I agree with that. And I’m willing to bat around absolutely anybody because every great coach in the history of sports has at some point in their career not been viewed as great. The Bob Knight who got the IU job wouldn’t get it now. Beilein’s a HOFer and didn’t get a HM job until he was 51. Underwood’s a top 3 guy in the B1G and didn’t get 1 until he was 50. Bill Belichick straight up failed in Cleveland. Not saying some random dude in the MEAC is the right guy here, almost certainly not, just saying record and name recognition are not close to the sole criterion to find the Guy. That’s what makes this thought exercise fun.

Dude’s not human. And Tedeschi-Trucks is probably the best live act going right now that I’ve seen. Would recommend them to anyone regardless of taste. No frills. Stuff’s just thrown on stage, looks like band practice. Then they roll out and flat light the place on fire for a couple of hours. Everything you like about music. Amazing.

Yeah kind of tough to feel too bad for ol’ Nick. Not many have failed upward as impressively as that guy.
-
I think the issue there is probably NIL. But it’s really tough to picture a dude in his 60’s leaving the only gig he’s ever had, even if Randy Bennett is whippin’ his a$$ these days.
-
I think there’s certainly an argument for a guy like Pitino. But, man, it’s 1 thing to not care if you win the press conference, but it takes conviction to know you’re absolutely gonna lose it.
-
Ok, this may be the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen in a while. 80-something Tom Jones straight busting “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” while Blind Boys of Alabama are harmonizing and Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi are just hanging out taking it in. It might not be physically possible to put that much cool in 1 room ever again. Seriously, are you kidding me?

Have had an epiphany. Beard to IU as what? The answer is Associate Head Coach for…….Brad Stevens. And now it all makes sense. Brad isn’t just some coach/executive. He is, in fact, Keyser Soze. He’s able to simply bend men’s wills to his own, or so I keep hearing. And Beard is his Kobayashi. IU basketball is about to enter a golden age that John Wooden only dreamed of. Schools will hang banners for LOSING NC’s to this monolith. And, my friends, the dawn of a new age is only 2 short months away.

Not a thing wrong with it as long as it’s tempered by the idea that what we as fans want from someone dovetails with what they want for themselves. Example: Do I think Brad Stevens is coming to Indiana? Nope. But if he has some CBB coaching itch to scratch this is as good an opportunity as any so I’m willing to swallow this stuff until it’s inevitable end in the hope that I’m wrong. But the Ron Nored stuff needs to stop. That guy’s said a million times that he wants to be a NBA HC. Every step of his career has built to that and he’s gonna get a gig in the next cycle or 2. He’s not coming here to be the AHC. That’s fan wishcasting.

Waiting to run into a team that couldn’t control dibble penetration of any kind. Arkansas’s guards got literally anywhere they wanted.

2 things: 1) The 2nd half of the 1st paragraph here is really kind of the thing. The returning to college is the Lucy and the football piece that our Charlie Brown of a fanbase is just gonna continue to try to kick. 2) On Woody recommending Shrews, I’ll take things that never happened for a BILLION dollars, Alex.

Danny Ainge doing Danny Ainge things: Ainge: “ What’s the most under-valued asset on either of those rosters?” Personnel guy: “Well, they’ve got a 20yo 6’6” lottery pick PG who they’ve buried.” Ainge: “Oh yeah, that’ll do it.”

How badly must the Mavs org really, really hate Doncic?

There are very few things in sports that make me happier than watching Kelvin Sampson lose. My loathing for that guy knows no bounds.
-
That’s actually a really hard question. 6 months ago my 1st call, maybe my only call, would have been to Amir Abdur-Rahim. I think that guy would have had a HOF career and the game lost a Guy with his passing. Truthfully, I think there are a million guys with the coaching chops to succeed with the available resources here. That makes the miss with Woodson that much worse. It’s completely about the temperament to operate comfortably in this fishbowl. Example: IMO the 2 best pure coaches in CBB are Randy Bennett and John Becker, and in no universe would either of those guys make an ounce of sense for this gig. If I was Dolson my entire search profile would be tied to temperamental fit. Long way of saying, yeah, I don’t know.
-
He’d kill anywhere with resources. I’ll tell you what, I watched that dude all last year and every single thing that could have gone wrong for that team did and that guy did not flinch. He was completely accountable. The guy is just a grinder.

Mizzou laying an absolute beating on Miss St in Starkville. Yeah it was popular to use Dennis Gates as a piñata last year, but the dude’s a really good coach. This will give them road wins against Miss St and Florida, a home win against Ole Miss and a neutral court win over KU. God, I wish IU had that resume.

https://x.com/WorldWideWob/status/1885498167522689315 Insane. A 21yo asking a certified freak of nature and top 5 player on the planet, “Is that really the best you’ve got?” I swear. No idea how his career plays out but barring health stuff I’ll be shocked if he isn’t the best defender we’ve ever seen. Dude is singular.

https://x.com/HorsemenPod/status/1870455232465105131 Pat is that guy. Love it. Delicate ears might want to skip. -
100% and in a New York minute. I don’t need the next guy to be someone I want to have a beer with, but I refuse to be ashamed of them. Too many legit options to swallow that creep.

Interesting little factoid: the Celtics(19) and the Lakers(18) have combined for 37 NBA championships. The next most is Golden St with 5. Now, in the combined history of those 2 dominant franchises, anybody want to take a swing at who has coached the most games WITHOUT winning 1 of those 37 championships? That would be Brad Stevens with 636. Oh, and the HC before him, Doc Rivers, and the one following him, Joe Mazzulla(Udoka doesn’t count) both have rings. Am I saying that Stevens isn’t top shelf? Of course not. But he’s not K either, at least not yet, and if I have to listen to Stevens-as-Savior talk for the next 2 1/2 months I’m probably just gonna have to lightly troll it every now and then. Somebody’s gotta be that guy.

Well, he certainly knows how to play second fiddle at a football school, so there’s that. Not sure I’b be down otherwise.

https://247sports.com/college/indiana/article/hoosier-hysterics-podcast-fernando-mendoza-244958850/ HH’s podcast with Fernando Mendoza. Haven’t listened to these guys in a good while, but will absolutely listen to this one.
