Thats where I’m at. Morally, I don’t like the idea of an old man humiliated on the sideline, but they’ve made this bed (and that includes the administration). So whatever at this point. I just wish they had acted like the program we pretend we want to be a pulled the plug. This season is already circling the drain, who cares who the interim is.

Feel free to correct me, but that pretty clearly sounds like you referring to wanting him canned now as blood lust. And frankly, it’s not incorrect, but wanting him humiliated by the fans is no better in that regard. And worse by some measure.

So not wanting him on the floor or hearing the toxicity from the fans is “blood lust” to have him fired asap, but forced to be humiliated by the student section isn’t? I would argue anyone who wants him to suffer through AH on edge is operating much more in the name of “blood lust” than those wanting to cut the cord to avoid it. And for the record, he will deserve all the heat he gets.

I’d take anyone who wants to stay honestly. Assuming of course we land a competent coach. Rice, in particular, but really all of them have been misused in an unforgivable fashion. Rice would be a top-5 PG in a tempo offense that spreads out the court. Even Ballo who benefits from this system offensively, is pulled way too far out on defense and in the screen and roll game. I’m convinced there is a good team here and would love to see what a good coach could do with it.

On this we agree, but not because he’s a bad coach. Southern Indiana (and much of the state whether anyone wants to acknowledge it) is not some bastion of racial inclusion. And in many areas much worse than places I’ve lived in the Deep South. It’s sad, but it’s reality.

We are never getting into the headline optics of “IU legend and head coach Mike Woodson was contemplating retirement and was fired a day later.” That is never happening. The only way it is effective immediately is if Woody chooses to step down immediately. This was classic get in front of it behavior. Now, Dolson can’t give him the “retire now or fired” warning. That ship has sailed.

Having slept on it, I’ve come to the conclusion it had to be Woody’s camp that leaked all the nonsense. It paints IU into a corner from a professional standpoint. Making this seem like “woody’s choice” has made it essentially impossible for IU to spot fire him. It might be about contract leverage for the buyout, but I doubt that, Woody is owed more if he is fired for performance than he will get in a negotiation. He has no bargaining position. What he has, is the ability to craft a narrative that does maximum pain to the University and maximum protection of his fragile ego. That’s where we are. Woody is not leaving the sideline unless he chooses to. Period. That’s clear (and whether Dolson wanted to spot fire or not, now he can’t ) and it is due to Woody controlling the narrative. There is simply no reason for IU to allow or want some narrative such as what leaked about “contemplating” or “unlikely to coach next season.” FOH. Zero chance that came from the university.

I wonder if he is thinking he cant win a Natty at Gonzaga in the super conference and NIL world? That would be a ridiculous pull of a hire if it wasn’t BS.

If Woody comes out with a one big starting lineup on Saturday and plays a matchup zone I am going to pull my hair out lmao.
