradley Weaver has entered the portal. Had 15 tackles for loss with 8.5 sacks and was 1 of of PFF’s highest graded college edge players this year. Maybe there are a couple of ex-Ohio U players who could maybe vouch for their experiences in Bloomington. -
Pre-portal I was a big believer in using a 12th or 13th scholly on a traits guy at pretty much all times. Churn them and when 1 hits you stole a kid. But in this era it’s always gonna be tough to get the ROI.

The natural reaction is looking at this as sort of a Grant Gelon situation. Don’t think that’s quite fair. He’s clearly a high major athlete and if you believe in the kid then it’s worth exploring. And, man, does he have a pretty stroke.

6’7” lefty wing from Chicago who attends Bosco Academy in Hammond, IN. Visited a couple of games ago. Super under the radar at this point. A few mentions here and there but nothing in depth.

Ole Miss S Louis Moore returning to IU, per 247. -
My favorite part of USC with their backup QB and a million guys sitting it out beating Texas A&M is that A&M was, like, the go-to win for all of the SEC teams making a playoff argument. “Indiana hasn’t beaten anybody and _________ has a big-time win over Texas A&M.”

Example #100 or so of the culture change in Bloomington. A year ago if CTA had an AA CB I would have just assumed you’re losing that guy. But now, since Ponds isn’t draft eligible it never occurred to me for a second that he wouldn’t be back.
-
Am I the only who didn’t realize that guy was 78? Selection Sunday will not be the same.

It hadn’t really occurred to me that Ponds might leave, but he’s officially staying, per his Twitter feed. Thank God, kid’s a hell of a player.

No almost about it. The smart MM coaches are gonna tailor their recruiting pitches to, “Come here and in 2 years our development program and contacts will have you in a power conference.” Can see a scenario where schools at that level become de facto minor league feeders for specific programs. Cig: “We like your talent, but you need some development. Go play for Jason Candle at Toledo and we’ll revisit your progress until you’re ready for IU.” Can absolutely see that happening. -

Given the lack of depth and experience at safety right now, can’t imagine this isn’t a top priority. -
One of my favorite Xmas things is the family gathering with our Niece’s family. At some point the Nephew in Law and I will start talking music. The dude listens to and recalls more music across more genres than anyone I know. I asked him for a band that was inexplicably IHO not a big deal and he busted out these guys. STRFKR is a Portland indie act with half a dozen or so albums since 2008. I listened to their 1st 2 albums today and they’re terrific.

(2026) - PG Taylen Kinney to Kansas

Officially out here. Kinney named a top FIFTEEN and IU not among them. -
Dude can pathetically shill and debase himself all he wants. An 11-1 B1G team got in. Hate to break it to him and Herbstreit , but if they’re11-1 next year they’ll get in again.
